A drospirenone-containing oral contraceptive improved bleeding pattern and personal satisfaction in 914 women from Jordan, Lebanon and Syria

Aim: We assessed bleeding pattern, tolerance and patient satisfaction of an oral contraceptive containing 3 mg drospirenone and 30 mcg ethinyl estradiol (DRSP/EE) under real-life conditions. Study Design: We performed a multicenter, prospective, 6-cycle, observational study in Canada, Europe and the Middle East. Detailed analyses of the three Middle East countries, Jordan, Lebanon andSyriawere presented here. The efficacy variables included an assessment of bleeding patterns, premenstrual symptoms of water retention and patient satisfaction, as determined by a visual analogue scale. Results: A total of 914 women were enrolled. The percentage of women with intermenstrual bleeding decreased from 37.4%, 48.7% and 32.2% at baseline to 9.7%, 6.1% and 10.9% at the end of cycle6 inJordan, Lebanon and Syria, respectively (creased sharply in all three countries (p Amenorrhea decreased significantly in Lebanon and Syria (p < 0.005). In addition, signs of water retention like abdominal bloating, breast tenderness and swelling of extremities decreased significantly over the course of 6 treatment cycles (p < 0.001). Patient satisfaction increased for all investigated items. Upon completion of the study, 82.7% of women answered “Yes” to continue treatment with this oral contraceptive. Conclusion: The oral contraceptive containing 3 mg drospirenone and 30 mcg ethinyl estradiol has beneficial effects on bleeding pattern, symptoms of water retention and patient satisfaction.

Alloying metals to form intermetallics has been proven effective in tuning the chemical properties of metal-based ***,intermetallic alloys can undergo structural and chemical transformations under reactive conditions,leading to changes in their catalytic *** and understanding these transformations are crucial for establishing relevant structureperformance relationships and for the rational design of alloy-based *** this work,we used CuZn alloy nanoparticles(NPs)as a model material system and employed in situ transmission electron microscopy(TEM)to investigate the structural and chemical changes of CuZn NPs under H_(2),O_(2)and their *** results show how CuZn NPs undergo sequential transformations in the gas mixture at elevated temperatures,starting with gradual leaching and segregation of Zn,followed by oxidation at the NP *** remaining copper at the core of particles can then engage in dynamic behavior,eventually freeing itself from the zinc oxide *** structural dynamics arises from an oscillatory phase transition between Cu and Cu_(2)O and is correlated with the catalytic water formation,as confirmed by in situ mass spectrometry(MS).Under pure H_(2)or O_(2)atmosphere,we observe different structural evolution pathways and final chemical states of CuZn NPs compared to those in the gas *** results clearly demonstrate that the chemical state of alloy NPs can vary considerably under reactive redox atmospheres,particularly for those containing elements with distinct redox properties,necessitating the use of in situ or detailed ex situ characterizations to gain relevant insights into the states of intermetallic alloy-based catalysts and structure-activity relationships.

In this paper,the determination of Thiram fungicide by a novel modified screen-printed carbon electrode(SPCE)fabricated modifying the working electrode(WE)with 2D-GO/WS2nanohybrid composites,is *** electron microscopy(SEM),Raman spectroscopy,and fluorescence analysis(PL)were used to reveal the morphological and microstructural characteristics of the 2D-GO/WS2 nanohybrids with different graphene oxide:tungsten disulphide(GO:WS_(2))*** characterization demonstrated that the 2D-WS2/GO nanohybrids having a GO:WS_(2)ratio=2:1 shows the highest electrocatalytic activity towards oxidation of *** developed sensor permits the quantification of Thiram in the linear range 0.083-0.33μM with a limit of detection(LOD)of 0.02μM,which is below the legal limits for this fungicide in drinking water or foods.

Thoracic Ganglioneuroma: A Rare Neural Tumor (Case Report and Literature Review)

Ganglioneuroma is an extremely rare tumor that is derived from neural crest. Many ganglioneuroma cases are detected incidentally unless they are large enough to cause compressive symptoms. We report an 18-year-old patient with posterior mediastinal ganglioneuroma which was abutting the descending aorta. The patient underwent successful resection by thoracoscopic approach and was followed up for one year with no complications. In summary, a detailed review with experts in both radiology and pathology is mandated to diagnose these tumors. Informed consent was obtained from the patient.

The systematic method for constructing Lewis representations is a method for representing chemical bonds between atoms in a molecule. It uses symbols to represent the valence electrons of the atoms involved in the bond. Using a number of rules in a defined order, it is often better suited to complicated cases than the Lewis representation of atoms. This method allows us to determine the formal charge and oxidation number of each atom in the edifice more efficiently than other methods.

Carbon graphite is a crystalline form of carbon consisting of layers of hexagonal carbon atoms arranged in a two-dimensional “graphene” structure. Graphene layers are stacked on top of each other, forming a three-dimensional structure with a high degree of anisotropy. The carbon atoms within each layer are linked together by strong covalent bonds, creating a strong, stable lattice structure. However, the layers themselves are held together by weak van der Waals forces, enabling them to slide easily over each other. The properties of carbon graphite are highly dependent on the orientation and alignment of the graphene layers. When the layers are aligned parallel to each other, the material exhibits high strength and stiffness along the alignment direction, but is weaker and more flexible in other directions. Carbon graphite is used in a variety of applications where high strength, rigidity and electrical conductivity are required. Some common applications include electrical contacts, electric motor brushes, and as a structural material in aerospace and defense applications. The aim of our work is to describe the structure of graphite, its physical and chemical properties and its applications.

Water is the most abundant liquid on the surface of the earth. It is a liquid whose properties are quite surprising, both as a pure liquid and as a solvent. Water is a very cohesive liquid: its melting and vaporization temperatures are very high for a liquid that is neither ionic nor metallic, and whose molar mass is low. Thus, water remains liquid at atmospheric pressure up to 100C while similar molecules such as H2S, H2Se, H2Te for example would give a vaporization temperature close to 80C. This cohesion is in fact ensured by hydrogen bonds between water molecules. This type of bonds between neighboring molecules, hydrogen bonds, is quite often found in chemistry [1] [2]. Any change in the state of aggregation of a substance occurs with the absorption or release of a certain amount of latent heat of transformation. Latent heat of fusion, vaporization or sublimation is the ratio of the energy supplied as heat to the mass of the substance that is melted, vaporized or sublimated. As a result of the reversibility of the processes, the fusion heat is equal to the heat released in the reverse process: crystallization and solidification heat. And likewise the heat of vaporization is equal to the heat of condensation. This equality of heat is often used to determine experimentally either of these quantities. There are two main measurement methods: 1) Direct measurement using the calorimeter, 2) Indirect measure based on the use of the VantHoff relationship. The objective of this work is to measure the latent heat of water vaporization and verify the compatibility of the experimental values with the values given by the tables using the indirect method.

This paper proposes a new nonlinear unknown input observer. The observer design approach utilizes the first order Taylor expansion. The observer gains are then obtained by a systematic method. In this paper, we added some improvements to this method. The developed approach also can enable observer design for a large class of differentiable nonlinear systems. The necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of the observer are given. A numerical example is given to illustrate the attractiveness and the simplicity of the new design procedure.

LMI solutions for H-two and H-infinity decentralized controllers applied to an aerothermic process

In this paper, we present a linear matrix inequality （LMI）-based solution to implement H-two and H- infinity decentralized robust control strategies. Appropriate parametrization of optimal H-two and H-infinity controllers is used. The general formulation of the decentralized control design leads to the optimal determination of both the state feedback gains and the observer gains of the decentralized controllers. This formulation is two folds： first, a centralized controller is obtained, and then, a simplified decentralized solution is derived by optimizing only the observer gains. The mathematical determination of these gains is formulated as an LMI optimization problem that can be easily solved using LMI solvers. As an experimental evaluation of these controllers, a real time application to an aerothermic process is carried out. A continuous-time model of the process obtained with a suitable direct continuous-time identification approach is elaborated.
