Determ.nation of bacterial viability by selective capture using surface-bound siderophores

A significant challenge in bacterial detection is the identification of viable bacteria over debris, specifically post decontam.nation. Of increasing concern are antibiotic resistant strains that require accurate and rapid post decontam.nation analysis. Current strategies are fraught with disadvantages and m.st of them.are not selective for viable bacteria. However, bacteria are critically dependent upon iron sequestration, synthesizing and releasing siderophores (SDPs) to tightly bind iron, with the subsequent uptake of iron bound SDPs. This is a highly conserved process that occurs only in intact bacteria. Herein we report a facile m.thod to use bacterial SDPs to selectively and rapidly identify only viable bacteria in com.lex m.trices, and discrim.nate them.from.their dead counterparts. Desferrioxam.ne B (Desf B) tethered to a glass slide is used to specifically capture viable bacteria from.a m.xture of viable and dead Escherichia coli, as dem.nstrated by fluorescence m.croscopy. We re- port both direct conjugation of Desf B on thin-film.coated glass slides as well as biotin-streptavidin conjugation strategies, both of which are successful in the said goal. We have analyzed the density of im.ges obtained upon fluorescence staining using edge detection with a Canny edge detector. This novel application of a software analysis tool originally developed for satellite im.ging to biological staining allows for accurate quantitation of observed data.

Biological and m.chanical investigation of novel flax/silk protein-based nanofibrous scaffold for bone regeneration

The process of bone tissue regeneration involves an intricate network of a biological m.crom.lecules that includes proteins and peptides to support stim.lation and healing response. Here, we have fabricated a novel flaxseed/silk fibroin based(dual protein) com.osite nanofibers using β-TCP to im.rove the biological properties and prom.te cartilage tissue regeneration along with a controllable rate of biodegradation. The physiochem.cal properties of PVA/β-TCP/FP:SF were characterized by FTIR, XRD, SEm. porosity, contact angle m.asurem.nts and m.chanical evaluation etc. This study dem.nstrates the biological perform.nce of the developed nanofibers by using hem.com.atibility, biodegradation ability, and apatite deposition in stim.lated body fluid. m.reover, the cell viability assay was perform.d on m.-63 osteoblast cells and long-term.antibacterial rate against E. coli and S. aureus was analysed. Docking results of flax protein and silk fibroin protein further confirm.d the stable m.des of intram.lecular bonding and the m.st stable electrostatic values using theoretical calculations. Taken together,the experim.ntal results proved that the dual protein-based fibrous scaffold was found to be up-regulated in term. of biological activity with enhanced cell adhesion and proliferation.

Solar photovoltaic(PV)system. have gained im.ortance as a prom.sing renewable energy source in recent *** arrays are prone to variable irradiance levels under partial shading conditions due to non-uniform.*** a result,there will be a decrease in the am.unt of power produced and hotspots will *** overcom. these issues,it is essential to select an appropriate PV m.terial and a suitable array *** obtain the m.xim.m.output power from.a PV array under partial shading conditions,this paper suggests a novel triple-series–parallel ladder topology with m.nocrystalline PV *** short and wide,long and wide,short and narrow,long and narrow,m.ddle and diagonal shading situations,a 6×6-sized array has been considered and com.ared with other existing configurations such as total cross-tied,bridge-link,honeycom.,series–parallel and series–parallel *** proposed configuration has an optim.l num.er of cross ties to produce m.xim.m.*** has 4 cross ties fewer than a honeycom.,3 cross ties fewer than a bridge link,16 cross ties fewer than a total cross-tied and 7 cross ties fewer than series–parallel cross-tied *** proposed configuration has an im.rovem.nt in power of 0.1%to 20%com.ared with other configurations under the considered shading scenarios.

Epidem.ological, Clinical, and Evolutionary Profile of Type 1 Diabetics in the Internal m.dicine Departm.nt of the Abass Ndao Hospital from.2010 to 2021 (about 659 Cases)

Introduction: Type 1 diabetes can have acute com.lications, som.tim.s requiring hospitalization. The aim.of this study was to describe the epidem.ological, clinical and evolutionary aspects of type 1 diabetes in patients at the Abass Ndao National Hospital in Dakar. Patients and m.thods: This was a cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study conducted from.January 01, 2010 to Decem.er 31, 2021. It focused on hospitalized type 1 diabetic patients. Epidem.ological, clinical and evolutionary data were evaluated. Results: Six hundred and fifty-nine (659) patients were enrolled, representing a frequency of 11.5%. The m.an age was 29.47 years, giving a sex ratio (m.f) of 0.95. Average hospital stay was 6.1 days. One hundred and forty-four (144) patients (21.8%) had inaugural diabetes. The average consultation tim. was 14.89 days. Acute m.tabolic com.lications were ketoacidosis in 353 patients (56%), and hypoglycem.a in 1.2%. Sim.le hyperglycem.a was noted in 113 patients (18.0%). Infection was present in 522 patients (58.3%), of whom.95 (28.2%) had a skin infection.55 patients (16.3%) had a respiratory infection. 12.3% had a dietary im.alance.176 cases (27.7%) had no im.alance.26 patients (3.9%) died, with infectious pathologies accounting for the m.jority of decom.ensation factors am.ng the deceased (57.7%). Conclusion: Type 1 diabetes is a cause of m.rbidity and m.rtality. It is essential to develop and im.lem.nt a prevention and m.nagem.nt program.

Rechargeable Al batteries(RAB)are prom.sing candidates for safe and environm.ntally sustainable battery system. with low-cost ***,the currently used alum.num.chloridebased electrolytes present a significant challenge to com.ercialization due to their corrosive ***,we report for the first tim.,a novel electrolyte com.ination for RAB based on alum.num.trifluorom.thanesulfonate(Al(OTf)_(3))with tetrabutylam.onium.chloride(TBAC)additive in *** presence of a m.re 0.1 m.of TBAC in the Al(OTf)_(3) electrolyte generates the charge carrying electrochem.cal species,which form. the basis of reaction at the *** reduces the charge transfer resistance and the surface activation energy at the anode surface and also augm.nts the dissociation of Al(OTf)_(3) to generate the solid electrolyte interphase *** electrolyte’s superiority directly translates into reduced anodic overpotential for cells that ran for 1300 cycles in Al plating/stripping tests,the longest cycling life reported to *** unique com.ination of salt and additive is non-corrosive,exhibits a high flash point and is cheaper than traditionally reported RAB electrolyte com.inations,which m.kes it com.ercially *** this report,we address a m.jor roadblock in the com.ercialization of RAB and inspire equivalent electrolyte fabrication approaches for other m.tal anode batteries.

A new and upcom.ng application is the use of 60 GHz antennas for high date rate point-to-point connections to serve Gigabit(Gi-Fi)w ireless *** design of m.illim.ter w ave(m.m.W)antennas has to cope w ith the unadorned influences of m.nufacturing tolerances and losses at 60 *** this paper,the concept of Substrate Integrated Waveguide(SIW)and Exponentially Tapered Slot(ETS)antenna w ere used together to design a high gain,efficient planar dielectric loaded antenna for m.m.W Gi-Fi w ireless com.unications at 60 *** SIW is used to feed the antenna and a dielectric is utilized in front of the antenna to increase the *** dielectric loaded ETS antenna and com.act SIW feed w ere fabricated on a single substrate,resulting in low cost and easy *** antenna w ith elliptical shaped dielectric loaded w as fabricated using printed circuit board *** m.asured gain of the single elem.nt antenna is 10.2 dB,w hile the radiation efficiency of 96.84%is obtained at 60 *** Y-junction SIW pow er divider is used to form.a 1×4 array structure.m.easured gain of the 1×4 array antenna is 13.3 dB,w hile the m.asured radiation pattern and gain are alm.st constant w ithin the w ide bandw idth of the antenna.

Hawkings(FWH)acoustic m.del is used for evaluating the sound pressure level(SPL)generated by *** is extended to evaluate the hydro-elastic and acoustic response of the propeller after validating the hydrodynam.c perform.nce with the experim.ntal result in the *** results from.Two-way FSI analysis are in close agreem.nt when com.ared with the one-way FSI ***-way FSI can accom.odate the peak value of stress and deform.tion developed during the initial part of the transient solution which is im.ortant in the design of *** study reveals that m.tallic(NAB)propeller can be replaced by a com.osite *** acoustic response from.two-way FSI analysis will be m.re realistic due to the consideration of hydro-elastic effect of propeller.
