BACKGROUND:A number of definitions have been used for delayed gastric emptying(DGE) after pancreatoduodenectomy and the reported rates varied *** International Study Group of Pancreatic Surgery(ISGPS) definition is the current standard but it is not used *** this comprehensive review,we aimed to determine the acceptance rate of ISGPS definition of DGE,the incidence of DGE after pancreatoduodenectomy and the effect of various technical modifications on its *** SOURCE:We searched PubM ed for studies regarding DGE after pancreatoduodenectomy that were published from 1 January 1980 to 1 July 2015 and extracted data on DGE definition,DGE rates and comparison of DGE rates among different technical modifications from all of the relevant ***:Out of 435 search results,178 were selected for data *** ISGPS definition was used in 80% of the studies published since 2010 and the average rates of DGE and clinically relevant DGE were 27.7%(range:0-100%;median:18.7%) and 14.3%(range:1.8%-58.2%;median:13.6%),*** preservation or retrocolic reconstruction were not associated with increased DGE *** pyloric dilatation,Braun’s entero-enterostomy and Billroth Ⅱ reconstruction were associated with significantly lower DGE rates,pyloric ring resection appears to be most promising with favorable results in 7 out of 10 ***:ISGPS definition of DGE has been used in majority of studies published after *** relevant DGE rates remain high at 14.3% despite a number of proposed surgical *** ring resection seems to offer the most promising solution to reduce the occurrence of DGE.

A Hybrid Offline-Online Approach to Adaptive Downlink Resource Allocation Over LTE

Radio resource management mechanisms in current and future wireless networks is expected to face an enormous challenge due to the ever increasing demand for bandwidth and latency sensitive applications on mobile devices. This is because an optimal resource allocation scheme which attempts to multiplex the available bandwidth in order to maximize Quality of service(QoS), will pose an exponential computational burden at eNodeB. In order to minimize such computational overhead, this work proposes a hybrid offline-online resource allocation strategy which effectively allocates all the available resources among flows such that their QoS requirements are satisfied. The flows are firstly classified into priority buckets based on real-time criticality factors. During the offline phase, the scheduler attempts to maintain the system load within a pre-specified safe threshold value by selecting an appropriate number of buckets. This offline selection procedure makes use of supervisory control theory of discrete event systems to synthesize an offline scheduler. Next, we have devised an online resource allocation strategy which runs on top of the offline policy and attempts to minimize the impact of the inherent variability in wireless networks. Simulation results show that the proposed scheduling framework is able to provide satisfactory QoS to all end users in most practical scenarios.

Influence of cohesion on California bearing ratio of clay-gravel mixtures

An understanding of the behavior of cohesive sediment is required to solve various engineering problems such as scour around bridge elements, mitigation of soil erosion, pavement design, river bed degradation,stable channel design. Pavement foundation designers principally use the California bearing ratio(CBR)to describe the subgrade and subbase materials and their strength. Several laboratory experiments were done to study the variation in the CBR of cohesive mixtures comprised of clay-gravel mixtures. Nine different clay-gravel mixtures were used in which the clay content varies from 10% to 50% by *** variation of the CBR with clay percentage, moisture content, and undrained shear strength parameters was studied. The CBR value reduces with the increase in the moisture content and clay fraction in the mixtures and increases with an increase in the dry density of the mixture under unsoaked conditions. The CBR also increases with the increase of the angle of internal friction of clay-gravel mixtures.A functional relation has been identified to estimate the CBR of clay-gravel mixtures. Using multiple linear regression analysis(MLRA), a relation is proposed to estimate the CBR of clay-gravel mixtures under unsoaked conditions. A statistical analysis was done to judge the behavior of the pertinent variables on the CBR. The proposed relation predicts the CBR of clay-gravel mixtures very well. Artificial neural network(ANN) analysis using R programming was also done to determine the effects of the pertinent variables on the CBR. ANN methodology was applied to predict the contribution of each variable. Three different methods: Garson algorithm, Olden algorithm, and Lek’s profile model are used to assess the influence of variable parameters. The Olden algorithm and Lek’s profile both show positive association of cohesion with CBR in an unsoaked condition. Experimental investigation and prediction of tribological behavior of unidirectional short castor oil fiber reinforced epoxy composites

The present study aims at introducing a newly developed natural fiber called castor oil fiber,termed ricinus communis,as a possible reinforcement in *** short castor oil fiber reinforced epoxy resin composites of different fiber lengths with 40%volume fraction were fabricated using hand layup *** sliding wear tests were performed on a pin-on-disc tribometer based on full factorial design of experiments(DoE)at four fiber lengths(5,10,15,and 20 mm),three normal loads(15,30,and 45 N),and three sliding distances(1,000,2,000,and 3,000 m).The effect of individual parameters on the amount of wear,interfacial temperature,and coefficient of friction was studied using analysis of variance(ANOVA).The composite with 5 mm fiber length provided the best tribological properties than 10,15,and 20 mm fiber length *** worn surfaces were analyzed under scanning electron ***,the tribological behavior of the composites was predicted using regression,artificial neural network(ANN)-single hidden layer,and ANN-multi hidden layer *** confirmatory test results show the reliability of predicted *** with multi hidden layers are found to predict the tribological performance accurately and then followed by ANN with single hidden layer and regression model.

Li7P3S11solid electrolytes with high lithium-ion conductivity are promising candidates for use in all-solidstate lithium ***,this electrolyte’s poor interfacial compatibility with lithium electrodes causes unstable *** this study,in order to address this problem,(100-x)Li7P3S11-xLi2OHBr(x=0,2,5,10,20,30,40,and 50)electrolytes are prepared by a high energy ball-milling technique and heat-treatment *** resulting(100-x)Li7P3S11-xLi2OHBr(x=2,5,10,20,30,40,and 50)electrolytes provide improved electrochemical performance with good cycling stability and a wide electrochemical window of up to 10 V(***/Li+).Moreover,these electrolytes have high ionic conductivity of 10-4–10-5S/cm at room ***,the 90Li7P3S11-10Li2OHBr electrolyte displays the highest conductivity of 4.4×10-4S/cm at room temperature as well as improved ***,90Li7P3S11-10Li2OHBr shows decreased interfacial resistance between the solid electrolyte and cathode electrode,which was revealed by Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy(EIS)*** initial discharge capacity of 90Li7P3S11-10Li2OHBr was found to be 135 m Ah/g when used in a In|solid electrolyte|Li(Ni0.6Co0.2Mn0.2)O2 all-solid-state lithium battery(ASSLB).Thus,we can conclude the addition of Li2OHBr into the Li7P3S11results in enhanced electrochemical properties.

Taste masking of ofloxacin and formation of interpenetrating polymer network beads for sustained release

The objective of this study was to carry out taste masking of ofloxacin(Ofl) by ion exchange resins(IERs)followed by sustained release of Ofl by forming interpenetrating polymer network(IPN) beads. Drug-resin complexes(DRCs) with three different ratios of Ofl to IERs(1:1, 1:2, 1:4) were prepared by batch method and investigated for in vivo and in vitro taste masking. DRC of methacrylic acid-divinyl benzene(MD) resin and Ofl prepared at a ratio of 1:4 was used to form IPN beads. IPN beads of MD 1:4 were prepared by following the ionic cross-linking method using sodium carboxymethyl xanthan gum(SCMXG) and SCMXG-sodium carboxymethyl cellulose(SCMXG-SCMC). IPN beads were characterized with FT-IR and further studied on sustained release of Ofl at different pH. In vivo taste masking carried out by human volunteers showed that MD 1:4 significantly reduced the bitterness of Ofl. Characterization studies such as FT-IR, DSC, P-XRD and taste masking showed that complex formation took place between drug and resin. In vitro study at gastric pH showed complete release of drug from MD 1:4 within 30 min whereas IPN beads took 5 h at gastric pH and 10 h at salivary pH for the complete release of drug. As the crosslinking increased the release kinetics changed into non-Fickian diffusion to zero-order release mechanism. MD 1:4 showed better performance for the taste masking of Ofl and IPNs beads prepared from it were found useful for the sustained release of Ofl at both the pH, indicating a versatile drug delivery system.
