Evaluation of genetic diversity and conservation priorities for Egyptian chickens

In this study, 21 microsatellite markers were used to genotype 196 Egyptian local chickens obtained from Fayoumi (n = 35), Dandarawy (n = 30), Baladi (n = 29), sinai (n = 30), El-salam (n = 36), and Golden Montazah (n = 36) strains. The results were compared to two pure commercial chicken populations reared in Japan-White Leghorn (n = 42) and Rhode Island Red (n = 43). A total of 162 alleles were observed, with an average of 7.7 alleles per locus. The average expected heterozygosity for the Egyptian chickens was 0.595. The closest pairwise Nei’s genetic distance was recorded between sinai and Golden Montazah (0.038) and the smallest pairwise FsT value (0.006) was observed between Baladi and sinai. The most probable structure clustering of the eight studied populations was at K = 6. Baladi, sinai and Golden Montazah strains were clustered together forming admixed mosaic cluster. Dandarawy ranked firstly and contributed the most to aggregate genetic diversity based on two prioritization methods. The information resulting from this study may be used as an initial guide to design further investigations for development of sustainable genetic improvement and conservation programs for the Egyptian chicken genetic resources.

Background: Breast cancer is considered the commonest and the most fatal female cancer worldwide. There is to an urgent need for discovering recent therapies to identify patient prognosis and improve treatment strategies. Fork-head Box C2 (FOXC2) is a transcription factor which is a key regulator of cancer stem cells (CsC) properties and epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) e.g. cancer initiation, metastatic capacity, and resistance to chemotherapy. FOXC2 roles in CsCs properties and EMT regulation in breast cancer needs detailed studies. YKL-40 is known as chitinase-3-like-1 belongs to a family of mammalian proteins that have an amino acid sequence which is similar to the 18-glycosyl hydrolase bacterial chitinases group. Recent studies have found aberrant YKL-40 elevated expression in cancer of various organs, so it may be used as a recent prognostic biomarker for patients with breast cancer. Former researchers have assessed the expression of FOXC2 & YKL-40 separately in cancer patients and relations to prognosis of patients;however, no studies assessed them together in breast cancer patients and the previous results were inconclusive. Accordingly, our study aimed at evaluation of immunohistochemical expressions of FOXC2 & YKL-40 in carcinoma of the breast in a trial to clarify the relation among their expressions, clinicopathological parameters and recurrence of the disease after successive therapy and patients’ prognosis. Methods: we have evaluated expressions of FOXC2 & YKL-40 in sections from 50 paraffin blocks of carcinoma of the breast using immunohistochemistry. We followed up our patients for 3 years for assessment of recurrence of the disease after successive therapy and survival rates. We analyzed the relationship between their combined expression clinicopathological and prognostic parameters. Context: The prognostic significance of expression of V-Crk avian sarcoma virus CT10 oncogene homolog-like (CRKL) and Protein kinase CK2 β in endometroid carcinoma is not fully clarified. Aim: To assess the prognostic values and clinicopathological roles of CRKL and CK2 β expression in endometroid carcinoma by correlation their expression levels with clinicopathological parameters, response to therapy, and recurrence of the tumor and patients survival. settings: Faculty of Medicine, Zagazig University, and Mansoura University. Methods: CRKL and CK2 β expressions were evaluated in 50 paraffin blocks EC patients that were followed up for 5 years. The relationship between their level of expressions, clinicopathological criteria and prognosis of patients was analyzed. statistical analysis used: sPss 22.0 for windows (sPss Inc., Chicago, IL, UsA) and MedCalc windows (software bvba 13, Ostend, Belgium). Results: high expression of CRKL and CK was positively correlated with higher grade of the tumor (p = 0.004 and 0.006 respectively), presence of L.N metastases (p = 0.009 and 0.003 respectively), presence of distant metastases (p = 0.029 and 0.003 respectively) and advanced FIGO stage (p 0.001), poor response to therapy (p = 0.046 and 0.005 respectively), higher incidence of recurrence of the tumor after therapy (p = 0.004 and 0.048 respectively), higher incidence of cancer progression p = 0.018 and 0.044 respectively), poor PFs (p = 0.008 and 0.013 respectively), and Os rates

Determination of Phase Transformation for TC21 Ti-Alloy by Dilatometry Method

The α + β ? β phase transformation kinetics of TC21 Ti-alloy during continuous heating and cooling were studied using a dilatometric technique. Dilatometric heating curve exhibited that two characteristic reflection points can be observed with increasing the heating temperature. Ts referred to the initial transformation temperature of α + β → β and Tf referred to the final transformation temperature of α + β → β. Ts was reported at 720°C, whereas the corresponding Tf was obtained at 950°C. The initial and final transforming temperatures by the first derivative curve were reported at 730°C and 955°C, respectively, which are close to the values obtained in the dilatometric heating curve. Dilatometric cooling curve showed that the starting temperature of β → β + α phase transformation was 880°C;however, the corresponding finishing temperature was 670°C. The starting and finishing temperatures using the first derivative curve were obtained at 665°C and 885°C, respectively. The first derivative for the studied dilatometric heating and cooling curves showed that the starting and finishing temperatures of α + β ? β phase transformation were more accurate and objective. Results show the α + β → β transformation heating curve exhibits a typical s-shaped pattern.

Combined Rupture of Vaginal Vault and Unscarred Uterus and Neonatal Death Following Induction of Labor with Misoprostol

Introduction: Rupture of unscarred uterus (primary uterine rupture) is a rare peripartum complication often associated with catastrophic maternal and neonatal outcomes. Case presentation: A 27-year-old primigravid lady, previously healthy, at 40 weeks + 2 days presented to a midwife’s clinic for routine antenatal consultation. she was advised to have induction of labor. This was initiated with 2 tablets of Misoprostol (400 mcg) vaginally. Twelve hours later, and after remaining at full cervical dilation for 4 hours, she was referred to our maternity service for alleged failure to descend. On arrival, she was apprehensive, exhausted but hemodynamically stable. Pelvic exam disclosed a fully dilated cervix with the vertex at s + 1 and a caput reaching the introitus. No fetal heart rate could be elicited by the CTG monitor and this was verified by a bedside ultrasonography. Operative vaginal delivery was performed due to maternal exhaustion. This was complicated by transient shoulder dystocia. Manual revision of the birth canal and the uterine cavity disclosed a suspicion of left vaginal vault gapping together with a left fundal uterine rupture. Consequently, the patient was rushed to the operating room for an urgent exploratory laparotomy. The rupture sites were identified and repaired while a large broad ligament hematoma on the same side was explored and hemostasis secured with ipsilateral uterine artery ligation of the fundal and cervical branches. The postoperative course was smooth and the patient left the hospital on the 5th day postpartum. Conclusion: Cases of unscarred uterine rupture are limited. One of the most frequent risk factor is the injudicious use of Misoprostol for labor induction. sudden arrest of progress of labor or failure to descend might mask uterine rupture. We recommend that all birth attendants be familiar with the guidelines issued by FIGO, ACOG and other societies for the safe use of these potent uterotonics.

Glutamatergic hyperactivity is implicated migraine pathogenesis. Also, LY29355 8, an α amino 3 hydroxy 5 methyl 4 isox azolepropionic acid (AMPA)/kain ate (KA) receptor antagonist, is effective in preclinical models of migraine. We therefore tested LY293558 in acute migraine. We conducted a randomized, triple blind, parallel group, double d ummy, multicentre trial of 1.2 mg/kg intravenous (IV) LY293558, 6 mg subcutaneou s (sC) sumatriptan, or placebo in the treatment of acute migraine. The primary e fficacy variable was the headache response rate, i.e. headache score improvement from mod erate/severe at baseline to mild/none at 2 h. Of 45 enrolled patients , 44 patients (20M:24F; mean age ±.sD = 40 ±.9 years) completed the study. Res ponse rates were 69%for LY293558 (P = 0.017 vs. placebo), 86%for sumatriptan ( P s. placebo) and 25%for placebo. LY293558 and sumatriptan were superi or to placebo (P sons) on all other measures of improveme nt in pain and migraine associated symptoms. Fifteen percent of patients who too k LY293558 reported adverse events (AEs) (n = 2; one mild, one severe). Fifty t hree percent of patients who took sumatriptan (n = 8; seven mild, one moderate) and 31%of those who received placebo reported AEs (n = 5; four mild, one severe ). The efficacy and safety results of LY293558 in this small migraine proof of c oncept trial, together with supportive preclinical data, provide evidence for a potential role of nonvasoactive AMPA/KA antagonists in treating migraine. Larger trials are needed to further test the hypothesis.
