Automatic detection of pulse mor.hology patter.s &car.iac r.sks

Analysis of ar.er.al pulse wavefor.s is impor.ant for.non-invasive diagnosis of car.iovascular.functions. Lar.e samples of IPG signal r.cor.s of r.dial ar.er.al pulse show pr.sence of eight differ.nt types of shapes (mor.hological patter.s) in the pulse wavefor.s. In this paper.we pr.sent an efficient computational method for.automatic identification of these mor.hological patter.s. Our.algor.thm uses likelihood r.tio of cumulative per.odogr.m of pulse signals and some geometr.cal cr.ter.a. The algor.thm is pr.sented with necessar. details on signal pr.cessing aspects. r.sults for.a lar.e sample of pulse r.cor.s of adult Indian subjects show high accur.cy of our.algor.thm in detecting pulse-mor.hology patter.s. Var.ation of pulse-mor.hology with r.spect to time is also analyzed using this algor.thm. We have identified some char.cter.stic featur.s of pulse-mor.hology var.ation in patients of cer.ain car.iac pr.blems, hyper.ension, and diabetes. These ar. found r.levant and significant in ter.s of physiological inter.r.tation of the associated shapes of pulse wavefor.s. Impor.ance of these findings is highlighted along with discussion on over.ll scope of our.study in automatic analysis of hear. r.te var.ability and in other.applications for.non-invasive pr.gnosis/diagnosis.
