Objective:Aerva lanata (Linn) Juss ex Schult,family Amaranthaceae,is a common wayside weed.The herb is accepted by the Ayurvedic Formulary of India.This study was undertaken to establish morphoanatomic and physiochemical standards of A.lanata.Methods:Leaf constants and high-performance thin layer chromatography fingerprint profiles of A.lanata were performed.Results and conclusion:The physico-chemical,morphologic,and histologic parameters presented in this paper may be proposed as standards to establish the authenticity of A.lanata and help differentiate it from other species such as Aerva tomentosa.

Endovascular Embolization of Pseudoaneurysms Complicating Pancreatitis Using Microcoils: Case Series

Purpose: To determine whether endovascular embolization of pseudoaneurysms complicating pancreatitis with microcoils was associated with better therapeutic outcome. Materials and Method: The prospective clinical study was carried out in the Department of Interventional Radiology for a period of 2 years extending from May 2010 upto August 2012 on 16 male patients in the age group of about 30 - 55 years, with each one of them having vascular complications as a sequel to pancreatitis, after obtaining well informed written consent from each one of them. Results: The outcome of the procedure was judged by the following parameters—a) Restoration of the blood pressure of the patient;b) Cessation of the hemetemesis and malena;c) Reduction in abdominal pain and discomfort and d) Overall improvement in the general condition of the patient. Each of the patients had been on follow up for at least 6 months, except 2 of them, with no new complaints in any of them. The procedure related mortality was none. Conclusion: Vascular complications of pancreatitis need immediate and accurate diagnosis and prompt treatment. Micro coil embolisation, is a minimally invasive technique which helps to exclude the pseudoaneurysm from the circulation and thus reduces the scope for massive life threatening internal hemorrhage, and is a better alternative to surgery.

Metal matrix composites (MMCs) are gaining widespread recognition in numerous technological fields owing to its superior mechanical properties when compared with conventional metals/alloys. The aluminium based hybrid composites are increasingly being used in the transport, aerospace, marine, automobile and mineral processing industries, owing to the improved strength, stiffness and wear resistance properties. In the present research work, the composites were prepared using the liquid metallurgy technique, in which 2 - 10 weight percentage of Al2O3 particulates and 1 weight percentage of Graphite were dispersed in the base Al6061 alloy. The Casted hybrid composites were subjected to machining process to prepare the specimens according to ASTM standards. Then, the prepared specimens are subjected for assessing the Microstructure followed by its Mechanical behaviors such as, Hardness, Tensile strength, Compressive strength respectively. The microstructure analysis confirms that homogenous distribution of Al2O3 and Gr in the Al6061 matrix alloy and there was a momentous enhancement in decisive tensile strength, compressive strength and hardness properties of the hybrid composite. However, a substantial increase in the compressive strength was noticed in graphite reinforced composites as the graphite content was increased and there was a significant diminution in hardness coupled with monotonic increases in the ductility. Further, the ultimate tensile strength and compressive strength of the composite was noticed;thus the outcome of the study will provide explicit rationalizations for these observable facts. Therefore, the proposed way out in the study can provide ample of approaches to minimize the existing problem by employing this newer hybrid composites.

An obligatory sunlight requirement for photosynthesis has exposed cyanobacteria to different quantity and quality of light. Cyanobacteria can exhibit efficient photosynthesis over broad region(450 to 650 nm) of solar spectrum with the help of brilliantly coloured pigment proteins called phycobiliproteins(PBPs). Besides light-harvesting, PBPs are found to involve in several life sustaining phenomena including photoprotection in cyanobacteria. The unique spectral features(like strong absorbance and fluorescence), proteineous nature and, some imperative properties like hepato-protective, antioxidants, anti-inflammatory and anti-aging activity of PBPs enable their use in food, cosmetics, pharmaceutical and biomedical industries. PBPs have been also noted to show beneficial effect in therapeutics of some disease like Alzheimer and cancer. Such large range of applications increases the demand of PBPs in commodity market. Therefore, the large-scale and coast effective production of PBPs is the real need of time. To fulfil this need, many researchers have been working to find the potential producer of PBPs for the production and purification of PBPs. Results of these efforts have caused the inventions of some novel techniques like mixotrophic and heterotrophic strategies for production and aqueous two phase separation for purification purpose. Overall, the present review summarises the recent findings and identifies gaps in the field of production, purification and applications of this biological and economically important proteins.
