We reinvestigate the collective effects of the retardation as well as the bending on the Coulomb excitation cross sections and also on the B（E2） strengths of some neutron-rich isotopes using the intermediate energy Coulomb excitation theory. It is found that the B（E2） strengths extracted from the experimental Coulomb excitation cross section data get suppressed approximately by 6%. Furthermore, the obtained B（E2） strengths in the energy range 30-100 MeV/A are found to be in better agreement with the corresponding values known from other sources, than those obtained by using the recoil-corrected relativistic Coulomb excitation theory.

Diabetes mellitus(DM)and obesity are interrelated in a complex manner,and their coexistence predisposes patients to a plethora of medical *** surgery has evolved as a promising therapeutic option for both *** is recommended that patients,particularly those of Asian origin,maintain a lower body mass index threshold in the presence of uncontrolled ***,several comorbidities often accompany these chronic diseases and need to be addressed for successful surgical *** Roux-en-Y gastric bypass(RYGB)and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy(LSG)are the most commonly used bariatric procedures *** bariatric benefits of RYGB and LSG are similar,but emerging evidence indicates that RYGB is more effective than LSG in improving glycemic control and induces higher rates of long-term DM *** scoring systems have been formulated that are utilized to predict the chances of remission.A glycemic target of glycated hemoglobin<7%is a reasonable goal before ***,pulmonary,gastrointestinal,hepatic,renal,endocrine,nutritional,and psychological optimization of surgical candidates improves perioperative and long-term *** guidelines for preoperative care of individuals with obesity have been formulated,but very few specifically focus on the concerns arising from the presence of concomitant *** is hoped that this statement will lead to the standardization of presurgical management of individuals with DM undergoing metabolic surgery.

Deterioration of Early Holocene coral reef due to sea level rise along west coast of India:Benthic foraminiferal testimony

A total of 103 surface sediment samples collected from the water depth range of 15-3300 m along Vijaydurg-Karwar stretch of central west coast of India were analyzed for foraminiferal content. Relict benthic foraminiferal assemblage was noted within 50--135 m water depth. The relict benthic foraminiferal assemblage that includes Amphistegina, Operculina and Alveolinella in sediment samples within the water depth of 85-- 135 m indicates presence of coral reef at this depth during Early Holocene. The presence of barnacle fouling on Relict foraminifera at 60--90 m confirms the paleo-shoreline. The shallow depth zone is characterized by presence of agglutinated relict foraminifera. The agglutinated forms indicate freshwater influx, which eventually increased the sea level and subsequently deteriorated the paleo-coral reef.

Predictive materials synthesis is the primary bottleneck in realizing functional and quantum *** for synthesis of promising materials are currently identified by time-consuming trial and error and there are no known predictive schemes to design synthesis parameters for *** use offline reinforcement learning(RL)to predict optimal synthesis schedules,i.e.,a time-sequence of reaction conditions like temperatures and concentrations,for the synthesis of semiconducting monolayer MoS2 using chemical vapor *** RL agent,trained on 10,000 computational synthesis simulations,learned threshold temperatures and chemical potentials for onset of chemical reactions and predicted previously unknown synthesis schedules that produce well-sulfidized crystalline,phase-pure *** model can be extended to multi-task objectives such as predicting profiles for synthesis of complex structures including multi-phase heterostructures and can predict long-time behavior of reacting systems,far beyond the domain of molecular dynamics simulations,making these predictions directly relevant to experimental synthesis.

Recent advances in scientific understanding of high-temperature materials processing using novel experimental methodologies have shed light on the complex role of surface and interface phenomena. New in-situ studies on molten metal/solid ceramic interactions using a unique experimental complex at the Foundry Research Institute, Krakow, have revealed a number of unusual observations in materials processing at high temperatures. We present some such unusual observations and their explanation with reference to liquid metal processing of Al, Ni, and Ti, and their alloys in contact with oxide ceramics. In particular, we focus on the following aspects: primary oxidation of Al from residual water vapor or oxygen, capillary purification to remove surface oxide, substrate protection by CVD carbon, roughening due to spinel whisker formation, inclusions in castings due to mechanical detachment, floatation due to buoyancy forces, and segregation due to directional solidifciation, modification of the solid surface morphology by metal vapor ahead of the liquid, and the complication due to multi-component alloys melted in crucibles made from complex oxide-based ceramics. In the case of Ti, rapid reactions with oxides result in undesirable volumetric changes that create difficulty in casting high-quality Ti parts, particularly by investment casting. Nanoscale (e.g., colloidal) coatings based on Y2O3 protect crucibles and hold ladles against such attack. Practical insights and recommendations for materials processing emerging from the fundamental studies on high-temperature interfacial phenomena have been described.

AIM: To evaluate the outcomes of Ahmed glaucoma valve(AGV) implantation surgery for refractory ***: This one-armed historical cohort study was conducted in 2011. Refractory glaucoma was defined as eyes with an intraocular pressure(IOP) greater than21 mm Hg with maximally tolerated glaucoma medications, failed surgeries, or both. For all eyes with refractory glaucoma that underwent AGV implantation,data were collected on IOP, the best corrected visual acuity(BCVA) and glaucoma medications preoperatively and 4, 6, 12, 24 and 56 wk postoperatively. Logarithm values of IOP were calculated and compared. RESULTS: The study group was comprised of 30patients(30 eyes, 16 males and 14 females) with refractory glaucoma. Mean preoperative IOP was 39.3 ±13.8 mm Hg. Postoperative mean IOP was 15.7±7.1 mm Hg,19.6 ±12.8 mm Hg and 13.9 ±14.2 mm Hg at 12, 24 and56 wk respectively. BCVA was ≥6/60 in 11 eyes preoperatively, and five eyes had BCVA ≥6/60 at 56 wk postoperatively. Preoperatively, more than four medications were used to treat glaucoma in 21 eyes. At12 wk postoperatively, no medications were required to control IOP in 20 eyes. At 56 wk postoperatively, at least one medication was required to control IOP in 10 *** the entire follow up period, four eyes were treated with yttrium aluminium garnet(YAG) laser and 14 eyes required a second surgery. The AGV was removed in four ***: AGV implantation reduced IOP and the number of medications required to control refractory glaucoma. However, there was a higher risk of decreased vision. Long-term follow up and prompt intervention are recommended.

How will Benthic Foraminifera Respond to Warming and Changes in Productivity ?: A Laboratory Culture Study on Cymbaloporetta plana

Anthropogenic activities are likely to cause global warming. Global warming will affect marine productivityand thus food availability for marine organisms. Both the seawater temperature and food availability affect benthicforaminifera, the most abundant marine calcareous microorganisms. Therefore, a laboratory culture experiment wasconducted on Cymbaloporetta plana to understand the coupled effect of temperature(25°C, 27°C, 30°C) and food(102±5,203±9, 305±14, 407±18, 508±23 diatom cells). At all temperatures, growth increased with increase in food. The specimenssubjected to 27°C temperature attained the maximum growth and those subjected to 25°C were the smallest. All specimensfed with 508±23 cells reproduced, 0 irrespective of temperature. Of all the specimens without food, 40% at 27°C and 20% at25°C reproduced, whereas specimens subjected to 30°C did not reproduce. The 100% rate of reproduction at 27°C suggeststhat it is the optimum temperature for growth and reproduction. All the specimens at 30°C and without additional food,died, whereas at 25°C and 27°C, the mortality rate was 80% and 60%, respectively. The limited growth and reproductionwith decreasing food clearly indicates that food availability also controls the growth and reproduction of shallow waterbenthic foraminifer C. plana. Therefore, warming coupled with decreasing productivity is likely to severely affect thegrowth and abundance of shallow water benthic foraminifera.

Projected changes in weather parameters, mainly temperature and rainfall, have already started to show their effect on agricultural production. To cope with the changing scenarios, adoption of appropriate management strategies is of paramount importance. A study was undertaken to evaluate the most appropriate combination of sowing date and phosphorus fertilization level for peanut crops grown in sandy loam soil in a subhumid region of eastern India. Field experiments were conducted during the summer seasons of 2012 and 2013 on peanut crops at the farm of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. The DSSAT v4.5 CROPGRO-Peanut model was used to predict the phenology, growth, and yield of peanut crop under combinations of four sowing dates and four phosphorus fertilization levels. The model was calibrated with a 2012 dataset of growth, phenology, and yield parameters for estimating the genetic coefficients of cultivar TMV-2 and was validated with a 2013 dataset of the same parameters. Simulations of pod yield and other yield parameters using the calibrated model were found to be quite accurate. The model was able to reasonably simulate pod yield and final biomass with low normalized root mean square error (RMSE_n), low absolute root mean square error (RMSE_a) and high coefficient of determination (R^2> 0.7) over a wide range of sowing dates and different phosphorus fertilization levels sensitivity analysis indicated that sowing from the second week of January to the end of February with 30–50 kg P_2O_5 ha^(-1)would give the highest pod yield.
