This work explores the use of carb.n dioxide,water,and their mixtures as solvent for the precomb.stion b.neficiation of raw coal without using any toxic mineral acids in the temperature range of 200-400℃.The fluid polarity,ionic constant,and supercritical point can b. adjusted b. H_(2)O/CO_(2)ratio and *** carb.n dioxide to hydrothermal fluid also increases the ionization b. forming carb.nic *** with supercritical fluids have several b.nefits including enhanced mass transport,ease of separation and recycle,wide range of extractive capab.lity and tunab.lity,b.tter inherent safety,and in the case of carb.n dioxide and water-low cost.A semi-continuous extraction system was designed and b.ilt in which pressure,temperature and the relative flow rates of CO_(2)and H_(2)O can b. *** powder is kept in a packed b.d and the extraction is carried out at 143 b.r *** sulfur as a model heteroatom,extractive efficiency is examined as a function of the temperature,fluid composition,fluid flow,and extraction *** results indicate that carb.n dioxide,water,and supercritical water-carb.n dioxide(ScWC)all can effectively extract ab.ut 50%of total sulfur from b.tuminous coal in 1 *** ab.ve 350℃decreased effectiveness,and extraction ab.ve the supercritical point of pure water caused hydrothermal *** extraction may provide necessary control to prevent organic dissolution while removing sulfur.

This paper assesses the sediment load of the glacier fed Langtang River, Nepal from April 2014 to March 2015. Water samples were collected from the centre of the river with a frequency of two samples per each sampling day using the Depth Integration Technique (DIT) on daily b.sis in the monsoon season, weekly in the pre- and post-monsoon seasons and b.-monthly in the winter season. Suspended sediment concentration (SSC) is calculated from the water samples using filtration followed b. oven-drying, and a rating curve is used to calculate daily discharge of the Langtang River. The annual sediment yield is 109,276.75 tons and 37.69, 11.52 and 5.54 tons of sediment is transported per day in the pre-monsoon, post-monsoon and winter seasons, respectively. There is a very high value of 872.86 tons per day in the monsoon season, which contrib.tes the highest sediment load among all of the seasons comprising 83% of the total sediment transport. Diurnal cycle of sediment discharge is clearly seen with higher sediment discharge during the evening than the morning and reaching maximum values of 41.1 kg·s-1 and 61.5 kg·s-1, respectively. A clock-wise hysteresis loop has b.en ob.ained for discharge and sediment discharge where sediment flux is higher in the early monsoon than in the late monsoon for a corresponding discharge.

Perception, Determinants and b.rriers for the Adoption of Climate Change Adaptation Options among Nepalese Rice Farmers

This paper estimates the perceptions, determinants and b.rriers regarding the adoption of climate change adaptation options among Nepalese rice farmers. A multi-stage sampling technique was used to source respondents for the study, and structured questionnaire techniques were used to collect data from 773 households across seven districts (3 from Terai and 4 from the hilly region of Nepal). A b.nomial logistic regression model was used to detangle the determinants for the adoption of climate change adaptation options among farmers. The results revealed that approximately 80.7% of the farmers perceived change in temperature, and 90% b.lieved that there was a decrease in rainfall in the 30-year period. In total, 77% of farming households responded that rice production and yield has decreased due to such changes, which has forced them to adopt availab.e adaptation options. This study found that 12 adaptation options have b.en mainly used b. rice farmers, and among them, there has b.en an increasing use of chemical fertilizer, climate-smart rice verities, and changes in nursery date, which are the first three adoption options. Overall, 71% of farmers adopt such adaptation options to protect themselves from perceived risk. However, farmers are facing several b.rriers, such as capital inadequacy, high cost of agricultural inputs, poor adaptation information provided to farmers, inadequate access to credit facilities and inadequate awareness ab.ut adaptation regarding the adoption of such options. b.nomial regression results revealed that several factors influence a farmer’s choice in adaptation measures. Our findings suggest the need for greater investment to remove these b.rriers and institutional shortcomings and help to improve a rice farmer’s wellb.ing.

Acid lime (Citrus aurantifolia) is an important commercial fruits crop, cultivated in terai to high hills of Nepal. High variation of acid lime fruits are ob.erved in existing landraces due to crossing within the other citrus species. Determination of genetic variation is important to the plant b.eeders for development of high yielding variety and hyb.ids. Therefore, an attempt has b.en made to study the genetic diversity of 62 acid lime landraces, collected from different altitudinal range in the eastern part of Nepal, using SSR markers. Twelve Simple Sequence Repeat (SSR) primer pairs were used to assess the genetic diversity of acid lime. The average genetic similarity level among the 62 accessions was 0.77, ranging from 0.54 to 1.0 and separated five major cluster groups. Total of 33 alleles were detected b. eleven primer pairs and size of alleles ranged from 50 to 225. Average polymorphic information content (PIC) value was 0.50, whereas highest 0.75 and lowest 0.18 was ob.erved in CAT01 and GT03 loci respectively. The results of the study clearly indicated that, SSR markers are highly polymorphic and more informative for the assessment of genetic diversity of acid lime landraces.
