severe acute pancreatitis often leads to pancreatic and peripancreatic collections but,rarely,it can lead to collections at sites remote from the *** male patients presented with abdominal pain and inguinoscrotal *** were initially misdiagnosed with obstructed inguinal hernia,epididymo-orchitis and hydrocele,***,their diagnosis of acute pancreatitis was revealed on laparotomy in one patient and on computed tomography(CT)in the remaining two *** these cases had extensive peripancreatic necrosis and paracolic collections tracking along the psoas muscle,downwards towards the *** collections were initially managed by percutaneous drainage and saline irrigation as a part of the‘step-up’*** of these patients required open necrosectomy,while all required incision and drainage of inguinoscrotal *** the patients were discharged in satisfactory *** swelling is unusual as a first presentation of acute pancreatitis.A high index of suspicion,with careful study of patient’s history and examination along with CT,may provide an accurate *** drainage may be required to control sepsis and also provide an egress route for intra-abdominal collections.

Yarsagumba(Ophiocordyceps sinensis), an endemic species to the Himalayas and Tibetan Plateau, is one of the most valuable medicinal mushrooms in the world. In Nepal, it is distributed largely in isolated patches of alpine grasslands of 3,000-5,000 m elevation. Although it is reported from 27 northernmost districts of Nepal, the local distribution pattern of this species is largely ***, the collection system and local management regime of this species are not well documented. We conducted a field survey at Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve(DHR) among the different stakeholders in January-June 2012 to assess collection sites, patterns and trends and to understand the management regime. We estimated that about 75 kg of Yarsagumba is collected every year from DHR and the amount has been declining since 2008. To manage the resource, locals have initiated regulating the collection by issuing permits, taxing to the collectors, and monitoring the activities of harvesters with the help of park authorities. The revenue generated at local level from the permits has been used for community developmental activities.

The gut microbiome plays a key role in the pathogenesis and disease activity of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).While research has focused on the bacterial microbiome,recent studies have shifted towards host genetics and host-fungal *** mycobiota is a vital component of the gastrointestinal microbial community and plays a significant role in immune *** fungi,Candida species,particularly Candida albicans(***),have been extensively studied due to their dual role as gut commensals and invasive *** findings indicate that various strains of *** exhibit consid-erable differences in virulence factors,impacting IBD's *** fungal dysbiosis and antifungal mucosal immunity may be associated to IBD,especially Crohn's disease(CD).This article discusses intestinal fungal dysbiosis and antifungal immunity in healthy individuals and CD *** discusses factors influencing the mycobiome's role in IBD pathogenesis and highlights significant contributions from the scientific community aimed at enhancing understanding of the mycobiome and encouraging further research and targeted intervention studies on specific fungal *** article also provided insights into a recent study by Wu et al in the World Journal of Gastroenterology regarding the role of the gut microbiota in the pathogenesis of CD.

Densely populated region of Ganga Plain is facing aquifer vulnerability through waterborne pollutants and groundwater stress due to indiscriminate abstraction,causing environmental and socio-economic *** address long-term groundwater resilience,it is crucial to understand aquifer heterogeneity and connectivity,groundwater recharge sources,effects of groundwater abstraction *** this con-text,present study aims to understand factors responsible for vertical and spatial variability of groundwater chemistry and to identify groundwater recharge sources in an intensively exploited agrarian region of the Ganga *** of chemometric,statistical,and isotopic analysis categorises the alluvial aquifer into zone 1(G1;ground surface to 100 m)and zone 2(G2;>100 m-210 m).The group G1 samples are characterized by a wide variation in hydrochemical species,noted with pockets of F-and NO3-rich groundwater,and fresh to more evolved water types,while group G2 groundwater is characterized by a sharp increase in freshwater types and limited variation in their isotopic and hydrochemical *** G1 groundwater chemistry is governed by soil mineralogy,local anthropogenic inputs(sO42-,Cl-,and NO3-),and manifested by multiple recharge sources(local precipitation,river,canal water,pond).The G2 group is dominated by geogenic processes and mainly recharged by the local *** signatures confirm more evolved water type for group G1 in northwestern region,while fresh-water type covers the rest of the study *** rich groundwater is attributed to sodic water under alkaline conditions and enrichedδ18O values emphasizing role of evaporation in F-mobilization from micas and amphiboles abundant in the *** findings provide insight into potential groundwater vulnerability towards inorganic contaminants,and ground water recharge *** outcome of this study will help to develop aquifer resilience towards indiscriminate groundwater extrac

For the purpose of improving the strength of this dissimilarjoint, the present study was carried out to investigate the improvement in intermetallic layer by using a third material foil between the laying edges of the friction stir welded and hybrid welded AI6061-T6/AZ31 alloy plates. The difference in microstructural and mechanical characteristics of friction stir welded and hybrid welded AI6061-TO/AZ31 joint was compared. Hybrid butt- welding of aluminum alloy plate to a magnesium alloy plate was successfully achieved with Ni foil as filler material, while defect-free laser-friction stir welding （FsW） hybrid welding was achieved by using a laser power of 2 kW. Transverse tensile strength of the joint reached about 66% of the Mg base metal tensile strength in the case of hybrid welding with Ni foil and showed higher value than that of the friction stir welded joint with and without the third material foil. This may be due to the presence of less brittle Ni-based intermetallic phases instead of Al12Mg17.

Optimization study of a Coanda Ejector

The Coanda effect has long been employed in the aerospace applications to improve the performances of various devices. This effect is the ability of a flow to follow a curved contour without separation and has well been utilized in ejectors where a high speed jet of fluid emerges from a nozzle in the ejector body, follows a curved surface and drags the secondary flow into the ejector. In Coanda ejectors, the secondary flow is dragged in the ejector due to the primary flow momentum. The transfer of momentum from the primary flow to the secondary flow takes place through turbulent mixing and viscous effects. The secondary flow is then dragged by turbulent shear force of the ejector while being mixed with the primary flow by the persistence of a large turbulent intensity throughout the ejector. The performance of a Coanda ejector is studied mainly based on how well it drags the secondary flow and the amount of mixing between the two flows at the ejector exit. The aim of the present study is to investigate the influence of various geometric parameters and pressure ratios on the Coanda ejector performance. The effect of various factors, such as, the pressure ratio, primary nozzle and ejector configurations on the system performance has been evaluated based on a performance parameter defined elsewhere. The performance of the Coanda ejector strongly depends on the primary nozzle configuration and the pressure ratio. The mixing layer growth plays a major role in optimizing the performance of the Coanda ejector as it decides the ratio of secondary mass flow rate to primary mass flow rate and the mixing length.

N-doped mesoporous alumina for adsorption of carbon dioxide

N-doped mesoporous alumina has been synthesized using chitosan as the biopolymer template. The adsorbent has been thoroughly investigated for the adsorption of CO2 from a simulated flue gas stream （15% CO2 balanced with N2） and compared with commercially available mesoporous alumina procured from sAsOL, Germany. CO2 adsorption was studied under different conditions of pre- treatment and adsorption temperature, inlet CO2 concentration and in the presence of oxygen and moisture. The adsorption capacity was determined to be 29.4 nag CO2/g of adsorbent at 55℃. This value was observed to be 4 times higher in comparison to that of commercial mesoporous alumina at a temperature of 55℃. Basicity of alumina surface coupled with the presence of nitrogen in template in synthesized sample is responsible for this enhanced CO2 adsorption. Adsorption capacity for CO2 was retained in the presence of oxygen; however moisture had a deteriorating effect on the adsorption capacity reducing it to nearly half the value.
