Our focus is on a non-linear, time delayed, fluid model for Compound TCP （C-TCP） which is widely implemented in the current Internet. We couple this model with a Drop-Tail queue policy, currently deployed in routers, in two different limiting regimes: a small buffer and an intermediate buffer regime. We consider a topology where two distinct sets of long lived Compound flows, each regulated by separate edge routers, merge at a common core network router. For both the small and the intermediate router buffer regimes, we derive explicit analytical conditions under which synchronisation would occur between the two competing sets of TCP flows. The conditions are made explicit in terms of a coupling strength, which depends on Compound parameters and on network parameters like the feedback delay, link capacity and router buffer sizes. Variations in the coupling strength can lead to the emergence of deterministic, nonlinear, oscillations in the form of limit cycles in the queue size. Our analytical results are corroborated with packet-level simulations. With Drop-Tail, small buffers were found to be preferable over intermediate buffers;they can ensure both low latency and stable queues, at least in high speed networks.

Genetic profiling of environmentally important organisms is very essential for easy identification of biodegrading bacteria. In the previous study, we have reported the perchlorate biodegrading bacteria and characterized them by biochemical analysis and 16 S sequencing. We have observed a very similar isolates of Arthrobacter (Actinobacteria) degrading 4.1 mM and 4.7 mM of ammonium perchlorate [1] 08D0C9EA79F9BACE118C8200AA004BA90B02000000080000000E0000005F005200650066003300390038003100390037003300340037000000 . In this study, we report PCR based DNA fingerprinting technique to generate the genomic signature of these closely related group of Arthrobacter species. This study also effectively generates unique genomic signature for each of these isolates that has potential for use in molecular monitoring as well as for tracking genomic variation and rearrangements.

Combining ideas proposed by Kaldor and Kalecki leads to a non-linear, time delayed, model for business cycle dynamics. In this paper, we analyse the stability and the local Hopf bifurcation properties of a Kaldor-Kalecki type model. In the analysis of such models, it is common to assume that the time delay continuously varies, and hence it is treated as a bifurcation parameter. However, this may not be a realistic assumption in various economic *** use an exogeneous, and non-dimensional, parameter as the bifurcation parameter to show that the underlying system undergoes a local Hopf bifurcation. Further, as this parameter gradually varies beyond the Hopf condition, we expect limit cycles to emerge from the stable equilibrium. We then, using Poincar′e normal forms and the center manifold theory, outline the analysis to verify the type of the Hopf bifurcation and determine the stability of the limit cycles. The theoretical analysis is illustrated with some numerical examples.

Patients with acute kidney injury(AKI) in the intensive care unit(ICU) are often suitable for palliative care due to the high symptom burden. The role of palliative medicine in this patient population is not well defined and there is a lack of established guidelines to address this issue. Because of this,patients in the ICU with AKI deprived of the most comprehensive or appropriate care. The reasons for this are multifactorial including lack of palliative care training among nephrologists. However,palliative care in these patients can help alleviate symptoms,improve quality of life,and decrease suffering. Palliative care physicians can determine the appropriateness and model of palliative care. In addition to shared decision-making,advance directives should be established with patients early on,with specific instructions regarding dialysis,and those advance directives should be respected.

Background: Although BCG is the most widely administered vaccine in the world, there have never been as many cases of TB as there are now. Globally, more than 8.8 million people developed active TB and 1.4 million—many of them—died in 2010. It is estimated that half of pulmonary TB cases arise from latent Mtb infection, making the study of latency and reactivation of utmost importance. Methods: Widely administered BCG vaccines and a gene modified recombinant BCG (rBCG) strain, AERAS-422, were used as models to investigate the growth promoting function of resuscitation-promoting factors (Rpfs) in different bacilli culture phases. Different supernatant fractions were prepared by ultrafiltration, and the promoting function of each fraction containing secreted Rpf(s) was evaluated by growth curve monitoring and colony counting on 7H10 agar plates. Results: The promoting effect of culture supernatants was mainly associated with the high molecular weight fraction (>30 kDa), which stimulated bacterial growth, but did not extend the exponential phase of stimulated culture. Anti-RpfB antibody showed significant growth restriction of the tested cultures. When comparing rBCG cultures containing 7H9 medium, the 10 - 30 kDa fraction, or the >30 kDa fraction, only the >30 kDa fraction was displayed with down-regulation of the secretion of RpfC, D and E. In colony counting tests, the plates containing the >30 kDa fraction had total countable colony numbers 2 to 3 fold higher than the plates with the 10 - 30 kDa fraction, and colonies appeared one to two weeks earlier than on the regular plates. The potential applications of the prepared supernatant fractions containing RpfA and RpfB are discussed, which may include accelerating diagnosis of Mtb infection and future TB vaccine development.

In today’s world, the study and applications of Vertical Take-Off and Landing （VTOL） capable Unmanned Aerial Vehicles （UAVs） have increased vastly. A wide variety of UAVs are currently being employed in both civilian and military sectors. In this paper, our focus will be on the Tilt-rotor UAV. The Tilt-rotor has a rotor on each side of its airframe, tilted to provide both lift and forward thrust to the rotor-craft. We develop a model that aims to enable the Tilt-rotor UAV to hover in one specific position. Because of the under-actuated property of the Tilt-rotor, we design a back-stepping based proportional- derivative （PD） controller. The controller was able to achieve the desired objective of stabilization.

A Back-stepping Control Strategy for the Tri-rotor UAV

Over the last decade, the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles （UAVs） has increased dramatically in both military surveillance and in civilian search and rescue operations. In this paper, we focus on the Tri-rotor UAV. We start by developing a model for a Tri-rotor UAV where our objective is to enable the rotor-craft to stabilize itself automatically at any desired hovering position. The Tri-rotor is composed of three rotors which are equidistant from its center of gravity. In contrast to a Quad-rotor, the rotors in a Tri-rotor introduce a destabilizing reaction torque to the system. This aspect of the Tri-rotor provides additional modeling challenges as compared to the Quad-rotor. The Tri-rotor is modeled using the Euler-Lagrange formalism. The speed of the rotors and tilt angle of one of the rotors constitute the four control inputs. The model acts as an underactuated one, as the model is a 6 Degree Of Freedom （DOF） model with only 4 external inputs. For the stabilization of the model, a back-stepping non-linear control is implemented, and the proposed controller is also analyzed by simulations.

Recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2(rhBMP-2)has been FDA-approved for lumbar fusion,but supraphysiologic initial burst release due to suboptimal carrier and late excess bone resorption caused by osteoclast activation have limited its clinical *** strategy to mitigate the pro-osteoclast side effect of rhBMP-2 is to give systemic bisphosphonates,but it presents challenges with systemic side effects and low local *** aim of this in vivo study was to analyze if posterolateral spinal fusion(PLF)could be improved by utilizing a calcium sulfate/hydroxyapatite(CaS/HA)carrier co-delivering rhBMP-2 and zoledronic acid(ZA).Six groups were allocated(CaS/HA,CaS/HA+BMP-2,CaS/HA+systemic ZA,CaS/HA+local ZA,CaS/HA+BMP-2+systemic ZA,and CaS/HA+BMP-2+local ZA).10-week-old male Wistar rats,were randomly assigned to undergo L4-L5 PLF with implantation of group-dependent *** 3 and 6 weeks,the animals were euthanized for radiography,μCT,histological staining,or biomechanical testing to evaluate spinal *** results demonstrated that the CaS/HA biomaterial alone or in combination with local or systemic ZA didn’t support ***,the delivery of rhBMP-2 significantly promoted *** systemic ZA with rhBMP-2 didn’t enhance spinal ***,the co-delivery of rhBMP-2 and ZA using the CaS/HA carrier significantly enhanced and accelerated PLF,without inhibiting systemic bone turnover,and potentially reduced the dose of ***,the treatment regimen of CaS/HA biomaterial co-delivering rhBMP-2 and ZA could potentially be a safe and cost-effective off-the-shelf bioactive bone substitute to enhance spinal fusion.
