Analyzing Effect of Demand Rate on Safety of Systems with Periodic Proof-tests

Quantitative safety assessment of safety systems plays an important role in decision making at all stages of system lifecycle, i.e., design, deployment and phase out. Most safety assessment methods consider only system parameters, such as configuration, hazard rate, coverage, repair rate, etc. along with periodic proof-tests （or inspection）. Not considering demand rate will give a pessimistic safety estimate for an application with low demand rate such as nuclear power plants, chemical plants, etc. In this paper, a basic model of IEC 61508 is used. The basic model is extended to incorporate process demand and behavior of electronic- and/or computer-based system following diagnosis or proof-test. A new safety index, probability of failure on actual demand （PFAD） based on extended model and demand rate is proposed. Periodic proof-test makes the model semi-Markovian, so a piece-wise continuous time Markov chain （CTMC） based method is used to derive mean state probabilities of elementary or aggregated state. Method to determine probability of failure on demand （PFD）（IEC 61508） and PFAD based on these state probabilities are described. In example, safety indices of PFD and PFAD are compared.

Background:The incidence of prostate cancer is increasing worldwide.A significant proportion of patients developmetastatic disease and are initially prescribed androgen deprivation therapy(ADT).However,subsequent sequences of treatments in real-world settings that may improve overall survival remain an area of active *** and methods:Data were collected from 384 patients presenting with de novo metastatic prostate cancer from 2011 to 2015 at a tertiary cancer *** were categorized into surviving(n=232)and deceased(n=152)groups at the end of 3 *** sequence pattern mining techniques(Generalized Sequential Pattern Mining and Sequential Pattern Discovery using Equivalence Classes)were applied to determine the exact order of the most frequent sets of treatments in each ***:Degarelix,as the initial form of ADT,was uniquely in the surviving *** sequence of ADT followed by abiraterone and docetaxel was uniquely associated with a higher 3-year overall *** followed by fosfestrol was found to have a unique niche among surviving patients with a long duration of response to the initial *** who received chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy and those who received radiotherapy followed by chemotherapy were found more frequently in the deceased ***:We identified unique treatment sequences among surviving and deceased patients at the end of 3 *** should be the preferred formof *** who received ADT followed by abiraterone and chemotherapy showed better *** requiring palliative radiation and chemotherapy in any sequence were significantlymore frequent in the deceased group,identifying the need to offer such patients the most efficacious agents and to target them in clinical trial design.

Background： The fragile landscapes of the Himalayan region are highly susceptible to natural hazards, and there is ongoing concern about current and potential climate change impacts. This study provides background information on India＇s Western Himalayas and reviews evidence of warming as well as variability in precipitation and extreme ***： Understanding and anticipating the impacts of climate change on Himalayan forest ecosystems and the services they provide to people are critical. Efforts to develop and implement effective policies and management strategies for climate change mitigation and adaptation requires particular new research initiatives. The various studies initiated and conducted in the region are compiled ***： Several new initiatives taken by the Himalayan Forest Research Institute in Shimla are described. This includes new permanent observational field studies, some with mapped trees, in high altitude transitional zones for continuous monitoring of vegetation response. We have also presented new strategies for mitigating potential climate change effects in Himalayan forest ***： Assessment of the ecological and genetic diversity of the Himalayan conifers is required to evaluate potential responses to changing climatic conditions. Conservation strategies for the important temperate medicinal plants need to be developed. The impact of climate change on insects and pathogens in the Himalayas also need to be assessed. Coordinated efforts are necessary to develop effective strategies for adaptation and mitigation.

Objective:To isolate,partially purify and evaluate the cytotoxic and antitumor activity of a serine protease from the chosen Indian earthworm Pheretima ***:Whole animal extract was prepared and purified its protein constituents by size and charge based chromatographic separation techniques using Sephadex G-50 and DEAE-Cellulose resin *** molecular weight of the protein isolate was determined and analyzed for its cytotoxic property against Vero cells in different dilutions(1:20 and 1:40)and anti-tumor activity by MTT assay(a colorimetric assay)using breast cancer cell line MCF-7,with tamoxifen as ***:One of the protein constituents after purification was characterized as serine protease by Caseinolytic plate diffusion *** molecular weight of this purified isolate was determined,by SDS-PAGE analysis with standard protein ladder,as of 15 *** performed tests suggested that the 15kDa fraction has potent cytotoxic activity and satisfactory antitumor activity as well in ***:Exact molecular mechanism of the cytotoxic and antitumor activities is yet to be explored and currently we are working on ultra-purification and biophysical characterization of this *** investigation into the mechanism(s)of cytotoxic and antitumor activities at molecular level would be useful in treatment of various classes of cancer and viral infections in future.

Optimization of cylindrical roller bearings(CRBs)has been performed using a robust *** ensures that the changes in the objective function,even in the case of variations in design variables during manufacturing,have a minimum possible value and do not exceed the upper limit of a desired range of percentage ***,it checks the feasibility of design outcome in presence of manufacturing tolerances in design *** any rolling element bearing,a long life indicates a satisfactory *** the present study,the dynamic load carrying capacity C,which relates to fatigue life,has been optimized using the robust *** roller bearings,boundary dimensions(i.e.,bearing outer diameter,bore diameter and width)are ***,the performance is mainly affected by the internal dimensions and not the bearing boundary dimensions mentioned *** spite of this,besides internal dimensions and their tolerances,the tolerances in boundary dimensions have also been taken into consideration for the robust *** problem has been solved with the elitist non-dominating sorting genetic algorithm(NSGA-II).Finally,for the visualization and to ensure manufacturability of CRB using obtained values,radial dimensions drawing of one of the optimized CRB has been *** check the robustness of obtained design after optimization,a sensitivity analysis has also been carried out to find out how much the variation in the objective function will be in case of variation in optimized value of design *** bearings have been found to have improved life as compared with standard ones.
