Nepeta cataria L., commonly known as catmint or catnip, belongs to the family “Lamiaceae” and is indigenous to Europe and Asia. The essential oil of this species is known for the richness and diversity of nepetalactones (NPL) which are used as mosquito/insect repellents in perfumery and cosmetic industries. Reports on Indian catmint germplasm are very meager and warrants exploration of its commercial potential as a natural, non-toxic source of insect repellents. With this objective, commercial open-pollinated seeds of catmint collected from its native, temperate habitat in Himalayas were introduced in the tropical plains. Subsequent to adaptation to a new zone we were able to isolate nineteen individual plants based on plant growth. Hydrodistillation of the fresh herb yielded essential oil in the range of 0.01% to 0.2%. Gas Chromatography (GC) and GC-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analyses of the oil revealed the dominance of monoterpene hydrocarbon, namely, 4aα,7α,7aα NPL (1) isomer (84%). The other two isomers of nepetalactone, 4aα,7α,7aβ NPL (2) and 4aα,7β,7aα NPL (3) were also present, although in very less amounts (1.0% and 1.6%, respectively). Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the top 10 causes of death worldwide. India is still the highest TB burden country. There is a scarcity of data on TB knowledge from Rajasthan state of India. Objective: The objective of this study was to estimate the prevalence of knowledge about TB and services of TB control programme and to determine its correlates among rural population of Jaipur, Rajasthan. Methods: Cross-sectional community based study was carried out at Model Rural Health Research Unit, Jaipur, a unit of Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. Results: Study reports the result from 1993 adult participants from 10 villages of 2 sub-districts of district Jaipur. About 88.9% of studied participants knew that TB is an infectious disease and it spreads from TB patient to healthy person in close contact. Only 22.3% of participants knew “DOTS is the treatment for TB”. While, only 58.9% knew “sputum is used for diagnosis of TB” at health centers. Scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and backward classes social groups knew less than the mainstream “General” social group. The observed difference was statistically significant (p 0.05). Logistic regression analysis estimated the relative contribution to knowledge status. Conclusion: The knowledge of study participants on transmission of tuberculosis was similar to knowledge of population in country wide study. They poorly knew sputum is used for diagnosing tuberculosis disease;socio-demographic inequity exists in this knowledge too. People from older age groups, underprivileged social groups and minority need extra educational activities.

Tuberculosis is one among top 10 causes of deaths worldwide. Access to effective diagnosis by every TB patient is one among five missions of Global Plan. Active case finding among vulnerable groups has been the key focus area of National Strategic Plan to control TB in India 2017-25. This cross-sectional study was carried out to find out the additional open cases of TB through active screening of general & rural population in selected villages of Jaipur, the capital district in Rajasthan state of India. An active screening team of trained staff visited each house-hold in selected study villages for interviewing the head of house-hold or other adult member available at the time of visit. Family members of age ≥ 15 years were screened for complain of chronic cough of duration 2 weeks or more with study questionnaire. Presumptive cases found at screening were referred for seeking medical consultations from nearest designated microscopy centre. The referred patients were followed up on telephone up to five times for results of medical consultancies. Laboratory technicians of catchment DMCs were also followed up for verification of results. Total 19,306 individuals were covered. Study included 52.8% male, 69.3% ≥ 15 years age, and 99.3% Hindu participants. There were total 153 presumptive TB patients. Out of these, total 10 cases were confirmed as TB. The yield of detection was 0.51 cases/1000 population screened. Effect of Nano-Filler on the Properties of Polymer Nanocomposite Films of PEO/PAN Complexed with NaPF6

Free standing transparent PNC (Polymer nanocomposite) films based on PEO/PAN + NaPF6 with different concentration (wt./wt.) filler of nano sized (TiO2) is synthesized by using standard solution cast technique. HRXRD (High resolution X-ray diffraction) and FESEM (Field emission scanning electron microscopy) have been performed to see the structural and microstructural behavior of the PNC films. The microscopic interaction among polymer, salt and nano-ceramic filler has been analyzed by FTIR (Fourier transformed infra-red) spectroscopy. The reduction of ion pair formation in polymeric separator is clearly observed on addition of nano-filler in the polymer salt complex film. Electrical (ionic/electronic) conductivity has been estimated (~ 10-4 S/cm) optimized PNC films concentration of nanofiller (15 Wt.%). The estimated value of electrical conductivity is well corroborated by FTIR study. Thermal analysis has been done with thermo gravimetry analysis to find out thermal stability of PNC films. Transport properties associated due to majority mobile carriers ions and only negligible participation from electrons was observed through transport number analysis. The band gap (i. e. direct as well as indirect) decreases on the addition of nano-filler observed from the optical analysis. The estimated result of the prepared PNC films are at par with desired value for the device application.

Cryptococcosis is the third most commonly occurring invasive fungal disease in solid organ transplant recipients(SOT).It is caused by encapsulated yeast,Cryptococcus species,predominantly Cryptococcus neoformans and Cryptococcus *** kidney transplant recipients are at the lowest risk of cryptococcosis when compared to other solid organ transplant recipients such as lung,liver or heart,still this opportunistic infection causes significant morbidity and mortality in this subset of *** rates with cryptococcosis range from 10%-25%,while it can be as high as 50%in SOT recipients with central nervous system *** main aim of diagnosis is to find out if there is any involvement of the central nervous system in disseminated disease or whether there is only localized pulmonary involvement as it has implications for both prognostication and *** of cryptococcal antigen(CrAg)in cerebrospinal fluid or plasma is a highly recommended test as it is more sensitive and specific than India ink and fungal *** CrAg lateral flow assay is the single point of care test that can rapidly detect cryptococcal polysaccharide *** of cryptococcosis is challenging in kidney transplant *** from the reduction or optimization of immunosuppression,lipid formulations of amphotericin B are preferred as induction antifungal *** and maintenance are done with fluconazole;carefully monitoring its interactions with calcineurin *** review further discusses in depth the evolving developments in the epidemiology,pathogenesis,diagnostic assays,and management approach of cryptococcosis in kidney transplant recipients.
