Torsional Vibrations of Coated Hollow Poroelastic Spheres

Torsional vibrations of coated hollow poroelastic spheres are studied employing Biot’s theory of wave propagation in poroelastic solid. The dilatations of solid and liquid media are zero, therefore the frequency equation of torsional vibrations is same both for a permeable and an impermeable surface. The coated poroelastic sphere consists of an inner hollow poroelastic sphere bounded by and bonded to a sphere made of distinct poroelastic material. The inner sphere is designated as core and outer sphere as casing. Core and casing are bonded at the curved surfaces. The inner and outer boundaries of the coated hollow poroelastic sphere are free from stress and at the interface of core and casing the displacement and stresses are continuous. It is assumed that the each material of coated sphere is homogeneous and isotropic. The frequency equation of torsional vibrations of a coated poroelastic hollow sphere is obtained when the material of the core vanishes. Also a coated poroelastic solid sphere is obtained as the limiting case of the frequency equation of coated hollow poroelastic sphere when the inner radius of core approaches to zero. Non-dimensional frequency as a function of ratio of thickness of core to that of inner radius of core is determined and analyzed. It is observed that the frequency and dispersion increase with the increase of the thickness of the coating.

Macroporous poly [(chloromethyl) styrene-co-divinylbenzene] continuous rod was prepared by direct polymerization of the monomers in the presence of a porogenic diluent inside an empty chromatographic column. A new 'in-situ' technique was used to modify the synthesized polymer rod for a weak cation exchanger and it has been used successfully for the separation of biopolymers. It was found that the back pressure of the continuous rod column was much lower and its surface was proved to be modified well.

The separation efficiency of biopolymers with a short column in liquid chromatography has been investigated in this paper. It was found that the column length has slight effect on the resolution of biopolymers under gradient elution. The reasons have been explained by stoichiometric displacement model for retention of solute. The column 1.0 cm long was also used in the separation and purification of recombinant human granulocyte colony-simulating factor (rhG-CSF). It only took 40 min and the purity by one step was found to be almost 100%.

Most current seismic design includes the nonlinear response of a structure through a response reduction factor （R）. This allows the designer to use a linear elastic force-based approach while accounting for nonlinear behavior and deformation limits. In fact, the response reduction factor is used in modem seismic codes to scale down the elastic response of a structure. This study focuses on estimating the actual ＇R＇ value for engineered design/construction of reinforced concrete （RC） buildings in Kathmandu valley. The ductility and overstrength of representative RC buildings in Kathmandu are investigated. Nonlinear pushover analysis was performed on structural models in order to evaluate the seismic performance of buildings. Twelve representative engineered irregular buildings with a variety of characteristics located in the Kathmandu valley were selected and studied. Furthermore, the effects of overstrength on the ductility factor, beam column capacity ratio on the building ductility, and load path on the response reduction factor, are examined. Finally, the results are further analyzed and compared with different structural parameters of the buildings.

The nature of bonding in the title compound has been stUdied by using CASSCF andFOCI techniques. The ground state of IrC has been found to be 2△ arising primarilyfrom:.. 1σ2 2σ2 1π4 1δ3 3σ2 configuration, which forms a triple bond between Ir and C atoms (one σ;two π). The lowest quartet state is 4Φ state which has the configuration:... 1σ2 2σ2 1π4 1δ3 2π1 3σ2 andlies higher than the ground state by 1 .25eV. The molecular constants of the ground state calculatedat CASSCF level by using Morse's mode are: Re=1.6904A, De=4.86eV, We=1139cm-1, andB0=0.5219cm-1 comparable with the spectrum values (Re=1 .6858A, De=6.44 eV, We=1051cm-1and B0=0.5251 cm-1).

The possible excited state decomposition reactions (dehydrogensulfidation, dehydration, and dehydrogenation) of the four tautomers of monothioformic acid have been investigated by ab initio methods with 6-31G** basis sets at the CIS level. The activation energies of the four excited state reactions are 42.57, 42.49, 56.90, 47.73 kcal/mol, and are respectively lower than that of the ground states by 24.52, 24.98, 27.28, and 21.10 kcal/mol.

The lowest quartet state is (4)Sigma(-) State which has the configuration: ...1 sigma(2)2 sigma(2)1 pi(4)1 delta(4)3 sigma(1)2 pi(2) and lies higher than the ground state by 0.43eV.
