This article discusses the implementation of a hybrid renewable-energy system to satisfy the electricity requirements of a building.The analysis is based on optimization calculations performed using HOMER software.The components of the simulated hybrid renewable-energy system include photovoltaics,generators powered by biogas,converters and a grid.The input data utilized by the HOMER software are derived from measurements and surveys.The electric load curve is obtained through measurements at the location of the case study.Through surveys,parameters pertaining to the components of the hybrid renewable-energy system were gathered.The analysis was carried out using two sensitivity variables,namely electricity price and grid reliability.On the basis of these two sensitivity variables,optimal system configuration,net present cost,energy cost,return on investment,internal rate of return and payback period were analysed.The results of the analysis indicated that reducing subsidies,which results in higher electricity prices,provided opportuni-ties for economically competitive hybrid renewable-energy systems.With electricity prices of US$0.094/kWh,the return of investment and the internal rate of return increased to 15%and 19%,respectively,and the payback period decreased to 5.3 years.When a hybrid renewable-energy system is implemented in regions with low grid reliability,the same phenomenon occurs.

Spout-fluid beds are unique systems that require thorough study prior to their industrial application.In this study,the hydrodynamics of spout-fluid beds were investigated using 3D computational fluid dy-namics coupled with discrete element method(CFD-DEM).Three flow regimes,including jet-in-fluidized bed,spouting-with-aeration,and intermediate/spout-fluidization were studied,and the particle mixing was quantified in these regimes using the Lacey mixing index.The results showed that both axial and lateral mixing rates are better in jet-in-fluidized bed and the spouting-with-aeration flow regimes,with the axial mixing being superior to the lateral in all flow regimes.Examining the diffusivity coefficient revealed that mixing in the jet-in-fluidized bed flow regime is better due to the formation and eruption of bubbles in the annulus.Additionally,the granular temperature was analyzed in all flow regimes,and higher particle velocity fluctuations were observed in the spouting-with-aeration and the jet-in-fluidized bed flow regimes due to the higher spout gas velocity and formation of bubbles in the annulus.This study provides valuable insights into the hydrodynamics of spout-fluid beds in different flow regimes,which can aid in the design and optimization of spout-fluid bed reactors for various industrial applications.

In this paper,six different types of silicone rubberbased composites were investigated for applications in high voltage insulation through multi-stress accelerated aging conducted for a period of 5000 h both under AC and DC voltages.The main goal of this study was lifetime prediction of HTV-SR based composites at a typical multi-stress aging conditions.Several diagnostic techniques such as hydrophobicity assessment,leakage current measurement and FTIR were incorporated to assess the aging.As an outcome of this investigation,all the five hybrid samples were found as quite resistant to aging while the neat sample was comparatively,less resistant to the aging.Overall,among the studied samples,TS2 and TS4 appeared to have shown the highest resistance to aging giving a service life of 43.2 and 42 years,respectively under AC aging.Under DC stress the order of merit of investigated samples was identical to that of AC stress but having marginally less life spans.

OBJECTIVES:To estimate the existence of phytochemicals and then to determine the antidiabetic activity againstα-amylase andβ-glucosidase inhibition in vitro.METHODS:The study was carried out by following standard procedures.RESULTS:Phytochemicals analysis indicated the presence of different phytochemicals.The total phenolic content was 6.055 mg GAE/g and the total flavonoid content was 5.706 mg RU/g in the plant extract.The total saponins,alkaloids,and tannins contents were(0.044%),(2.88%)and(2.862 nm)respectively.α-amylase inhibition activity of Calligonum polygonoides(CP)extract was 70%with IC50 of 610μg/mL and that ofβ-glucosidase inhibition activity was 65%with IC50 of 640μg/mL.CONCLUSION:The findings reported for the first time the antidiabetes-promoting effects of an extract of CP in vitro,thus validating their promising anti-diabetes potential.

Wilt disease with unknown etiology causes mass mortality in commercial Acacia mangium nurseries in South Sumatra.This pathogen induces symptoms of chlorosis in the lower leaves and develops into the shoots;subsequently,the plants wither and die.This research identifies the path-ogenic species causing this wilt disease and to assess its pathogenicity or virulence.Fifteen isolates of Fusarium oxysporum with varying colony sizes and color pigments were recovered from symptomatic A.mangium seedlings.The pathogenicity test showed that all isolates could infect plants with wilt severity reaching 80%,and the pathogen was verified as causing vascular disease.Koch’s postulate was verified by re-isolating the F.oxysporum isolates.The pathogen was confirmed by observing the morphological characters and elongation factor 1-α(tef1-α)gene sequences as F.oxysporum.

Satellite networks are recognized as the most essential communication infrastructures in the world today,which complement land networks and provide valuable services for their users.Extensive coverage and service stability of these networks have increased their popularity.Since eavesdropping and active intrusion in satellite communications are much easier than in terrestrial networks,securing satellite communications is vital.So far,several protocols have been proposed for authentication and key exchange of satellite communications,but none of them fullymeet the security requirements.In this paper,we examine one of these protocols and identify its security vulnerabilities.Moreover,we propose a robust and secure authentication and session key agreement protocol using the elliptic curve cryptography(ECC).We show that the proposed protocol meets common security requirements and is resistant to known security attacks.Moreover,we prove that the proposed scheme satisfies the security features using the Automated Validation of Internet Security Protocols and Applications(AVISPA)formal verification tool and On-the fly Model-Checker(OFMC)and ATtack SEarcher(ATSE)model checkers.We have also proved the security of the session key exchange of our protocol using theReal orRandom(RoR)model.Finally,the comparison of our scheme with similar methods shows its superiority.

Fog computing became a traditional OffLad Destination(OLD)to compute the offloaded tasks of the Internet of Vehicles(IoV).Nevertheless,the limited computing resources of the fog node leads to re-offload these tasks to the neighboring fog nodes or the cloud.Thus,the IoV will incur additional offloading costs.In this paper,we propose a new offloading scheme by utilizing RoadSide Parked Vehicles(RSPV)as an alternative OLD for IoV.The idle computing resources of the RSPVs can compute large tasks with low offloading costs compared with fog nodes and the cloud.Finally,a performance evaluation of the proposed scheme has been presented and discussed with other benchmark offloading schemes.

The rapid spread of COVID-19 pandemic has forced several countries in the world to store vaccines in cold storage towards ensuring their protection from being damaged and to maintain their stability.However,most remote clinics,especially those in the equator and islands,are faced with the challenges of hot climates and the inability to afford electricity resources needed to power the cold storage facility.Meanwhile,the hot equatorial region has abundant solar energy to power the vaccine cold storage but previous studies showed that several field workers do not have the ability to maintain the vaccine storage temperature as indicated by the manufacturer’s recommendations.Therefore,this literature review study examines the prospects and challenges of implementing solar-powered cold storage to provide cooling space for remote clinics.This is expected to contribute significantly to cold chain vaccine management technology.The findings showed that four technology integration schemes including Cold Storage Ice Maker,Cold Storage Ice Maker-PCM,Refrigerator-Ice Maker and,Absorbing Cooling-PV-Ice Maker have the potential to be applied in clinics situated in certain tropical regions.

As nearly half of the incidents in enterprise security have been triggered by insiders,it is important to deploy a more intelligent defense system to assist enterprises in pinpointing and resolving the incidents caused by insiders or malicious software(malware)in real-time.Failing to do so may cause a serious loss of reputation as well as business.At the same time,modern network traffic has dynamic patterns,high complexity,and large volumes that make it more difficult to detect malware early.The ability to learn tasks sequentially is crucial to the development of artificial intelligence.Existing neurogenetic computation models with deep-learning techniques are able to detect complex patterns;however,the models have limitations,including catastrophic forgetfulness,and require intensive computational resources.As defense systems using deep-learning models require more time to learn new traffic patterns,they cannot perform fully online(on-the-fly)learning.Hence,an intelligent attack/malware detection system with on-the-fly learning capability is required.For this paper,a memory-prediction framework was adopted,and a simplified single cell assembled sequential hierarchical memory(s.SCASHM)model instead of the hierarchical temporal memory(HTM)model is proposed to speed up learning convergence to achieve onthe-fly learning.The s.SCASHM consists of a Single Neuronal Cell(SNC)model and a simplified Sequential Hierarchical Superset(SHS)platform.The s.SCASHMis implemented as the prediction engine of a user behavior analysis tool to detect insider attacks/anomalies.The experimental results show that the proposed memory model can predict users’traffic behavior with accuracy level ranging from 72%to 83%while performing on-the-fly learning.
