Therapeutic effect of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells on cold stress induced changes in the hippocampus of rats

The present study aims to evaluate the effect of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells on cold stress induced neuronal changes in hippocampal CA1 region of Wistar rats. Bone marrow mes- enchymal stem cells were isolated from a 6-week-old Wistar rat. Bone marrow from adult femora and tibia was collected and mesenchymal stem cells were cultured in minimal essential medium containing 10% heat-inactivated fetal bovine serum and were sub-cultured. Passage 3 cells were analyzed by flow cytometry for positive expression of CD44 and CD90 and negative expression of CD45. Once CD44 and CD90 positive expression was achieved, the cells were cultured again to 90% confluence for later experiments. Twenty-four rats aged 8 weeks old were randomly and evenly divided into normal control, cold water swim stress （cold stress）, cold stress ＋ PBS （intra- venous infusion）, and cold stress ＋ bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells （1 x 106; intravenous infusion） groups. The total period of study was 60 days which included 1 month stress period followed by 1 month treatment. Behavioral functional test was performed during the entire study period. After treatment, rats were sacrificed for histological studies. Treatment with bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells significantly increased the number of neuronal cells in hippocampal CA 1 region. Adult bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells injected by intravenous administration show potential therapeutic effects in cognitive decline associated with stress-related lesions.

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a debilitating neurological disorder that affects the aged population globally. This study aimed to explore how oral- and intraperitoneal-rotenone-induced PD alters brain urea levels, histopathology, and key Parkinsonism-related genes in the striatum. Hematoxylin and eosin staining was performed for histopathology assessment and real-time polymerase chain reaction was performed for gene expression. Rotenone 3 mg/kg body weight (Rot-3-ip) for 21 days and rotenone 50 mg/kg body weight (Rot-50-po) for 28 days significantly (p Snca, Becn1 and Prkaa1 gene expression in the striatum. Lewy bodies were visible in both Rot-3-ip and Rot-50-po rat brains. There were contrasting features in brain and liver histopathology between the oral and intraperitoneal rotenone treatment groups. However, there was no significant (p can have different impacts on the pathological sequence of events based on the molecular approach.

A crucial step in symbolic time series analysis （STSA） of observed data is symbol sequence generation that relies on partitioning the phase-space of the underlying dynamical system. We present a novel partitioning method, called wavelet-space （WS） partitioning, as an alternative to symbolic false nearest neighbour （SFNN） partitioning. While the WS and SFNN partitioning methods have been demonstrated to yield comparable performance for anomaly detection on laboratory apparatuses, computation of WS partitioning is several orders of magnitude faster than that of the SFNN partitioning.

Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation theory has sevaral applications, in particular in robust control. In this paper, we derive necessary and sufficient condition so that a modification of the Nevanlinna-Pick theory can place the closed-loop poles inside a circular region in the left half of the complex plane in addition to the control system design being robust and internally stable. Numerical examples illustrate the theory.

The diagnosability of discrete event systems has been a topic of interest to many researchers. The diagnosability conditions for various systems have evolved based on a regularity condition that is imposed on faulty traces with respect to their observable continuations. Improving upon this weak but necessary condition, a new model of diagnosability that is based on sensor outputs, which are called observatio ns, upon a command in put is proposed in this paper. Necessary and sufficient con ditions are derived for the proposed diagnosability model. The search performance of the proposed diagnosability condition is of linear complexity in terms of the power set of the system events and observations, compared to the exponential complexity of the search with the existing diag nosability regularity condition. Moreover, a system that is not diag no sable according to the existi ng diag nosability condition may be diagnosable in the proposed diagnosability model, which includes observations.

Statistical downscaling is based on the fact that the large-scale climatic state and regional/local physiographic features control the regional climate. In the present paper, a stochastic weather generator is applied to seasonal precipitation and temperature forecasts produced by the International Research Institute for Climate and Society （IRI）. In conjunction with the GLM （generalized linear modeling） weather generator, a resampling scheme is used to translate the uncertainty in the seasonal forecasts （the IRI format only specifies probabilities for three categories： below normal, near normal, and above normal） into the corresponding uncertainty for the daily weather statistics. The method is able to generate potentially useful shifts in the probability distributions of seasonally aggregated precipitation and minimum and maximum temperature, as well as more meaningful daily weather statistics for crop yields, such as the number of dry days and the amount of precipitation on wet days. The approach is extended to the case of climate change scenarios, treating a hypothetical return to a previously observed drier regime in the Pampas.

Process safety in chemical industries is considered to be one of the important goals towards sustainable development. This is due to the fact that, major accidents still occur and continue to exert significant reputational and financial impacts on process industries. Alarm systems constitute an indispensable component of automation as they draw the attention of process operators to any abnormal conditi on in the plant. Therefore, if deployed properly, alarm systems can play a critical role in helping plant operators ensure process safety and profitability. How-ever, in practice, many process plants suffer from poor alarm system configuration which leads to nuisance alarms and alarm floods that compromise safety. A vast amount of research has primarily focused on developing sophisticated alarm management algorithms to address specific issues. In this article, we provide a simple, practical, systematic approach that can be applied by plant engineers (i.e., non-experts) to improve industrial alarm system performance. The proposed approach is demonstrated using an industrial power plant case study.

This paper identifies the dilemma faced by the stakeholders of existing buildings in regards to a decision making process for energy *** paper also identifies the missing stage viewed as the“integrity audit”which can lead to substantial savings in the area of building *** methodology is centered on identifying energy waste first,reducing the overall peak electrical demand and then retrofitting for energy-efficiency.A proposed“integrity audit”leads to the classification of three main energy culprits:the identification of waste,missed opportunities,and rescheduling the operation of equipment use.A case study indicating the financial advantages of applying this methodology for a commercial building are *** energy retrofitting strategy is divided into two main categories,namely building control improvements and building component *** payback periods are often within months if not immediate.
