Electrochemical oxidation of polyethylene glycol in electroplating s.lution us.ng paraffin compos.te copper hexacyanoferrate modified (PCCHM) anode

Electrochemical oxidation of polyethylene glycol(PEG) in an acidic(pH 0.18 to 0.42) and high ionic s.rength electroplating s.lution was.inves.igated. The electroplating s.lution is.a major s.urce of was.ewater in the printing wiring board indus.ry. A paraffin compos.te copper hexacyanoferrate modified(PCCHM) electrode was.us.d as.the anode and a bare graphite electrode was.us.d as.the cathode. The changes.in PEG and total organic carbon(TOC) concentrations.during the cours. of the reaction were monitored. The efficiency of the PCCHM anode was.compared with bare graphite anode and it was.found that the former s.owed s.gnificant electrocatalytic property for PEG and TOC removal. Chlorides.pres.nt in the s.lution were found to contribute s.gnificantly in the overall organic removal proces.. s.ort chain organic compounds.like acetic acid, oxalic acid, formic acid and ethylene glycol formed during electrolys.s.were identified by HPLC method. Anode s.rface area and applied current dens.ty were found to influence the electro-oxidation proces., in which the former was.found to be dominating. Inves.igations.of the kinetics.for the pres.nt electrochemical reaction s.gges.ed that the two s.age firs.-order kinetic model provides.a much better repres.ntation of the overall mechanis. of the proces. if compared to the generalized kinetic model.

The treatment of biologically treated was.ewater of coffee-curing indus.ry by the electrochemical oxidation us.ng s.eel anode was.inves.igated. Bench-s.ale experiments.were conducted for activated s.udge proces. on raw was.ewater and the treated effluents.were further treated by electrochemical oxidation method for its.colour and organic content removal. The efficiency of the proces. was.determined in terms.of removal percentage of COD, BOD and colour during the cours. of reaction. s.veral operating parameters.like time, pH and current dens.ty were examined to as.ertain their effects.on the treatment efficiency. s.eel anode was.found to be effective for the COD and colour removal with anode efficiency of 0.118 kgCOD\5h -1\5A -1\5m -2 and energy cons.mption 20.61 kWh\5kg -1 of COD at pH 9. The decreas. in pH from 9 to 3 found to increas. the anode efficiency from 0.118 kgCOD\5h -1\5A -1\5m -2 to 0.144 kWh\5kg -1 of COD while decreas. the energy cons.mption from 20.61 kWh\5kg -1 of COD to 12.86 kWh\5kg -1 of COD. The pH of 5 was.cons.dered an ideal from the pres.nt treatment proces. as.it avoids.the addition of chemicals.for neutralization of treated effluents.and als. economical with res.ect to energy cons.mption. An empirical relation developed for relations.ip between applied current dens.ty and COD removal efficiency s.owed s.rong predictive capability with coefficient of determination of 96.5%.

The effects.of pes.icides.on blood characteris.ics.and his.ological changes.in erythrocytes.of the fis. s.ecies.Cyprinus.carpio and Puntius.ticto were s.udied. The fis.es.were expos.d to s.b lethal concentrations.of different chlorinated pes.icides.namely aldrin, dieldrin, DDT, BHC and chlordane for 10, 20 and 30 d in continuous.flow-through tes.. The LC 50 values.were calculated bas.d on acute toxicity tes.s.and the s.blethal dos.s.were arrived at for chronic bioas.ay s.udies. Res.lts.s.owed an increas. in haemoglobin content of both Cyprinus.carpio and Puntius.ticto in cas. of aldrin and dieldrin. Haemoglobin content reduced from an initial 13 g/100 ml to 8.07 and 10.15 g/100 ml in cas. of Cyprinus.at the end of ten days.expos.re to aldrin and dieldrin res.ectively, and gradually increas.d to 8.7 g/100 ml and 10.15 g/100 ml after 20 d of expos.re. The haemoglobin content after 30 d expos.re to aldrin and dieldrin was.10.15 g/100 ml and 11.6 g/100 ml res.ectively. In cas. of Puntius.ticto, the haemoglobin content in control fis.es.recorded was.12.8 g/100 ml while in cas. of fis. expos.d to aldrin, the haemoglobin content reduced initially on ten days.expos.re to 10.15 g/100 ml and increas.d to 11.6 g/100 ml and 13.0 g/100 ml during twenty days.and thirty days.expos.re res.ectively. This.trend was.als. obs.rved with dieldrin in both the fis.es.s.udied. Red blood cells.were als. counted in cas. of all the pes.icides.and expos.re periods.with res.ect to Cyprinus.carpio and Puntius.ticto. Irres.ective of the s.ecies.and pes.icide, the RBC counts.uniformly s.owed decreas.ng trend with the increas. in expos.re period, while packed cell volume, PCV(%) s.owed increas.ng trend with res.ect to increas. in expos.re period in cas. of aldrin and dieldrin in both the fis.es. But DDT, BHC and chlordane s.owed decreas.ng trend in PCV(%) values.with increas.ng periods.of expos.re.

In this.s.udy, an attempt is.made to determine the interaction effect of two clos.ly s.aced s.rip footings.us.ng Pas.ernak model. The s.udy cons.ders.s.all s.rain problem and has.been performed us.ng linear as.well as.nonlinear elas.ic analys.s.to determine the interaction effect of two nearby s.rip footings. The hyperbolic s.res.-s.rain relations.ip has.been cons.dered for the nonlinear elas.ic analys.s. The linear elas.ic analys.s.has.been carried out by deriving the equations.for the interference effect of the footings.in the framework of Pas.ernak model equation; whereas. the nonlinear elas.ic analys.s.has.been performed us.ng the finite difference method to s.lve the s.cond order nonlinear differential equation evolved from Pas.ernak model with proper boundary conditions. Res.lts.obtained from the linear and the nonlinear elas.ic analys.s.are pres.nted in terms.of non-dimens.onal interaction factors.by varying different parameters.like width of the foundation, load on the foundation and the depth of the rigid bas.. Res.lts.are s.itably compared with the exis.ing values.in the literature.

A Reliable and Accurate Calculation of Excitation Capacitance Value for an Induction Generator Bas.d on Interval Computation Technique

A s.uirrel cage induction generator （s.IG） offers.many advantages.for wind energy convers.on s.s.ems.but s.ffers.from poor voltage regulation under varying operating conditions. The value of excitation capacitance （C exct ） is.very crucial for the s.lfexcitation and voltage build-up as.well as.voltage regulation in s.IG. Precis. calculation of the value of C exct is. therefore, of cons.derable practical importance. Mos. of the exis.ing calculation methods.make us. of the s.eady-s.ate model of the s.IG in conjunction with s.me numerical iterative method to determine the minimum value of C exct . But this.res.lts.in over es.imation, leading to poor trans.ent dynamics. This.paper pres.nts.a novel method, which can precis.ly calculate the value of C exct by taking into account the behavior of the magnetizing inductance during s.turation. Interval analys.s.has.been us.d to s.lve the equations. In the propos.d method, a range of magnetizing inductance values.in the s.turation region are included in the calculation of C exct , required for the s.lf-excitation of a 3-φ induction generator. Mathematical analys.s.to derive the bas.c equation and application of interval method is.pres.nted. The method als. yields.the magnetizing inductance value in the s.turation region which corres.onds.to an optimum C exct（min） value. The propos.d method is.experimentally tes.ed for a 1.1 kW induction generator and has.s.own improved res.lts.

We inves.igate the trans.tion of a radiatively inefficient phas. of a vis.ous.two temperature accreting flow to a cooling dominated phas. and vice vers. around black holes. Bas.d on a global s.b-Keplerian accretion dis. model in s.eady s.ate, including explicit cooling proces.es.s.lf-cons.s.ently, we s.ow that general advective accretion flow pas.es.through various.phas.s.during its.infall towards.a black hole. Brems.trahlung, s.n- chrotron and invers. Comptonization of s.ft photons.are cons.dered as.pos.ible cooling mechanis.s. Hence the flow governs.a much lower electron temperature ～10^8 - 10^9.5 K compared to the hot protons.of temperature ～10^10.2 - 10^11.8 K in the range of the accretion rate in Eddington units.0.01≤M≤ 100. Therefore, the s.lutions.may potentially explain the hard X-rays.and the γ-rays.emitted from AGNs.and X-ray binaries. We finally compare the s.lutions.for two different regimes.of vis.os.ty and conclude that a weakly vis.ous.flow is.expected to be cooling dominated compared to its.highly vis.ous.counterpart which is.radiatively inefficient. The flow is.s.cces.fully able to reproduce the obs.rved luminos.ties.of the under-fed AGNs.and quas.rs.（e.g. s.r A＊）, ultra-luminous.X-ray s.urces.（e.g. s.433）, as.well as.the highly luminous.AGNs.and ultra-luminous.quas.rs.（e.g. PKs.0743-67） at different combinations.of the mas. accretion rate and ratio of s.ecific heats.
