Risk assessment and uncertainty approximation are two major and important parameters that need to be adopted for the development of pharmaceutical process to ensure reliable ***,there is a need to switch from the traditional method validation checklist to provide a high level of assurance of method reliability to measure quality attribute of a drug *** the present work,evaluation of risk profile,combined standard uncertainty and expanded uncertainty in the analysis of acyclovir were *** was calculated using cause-effect approach,and to make it more accurately applicable a method was validated in our laboratory as per the IcH *** assessing the results of validation,the calibration model was justified by the lack of fit and Levene＇s *** profile represents the future applications of this *** uncertainty the major contribution is due to sample concentration and *** work demonstrates the application of theoretical concepts of calibration model tests,relative bias,risk profile and uncertainty in routine methods used for analysis in pharmaceutical field.

Two simple, rapid, accurate, precise, reliable and economical spectrophotometric methods have been proposed for the determination of galanthamine hydrobromide (GH) in bulk and pharmaceutical formulation. First method is zero order UV spectrophotometry and second is 1st derivative zero crossing spectrophotometry. The developed methods have shown best results in terms of linearity, accuracy, precision, LOD and LOQ for bulk drugs and marketed formulations. Absorbance was measured at 287 nm for zero order and 277.4 nm for first derivative. It obeyed Lambert-Beer’s law in the range of 30-80 μg mL-1. Both methods have good linearity (r2 = 0.9997) and accuracy found to be 100.5% and 101.2% for both methods respectively.

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the interaction of cinnarizine(cIN)with Hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin(HPβcD)in the presence of Hydroxy Acids(HA).Various binary and ternary systems of cIN with HPβcD and HA were prepared by kneading and coevaporation *** the ternary systems,HA were tried in three different *** interaction in solution phase was studied in detail by the phase solubility method,and the solid phase interactions were characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared(FTIR)spectroscopy,Differential Scanning calorimetry(DSc),X-Ray Diffractometry(XRD),Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM)and Proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance(^1H-NMR).Phase solubility revealed the positive effect of HA on the complexation of cIN with HPβ*** phase characterization confirmed the formation of inclusion complex in the ternary *** and dissolution studies illustrated that out of three different concentrations tried,HA were most effective at the 1 M concentration *** systems were very effective in improving the solubility as well as dissolution profile of cIN than the cIN–HPβcD binary ***,^1H-NMR and Molecular docking studies gave some insight at molecular level that actually which part of cIN was interacting with the HPβ*** docking and free energy calculation even enlighten the role of tartaric acid in increasing solubility of cIN in the ternary system.

DNA damage in exfoliated buccal cells and antioxidant status of saliva in brain tumour patients

The present investigation was carried out in exfoliated buccal cells and saliva collected from pre-operative brain tumour patients. The DNA damage in these cells was assessed by alkaline comet assay and micronucleus (MN) assay. Salivary flow rate, pH, osmolality, total antioxidant activity (AOA) and vitamin c levels were also assessed in unstimulated whole saliva of these patients. In the comet assay a significant increase in the tail length (Pcontrol and malignant groups were compared. A significant (Pce in tail length was also noted between benign and malignant groups. Non significant results were found when control and benign groups were compared. Further, a marked increase in % MN (Pcontrol and benign groups were compared. A significant increase in % MN (Pcases when compared to malignant tumours. No significance was obtained when % MN in control and malignant cases was compared. Moreover, salivary flow rate and pH was significantly decreased and osmolality was markedly increased in brain tumour patients. The AOA levels in saliva were markedly decreased in brain tumours and vitamin c levels exhibited no change when compared to controls. Thus, as noted above susceptibility to free radical induced DNA damage also exists in the exfoliated buccal cells conducive to the lowered salivary antioxidant status of brain tumour patients.

Use of Telemedicine in Postgraduate Pathology Education

Objective: Telemedicine is the use of telecommunication for medical diagnosis, treatment, health education and research. Telepathology is diagnostic pathology at a distance. It functions with images viewed on a video monitor rather than directly through a microscope. Many years have passed since the evolution of telepathology. But no study has yet been done to evaluate the benefits postgraduates got through this. Therefore this study is undertaken to analyse the different impacts of telepathology on the postgraduate learning. Material and Methods: The study was done in Telemedicine center of S. c. B. Medical college, cuttack over a period of 9 years. The telepathology service was carried out by store and forward method using a ccD, a large computer server and a huge bandwidth network service (VSAT). The sessions with SGPGI, Lucknow were analysed and the benefits of postgraduates were studied. Results: The number of sessions held was 95. Out of which 92 sessions were with SGPGI. It included 202 cases transmitted from Lucknow and 186 cases from S. c. B. Medical college, cuttack. The postgraduates had a chance to exposure to rare cases in renal pathology, dermatopathology and hepatopathology. The overall concordance rate with glass slide diagnosis was 87%. conclusion: The diagnostic expertise through light microscopy and tele-images are not the same. But the telepathology system increased the ability of image analysis, histopathologic diagnosis of our postgraduates and also exposed them to many rare and interesting cases.

This paper deals with the analysis of burn rate using various catalysts of Iron Oxide and determining which gives the higher burn rate with low pressure variation. The Ammonium Perchlorate (AP) was obtained and ground into fine powder with the particle size ranging from 63 to 125 μm. The propellant strands were prepared with proportions by mixing AP with the binder (Hydroxyl Terminated Polybutadiene), the catalyst (Iron Oxide), curing agent (Isophorone diisocyanate) and the plasticizer (Dioctyladipate). The prepared propellant mixture was cured at around 63 deg c to get various propellant strands. The first strand was prepared with the absence of a catalyst to set an initial base of comparison with other Iron Oxide catalysts, namely, Flower Shaped, Micro and Nano, based on the size of the particles. The combustion process was carried out in a strand burner, which was in turn connected to a data acquisition system. The obtained output was analysed in the form of graphs. The burn rate was achieved by calculating the slope of the graph i.e . by calculating the difference between the highest and the lowest peak of the graph and dividing the total time by the answer. The experiment was repeated with the different catalyst types, as mentioned above, at different pressures. It was observed that the Nano shaped Iron Oxide exhibits better burning characteristics when compared to the rest with the pressure index of 0.792. In this paper, the various experiments carried out along with their procedures are explained in detail. The results obtained and the techniques used are also elaborately described in this paper.
