Cilia-assisted hydromagnetic pumping of biorheological couple stress fluids

A theoretical study is conducted for magnetohydrodynamic pumping of electroconductive couple stress physiological liquids(***)through a two-dimensional ciliated channel.A geometric model is employed for the cilia which are distributed at equal intervals and produce a whip-like motion under fluid interaction which obeys an elliptic trajectory.A metachronal wave is mobilized by the synchronous beating of cilia and the direction of wave propagation is parallel to the direction of fluid flow.A transverse static magnetic field is imposed transverse to the channel *** Stokes’couple stress(polar)rheological model is utilized to characterize the *** normalized two-dimensional conservation equations for mass,longitudinal and transverse momentum are reduced with lubrication approximations(long wavelength and low Reynolds number assumptions)and feature a fourth order linear derivative in axial velocity representing couple stress contribution.A coordinate transformation is employed to map the unsteady problem from the wave laboratory frame to a steady problem in the wave *** slip conditions are imposed at the channel *** emerging linearized boundary value problem is solved analytically and expressions presented for axial(longitudinal)velocity,volumetric flow rate,shear stress function and pressure *** flow is effectively controlled by three geometric parameters,viz cilia eccentricity parameter,wave number and cilia length and two physical parameters,namely magnetohydrodynamic(MHD)body force parameter and couple stress non-Newtonian *** solutions are numerically evaluated with MATLAB *** velocity is observed to be enhanced in the core region with greater wave number whereas it is suppressed markedly with increasing cilia length,couple stress and magnetic parameters,with significant flattening of profiles with the latter two *** pressure gradient is decreased with eccentricity parameter whereas it is ele

Landslide Hazard Zonation Mapping in Ghat Road Section of kolli Hills, India

Landslides are the most common natural disaster in hilly terrain which causes changes in landscape and damage to life and property. The main objective of the present study was to carry out landslide hazard zonation mapping on 1:50,000 scale along ghat road section of kolli hills using a Landslide Hazard Evaluation Factor(LHEF) rating scheme. The landslide hazard zonation map has been prepared by overlaying the terrain evaluation maps with facet map of the study area. The terrain evaluation maps include lithology, structure, slope morphometry, relative relief, land use and land cover and hydrogeological condition. The LHEF rating scheme and the Total Estimated Hazard(TEHD) were calculated as per the Bureau of Indian Standard(BIS) guidelines(IS: 14496(Part-2) 1998) for the purpose of preparation of Landslide Hazard Zonation(LHZ) map in mountainous terrains. The correction due to triggering factors such as seismicity, rainfall and anthropogenic activities were also incorporated with Total Estimated Hazard to get final corrected TEHD. The landslide hazard zonation map was classified as the high, moderate and low hazard zones along the ghat road section based on corrected TEHD.

In several countries,the ageing population contour focuses on high healthcare costs and overloaded health care *** health care monitoring system can be a potential alternative,especially in the COVID-19 pandemic situation to help mitigate such problems by encouraging healthcare to transition from hospital-centred services to self-care,mobile care and home *** this aspect,we propose a pervasive system to monitor the COVID’19 patient’s conditions within the hospital and outside by monitoring their medical and psychological *** facilitates better healthcare assistance,especially for COVID’19 patients and quarantined *** identies the patient’s medical and psychological condition based on the current context and activities using a fuzzy context-aware reasoning engine based *** reasoning engine makes decisions using linguistic rules based on inference mechanisms that support the patient condition *** rules are framed based on the fuzzy set attributes belong to different context *** fuzzy semantic rules are used to identify the relationship among the attributes,and the reasoning engine is used to ensure precise real-time context interpretation and current evaluation of the *** are measured using a fuzzy logic-based context reasoning system under *** results indicate the usefulness of monitoring the COVID’19 patients based on the current context.

Nephroprotective activity of Solanum xanthocarpum fruit extract against gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity and renal dysfunction in experimental rodents

Objective:To evaluate nephroprotective potential of Solarium xanthocarpum(***) fruit extract(SXE) against gentamicin(GM) induced nephrotoxicity) and renal dysfunction. Methods:Twenty-four Wistar rats were divided into four groups(n=6).Control rats that received normal saline(i.p.) and 0.5%carboxymethyl cellulose(p.o.) per day lor 8 *** was induced in rats by intraperitoneal administration of GM(100 mg/kg/d for 8 d) and were treated with SXE(200 and 400 mg/kg/d(p.o.) for 8 d).Plasma and urine urea and creatinine,kidney weight,urine output,blood urea nitrogen,renal enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants and lipid peroxidation was evaluated along with histopathological investigation in various experimental groupsof ***:It was observed that the GM treatment induced significant elevation(Pkidney weight,blood urea nitrogen, renal lipid peroxidation along with significant decrement(Pkg treatment to GM treated rats recorded significant decrement(up to Pkidney tissues too correlated with the biochemical ***:These finding powerfully supports that S,xanthocarpum fruit extract acts in the kidney as a potent scavenger of free radicals to prevent the toxic effects of GM both in the biochemical and histopathological parameters and thus validates its elhnomedicinal use.

Metallurgical analysis of a failed maraging steel shear screw used in the band separation system of a satellite launch vehicle

Maraging steels have excellent combination of strength and toughness and are extensively used for a variety of aerospace applications. In one such critical application, this steel was used to fabricate shear screws of a stage separation system in a satellite launch vehicle. During assembly preparations, one of the shear screws which connected the separation band and band end block has failed at the first thread. Microstructural analysis revealed that the crack originated from the root of the thread and propagated in an intergranular mode. The failure is attributed to combined effect of stress and corrosion leading to stress corrosion cracking.

The Slingshot interconnect designed by HPE/Cray is becoming more relevant in high-performance computing with its deployment on the upcoming exascale *** particular,it is the interconnect empowering the first exascale and highest-ranked supercomputer in the world,*** offers various features such as adaptive routing,congestion control,and isolated *** deployment of newer interconnects sparks interest related to performance,scalability,and any potential bottlenecks as they are critical elements contributing to the scalability across nodes on these *** this paper,we delve into the challenges the Slingshot interconnect poses with current state-of-the-art MPI(message passing interface)*** particular,we look at the scalability performance when using Slingshot across *** present a comprehensive evaluation using various MPI and communication libraries including Cray MPICH,Open-MPI+UCX,RCCL,and MVAPICH2 on CPUs and GPUs on the Spock system,an early access cluster deployed with Slingshot-10,AMD MI100 GPUs and AMD Epyc Rome CPUs to emulate the Frontier *** also evaluate preliminary CPU-based support of MPI libraries on the Slingshot-11 interconnect.

Analyzing driver's response to yellow indication subjected to dilemma incursion under mixed traffic condition

Under mixed traffic conditions prevailing on Indian roads,drivers show complex response when faced with yellow signal because lane assignment gets dynamic in *** present study analyzes the effect of surrounding vehicles on response of the drivers while facing dilemma at *** dilemma zone definitions hold true in case of homogeneous traffic mix,a statistical analysis is performed to check the consistency across the definitions under mixed traffic *** study shows a significant difference in percentage of red light running in comparison to homogeneous traffic as reported by various *** carrying out the research,study locations are chosen in such a way to reflect diversity in road geometry,traffic composition and signal *** results deduced in this study indicate a strong correlation between the driver's decision making choice and the effect of presence of surrounding vehicle at the onset of yellow *** effect of critical time analysis has been found out to be one of the parameters other than critical distance in categorizing driver's aggressiveness while facing the yellow *** the process of identifying the statistical significance of dilemma zone definitions,it has been found that under heterogeneous traffic condition,drivers behave differently as compared to homogenous traffic when it comes to dilemma *** is observed that the percentage of vehicles crossing the intersection when faced with dilemma by violating the red light is 11.6%according to dilemma zone definition I whereas the definition II has yielded about 10.8%violation covering different vehicle *** above violation figures derived based on the above definition is somewhat higher as compared to homogeneous traffic condition which is observed to be of the order of 5%-6%.

Prospective use of bacteriocinogenic Pediococcus pentosaceus as direct-fed microbial having methane reducing potential

Direct-fed microbials（DFM）, generally regarded as safe status, are successfully used in improving rumen ecology, gastro-intestinal health, feed efficiency, milk production and growth rate in ruminants. On the other hand, methanogenesis in rumen, which accounts for a significant loss of ruminant energy and increased greenhouse gas in environment, is of great concern, therefore, use of DFM for improving productivity without compromising the animal health and ecological sustainability is encouraged. The present study was conducted to investigate the methane reducing potential of bacteriocinogenic strain Pediococcus pentosaceus-34. Since, the culture showed no hemolysis on blood agar and DNase activity, hence, it was considered to be avirulent in nature, a prerequisite for any DFM. The culture also showed tolerance to pH 5.0 for 24 h with 0.5% organic acid mixture, whereas when given a shock for 2 h at different p H and organic acids concentrations, it showed growth at pH 3.0 and 4.0 with 0.1 and 1.0% organic acids, respectively, as having good animal probiotics attributes. The total gas production was significantly（P〈0.05） higher in live pedicoccal culture（LPC） and dead pedicoccal culture（DPC） both with wheat straw, when compared to the control. In sugarcane bagasse, gas production was significantly lower（P〈0.05） with LPC compared to the control and DPC both. Methane was reduced by the inclusion of LPC in sugarcane bagasse（0.07 mL CH4 mg–1 dry matter digestibility） with no effect on other rumen fermentation parameters. However, with wheat straw and LPC total gas, in vitro dry matter digestibility, total volatile fatty acids increased significantly but no reduction in methane production was observed in comparison to the control. Therefore, further research is warranted in this direction, if the bacteriocinogenic strains can be used as DFM for ruminants to improve the ruminant productivity.

Purification and concentration of gluconic acid from an integrated fermentation and membrane process using response surface optimized conditions

A response surface method was used to optimize the purification and concentration of gluconic acid from fermentation broth using an integrated membrane system. Gluconobacter oxydans was used for the bioconversion of the glucose in sugarcane juice to gluconic acid (concentration 45 g·L^-1) with a yield of 0.9 g·g^-1. The optimum operating conditions, such as trans-membrane pressure (TMP), pH, cross-flow rate (CFR) and initial gluconic acid concentration, were determined using response surface methodology. Five different types of polyamide nanofiltration membranes were screened and the best performing one was then used for downstream purification of gluconic acid in a flat sheet cross-flow membrane module. Under the optimum conditions (TMP=12 bar and CFR=400 L·h^-1), this membrane retained more than 85% of the unconverted glucose from the fermentation broth and had a gluconic acid permeation rate of 88% with a flux of 161 L·m^-2·h^-1. Using response surface methods to optimize this green nanofiltration process is an effective way of controlling the production of gluconic acid so that an efficient separation with high flux is obtained.
