Cholesteric liquid crystal(Ch-LC)exhibits many remarkable optical properties due to formation of a macroscopic helical structure.A low amount of monomer(5wt.%)is dispersed into cholesteric liquid crystal and get polymerized under UV radiations to form polymer stabilized cholesteric texture(PSCT).The thermo-chromic response made this device suitable for the developing applications in thermal *** based measurements of PSCT exploits the key property of some polymer stabilized cholesteric liquid crystals(PSCLC)to reflect definite colors at specific *** selective color of PSCT texture shifts with raise in temperature from 30oC to 85oC,which can be utilized in thermal imaging applications.

Aim： To evaluate the long-term effectiveness, side effects and compliance rates of two types of drugs （luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone [LHRH] agonist and antiandrogen） that were used individually to treat patients with localized prostate cancer （T1-2） at our institution. Methods： Ninety-seven patients who were diagnosed in the period from April 1997 to January 2000 as having clinically localized prostate cancer （T1-2） received either LHRH agonist （leuprolide acetate 7.5 mg/month） monotherapy （group 1, n = 62） or antiandrogen monotherapy （group 2, n = 35; 18 received bicalutamide 50 mg q.d., 13 received nilutamide 150 mg t.i.d, and 4 received flutamide 250 mg t.i.d.）. The mean age in both groups was 76 years. Results： The mean follow-up time was （50.8 ±8.5） months in group 1 and （43.1 ± 2.2） months in group 2. Prostate-specific antigen （PSA） levels rose in only 1 of the 62 patients （1.6%） in group 1, and in 20 of the 35 patients （57.1%） in group 2. In group 2, 10 of the 20 patients （50 %） with increasing PSA levels were treated with LHRH salvage therapy, and eight （80%） responded. Hot flashes （54.8%） and lethargy （41.9%） were the most common side effects in group 1. In contrast, nipple-tenderness （40%） and light-dark adaptation （17.1%） were more often seen in group 2. Only 1 of the 62 patients （1.6%） in group 1 switched to another medication because of adverse side effects; whereas 8 of the 35 patients （22.9%） in group 2 did so. Conclusion： Unlike antiandrogen monotherapy, LHRH agonist monotherapy provided long-term durable control of localized prostate cancer （T1-2）. It can also be an effective treatment option for patients whose disease failed to respond to antiandrogen monotherapy. The limitations of our study are the lack of health outcomes analysis and a small sample size.

The spatial distribution of bacterial communities inhabiting sediment is heterogeneous at different spatial scales,but mostly ***,it is postulated that the heterogeneity of the bacterial community composition varies at the same scale of the heterogeneity of sediment chemical *** large spatial scale(km) diversity in sediment from a brackish water lagoon(Chilika Lake,India) is studied,considering the large scale physical and chemical characteristics of land cover,climate,pH,and ***-two samples(24 stations,3 seasons:winter,rainy,and summer) of sediment from Chilika Lake were analyzed by 16 S ribosomal ribonucleic acid(rRNA) gene sequencing,and the relations with land cover and other physico-chemical paramete rs are *** re samples were collected after a severe cyclonic storm(Phailin) passed near the lagoon in 2013,to see the impact of the tropical storm on the spatial and tempo ral distribution of bacteria in the *** results demonstrate clear spatial relations between physico-chemical parameters(e.g.,salinity),land surfaces(e.g.,drainage area),and the distribution of sediment microbial communities.

Time delays are an integral part of various physiological processes. In this paper, we analyse two models for physiological systems: the Mackey-Glass and Lasota equations. We first exhibit a sufficient condition to ensure local stability, and then outline the associated necessary and sufficient condition for stability. Using a non-dimensional bifurcation parameter, we then highlight that stability will be lost via a Hopf bifurcation. We also explicitly characterise the type of the Hopf bifurcation using Poincar′e normal forms and the center manifold theory. The theoretical analysis is complemented with some numerical examples, stability charts and bifurcation diagrams.

We analyse a non-linear fluid model of TCP coupled with a Random Early Detection（RED）-like queue management policy. We first show that the conditions for local stability, as parameters vary, will be violated via a Hopf bifurcation. Thus, a stable equilibrium would give rise to limit cycles. To identify the type of the Hopf bifurcation, and to determine the stability of the bifurcating limit cycles, we apply the theory of normal forms and the center manifold analysis. Some numerical computations accompany our theoretical work.

The analysis of TCP, along with queue management policies, forms an important aspect of performance evaluation for the Internet. In this paper, we analyse a non-linear fluid model for Compound TCP（C-TCP） coupled with an Exponential-RED（E-RED） queue management policy. Compound is an important flavor of TCP, as it is the default transport protocol in the Windows operating system. For the bifurcation analysis, we motivate an exogenous and non-dimensional bifurcation parameter. Using this parameter, we first derive the Hopf bifurcation condition for the underlying model. Then, employing Poincar′e normal forms and the center manifold theory, we outline the analysis to characterise the type of the Hopf bifurcation, and determine the stability of the bifurcating periodic solutions. Some numerical analysis and stability charts complement our theoretical analysis.

Models that describe interactions between species are often used to study the dynamics of populations in an ecosystem. In this paper we focus on one such model, i.e. a time delayed version of the Lotka-Volterra dynamical system. In particular, we study the effects of time delays in,（i） the interspecies interactions and,（ii） the carrying capacity of the prey population, on the system *** these two cases, we first perform a local stability analysis, where we derive the necessary and sufficient condition for stability. It is shown that, as the time delay is varied, the system loses stability in the first case and exhibits a finite number of stability switches in the second case. We then explicitly show that the loss of stability, in the first case, happens through a Hopf bifurcation. Further, using Poincar′e normal forms and center manifold theorem, we analyse the type of the Hopf bifurcation. To complement our analysis, stability charts and bifurcation diagrams are also presented.

A key focus of this paper is on understanding stability in a non-linear circuit design subject to delayed feedback. The system we consider is an autonomous first order RC circuit, coupled with a non-linear element, with a fixed feedback delay. With time delays, stability is a key concern. So for the non-linear circuit model we first establish a sufficient condition for local stability. We then establish necessary and sufficient conditions for local stability. Additionally we also exhibit that when local stability is just lost, a Hopf type bifurcation would occur. For the non-linear system, this bifurcation signifies the emergence of limit cycles which can degrade performance. Practically, it is useful to obtain an estimate of the amplitude and frequency of the bifurcating periodic solutions. Such estimates are calculated using the method of harmonic balance. In addition to the local stability analysis, we also establish some global stability results and some conditions to ensure that the solutions of the governing non-linear system are bounded. Some of the theoretical insights obtained are complemented with numerical simulations and also with experiments which are carried out using off-the-shelf components. The combination of theory, both local and global, simulations and experiments serve to enhance our understanding of the underlying model.
