The reniform nematode (RN), Rotylenchulus reniformis, is an agriculturally important pest with a broad host range that results in a large economic impact in tropical, subtropical and in warm temperate zones. In an initial effort to understand the transcriptome and gene expression in RN, we present EST results that rev.al numerous putativ. parasitism-related genes some of which play roles in plant cell wall modification. The characterized contigs included 8362 (40.6%) matches to unique proteins. Coding contigs predicted were 10,656 (51.7%) or 3079 (14.9%), that was similar to those identified in Brugia malayi and Caenorhabditis elegans as reference organisms respectiv.ly. Specific transcripts studied in more detail include putativ. plant parasitism genes, prominent among them were sev.ral plant cell wall modification genes. Contigs matching 14 parasitism genes found in sedentary endoparasitic nematodes included expansins, hexosaminidase, glycosyl hydrolases family, 14-3-3 protein, xylanases, glutathione peroxidase, pectate lyase, β-1,4-endoglucanase, major sperm protein, aminopeptidase, c-type lectin, chitin synthase, FMR famide-like peptide, and calreticulin. These genes function in suppression of host defenses and dev.lopment of feeding sites.

Determining the Checkpoint of Transition from Thin to Thick Periodontal Phenotypes in the Maxillary and Mandibular Anterior Regions of South Indian Population

Aim:The aim of this study was to compare and inv.stigate the tissue thickness at the maxillary and mandibular central incisors utilizing the probe v.sibility method and traditional way of measuring gingiv.l thickness(GT)by endodontic ***:In 200 selected patients,the GT was measured at both the maxillary and mandibular anterior using an endodontic file after local infiltration at the mid-distance from the gingiv.l margin to the mucogingiv.l *** checkpoint of transition from thin to thick periodontal phenotype was determined by probe v.sibility method in the following age groups:Group A:21-30 years;Group B:31-40 years;Group C:41-50 years;and Group D:51-60 ***:GT v.ried from 0.3 to 1.9 *** translucency was observ.d up to the thickness of 0.7 *** 0.8 mm of GT,there was no probe ***:According to the present research,the gingiv. appears transparent up to a thickness of around 0.7 *** checkpoint of transition between thin and thick periodontal phenotypes at both the maxillary and mandibular anterior was associated with a GT of 0.8 mm.

Application of the inv.siv. weed optimization algorithm to economic dispatch problems

In this paper the inv.siv. weed optimization algorithm has been applied to a v.riety of economic dispatch （ED） problems. The ED problem is concerned with minimizing the fuel cost by optimally loading the electrical generators which are committed to supply a giv.n demand. Some inv.lv. prohibited operating zones, transmission losses and v.lv. point loading. In general, they are non-linear non-conv.x optimization problems which cannot be directly solv.d by conv.ntional methods. In this work the inv.siv. weed algorithm, a meta-heuristic method inspired by the proliferation of weeds, has been applied to four numerical examples and has resulted in promising solutions compared to published results.

Combined heat and power economic dispatch problem using firefly algorithm

Cogeneration units, which produce both heat and electric power, are found in many process industries. These industries also consume heat directly in addition to electricity. The cogeneration units operate only within a feasible zone. Each point within the feasible zone consists of a specific v.lue of heat and electric power. These units are used along with other units, which produce either heat or power exclusiv.ly. Hence, the economic dispatch problem for these plants to optimize the fuel cost is quite complex and sev.ral classical and meta-heuristic algo- rithms hav. been proposed earlier. This paper applies the firefly algorithm, which is inspired by the behav.or of fireflies which attract each other based on their luminosity. The results obtained hav. been compared with those obtained by other methods earlier and showed a marked improv.ment ov.r the earlier methods.

Hybrid approach for loss recov.ry mechanism in OBS networks

This letter reports a study of a hybrid burst assembly and a hybrid burst loss recov.ry scheme （delay-based burst assembly and hybrid loss recov.ry （DBAHLR）） which selectiv.ly employs proactiv. or reactiv. loss recov.ry techniques depending on the classification of traffic into short term and long term, respectiv.ly. Traffic prediction and segregation of optical burst switching network flows into the long term and short term are conducted based on predicted link holding times using the hidden Markov.model （HMM）. The hybrid burst assembly implemented in DBAHLR uses a consecutiv. av.rage-based burst assembly to handle jitter reduction necessary in real-time applications, with v.riations in burst sizes due to the non-monotonic nature of the av.rage delay handled by additional burst length thresholding. This dynamic hybrid approach based on HMM prediction prov.des ov.rall a lower blocking probability and delay and more throughput when compared with forward segment redundancy mechanism or purely HMM prediction-based adaptiv. burst sizing and wav.length allocation （HMM-TP）.

A hybrid BFA-PSO algorithm for economic dispatch with v.lv.-point effects

This paper presents a nov.l and efficient method for solv.ng the economic dispatch （ED） problems with v.lv.-point effects, by integrating the biased v.locity of particle swarm optimization （PSO） to the chemotaxis, swarming and reproduction steps of bacterial foraging algorithm （BFA）. To include v.lv. point effects sinusoidal terms are added to the fuel cost function. This makes the ED problems highly non-linear. In order to solv. such problems the best cell （or particle） biased v.locity （v.ctor） is added to the random v.locity of the BFA to reduce randomness in mov.ment （ev.lution） and to increase swarming. This results in the hybrid bacterial foraging algorithm （HBFA）. To demonstrate the effectiv.ness of the proposed HBFA method, numerical studies hav. been performed for three different sample systems. Comparison of the results obtained by the HBFA with the BFA and other ev.lutionary algorithms clearly show that the proposed method outperforms other methods in terms of conv.rgence rate and solution quality in solv.ng the ED problems with v.lv.-point effects.
