In this paper, a robust DWPT based adaptive bock algorithm with modified threshold for denoising the sounds of musical instruments shehnai, dafli and flute is proposed. The signal is first segmented into multiple blocks depending upon the minimum mean square criteria in each block, and then thresholding methods are used for each block. All the blocks obtained after denoising the individual block are concatenated to get the final denoised signal. The discrete wavelet packet transform provides more coefficients than the conventional discrete wavelet transform (DWT), representing additional subtle detail of the signal but decision of optimal decomposition level is very important. When the sound signal corrupted with additive white Gaussian noise is passed through this algorithm, the obtained peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) depends upon the level of decomposition along with shape of the wavelet. Hence, the optimal wavelet and level of decomposition may be different for each signal. The obtained denoised signal with this algorithm is close to the original signal.

In this article, we propose efficient methods for solving two stage transshipment problems. Transshipment problem is the special case of Minimum cost flow problem in which arc capacities are infinite. We start by proposing a novel problem formulation for a two stage transshipment problem. Later, special structure of our problem formulation is utilized to devise two dual based heuristics solutions with computational complexity of O (n2), and O (n3) respectively. These methods are motivated by the methods developed by Sharma and Saxena [1], Sinha and Sharma [2]. Our methods differ in the initialization and the subsequent variation of the dual variables associated with the transshipment nodes along the shortest path. Lastly, a method is proposed to extract a very good primal solution from the given dual solutions with a computational complexity of O (n2). Efficacy of these methods is demonstrated by our numerical analysis on 200 random problems.

In two-stage warehouse location problem, goods are moved from plants to warehouses at stage-1 (which are larger sized warehouses), and from there to warehouses at stage-2 (which are smaller sized warehouses);and finally to the markets. We aim to minimize the sum of location costs of the warehouses at stage-1 and stage-2;plus the total distribution cost of goods to the markets. In this paper two-stage capacitated warehouse location problem (TSCWLP) is vertically decomposed into the smaller problems, which is attained by relaxing the associated flow balance constraints. This leads to three different versions of Capacitated Plant Location Problem (CPLP) referred as RHS_CPLP, MID_CPLP and LHS_CPLP (Verma and Sharma REF _Ref387068711 \r \h [1]). In this paper MID_CPLP is reduced to RHS_CPLP and a single constraint 0-1 Knapsack problem by relaxing a difficult constraint. Interesting results and conjectures are given. Later two more valid constraints are added to MID_CPLP which are relaxed further to get additional results.

The sustainability of prevailing maize-fallow system in rainfed ecosystems of the Eastern Himalayan region(EHR)of India is often questioned due to poor economic return and negative impact on soil ***,the six cropping systems,maize-fallow(M-F),maize t cowpea-rapeseed(M t C-Rs),maize t cowpea-buckwheat(M t C-Bw),maize t cowpea-barley(M t CeB),maize t cowpea-garden pea(M t C-GP)and maize t cowpeaerajmash(M t C-R)in the main plot and three soil moisture conservation measures,no-mulch(NM),maize stover mulch(MSM)and maize stover t weed biomass mulch(MSM t WBM)in sub-plot were evaluated for four consecutive years(2014-18)at a Research Farm in fixed plot *** indicated that cowpea co-culture with maize and inclusion of winter crop increased maize yield by 6.2e23.5%over *** the systems,the M t C-GP recorded the highest crop *** residual effect of MSM t WBM increased maize grain yield by 19.1%over *** of maize t cowpea-winter crops significantly improved the available N(3.2e12.9%),P(3.6 e12.7%),K(1.9e26.3%),organic carbon(9.2e16.8%),microbial biomass carbon-MBC(15.2e43.9%)and dehydrogenases-DHA(17.2e42.3%)in soil at 0e15 cm depth as compared to *** M t C-GP also recorded maximum net return(US$2460 ha1),benefit:cost(B:C)ratio(2.86)and energy use efficiency(7.9%).The MSM t WBM recorded higher net return(US$1680 ha1)and B:C ratio(2.46)over ***,cowpea t maize-garden pea(M t C-GP)along with the application of MSM t WBM is a sustainable production practice to intensify the organically managed maize-fallow system in rainfed regions of the EHR of India and other similar ecosystems.

针对2013年12月和2014年12月南京地区秋冬季的2次典型霾污染过程,利用地面观测资料和常规气象资料,对这2次霾发生前后以及发生期间的天气环境、天气条件进行观测、分析。该文还通过HYSPLIT-4观察2次污染气团的来源,并利用CALIPSO分析2次污染期间气溶胶组分,发现由南京及周边地区形成、并在局地停留发展壮大的污染气团容易形成重大霾污染事件,污染物主要来源于当地的工厂、交通、建筑等;由北方携带大量污染物的气团入侵到南京地区,容易造成南京的霾污染天气,并且污染物组分以灰尘、污染性灰尘为主。由于天气条件的不同,2次污染发生期间的污染程度存在着巨大的差异。通过文章研究,发现稳定的气象条件容易发生霾天气,特别是当近地层风速较弱、混合层高度低、出现强逆温以及产生弱上升运动时,容易发生严重性霾污染天气。研究还发现各气象要素的共同作用导致了霾污染程度的变化。

Hybrid Formulation of the Multi-Item Capacitated Dynamic Lot Sizing Problem

It is shown that when backorders, setup times and dynamic demand are included in capacitated lot sizing problem, the resulting classical formulation and one of the transportation formulations of the problem (referred to as CLSP_BS) are equivalent. And it is shown that both the formulations are “weak” formulations (as opposed to “strong” formulation). The other transportation version is a strong formulation of CLSP_BS. Extensive computational studies are presented for medium and large sized problems. In case of medium-sized problems, strong formulation produces better LP bounds, and takes lesser number of branch-and-bound (B&B) nodes and less CPU time to solve the problem optimally. However for large-sized problems strong formulation takes more time to solve the problem optimally, defeating the benefit of strength of bounds. This essentially is because of excessive increase in the number of constraints for the large sized problems. Hybrid formulations are proposed where only few most promising strong constraints are added to the weak formulation. Hybrid formulation emerges as the best performer against the strong and weak formulations. This concept of hybrid formulation can efficiently solve a variety of complex real life large-sized problems.

Laparoscopic iliopubic tract repair for pediatric inguinal hernia has very low recurrence: an Indian experience

Background The aim of this study is to document results of laparoscopic iliopubic tract(IPT)repair for inguinal hernia in the pediatric age *** Hospital records of 190 children who underwent IPT repair between January 2015 and January 2020 were analyzed retrospectively for demographic details,variations between clinical,radiological and laparoscopic diagnosis,associated pathologies,operative time,hospital stay,postoperative complications and *** internal ring was narrowed by approximating IPT to conjoint tendon using 3-0 polypropylene continuous or interrupted *** In total,238 IPT repairs were done under general anesthesia in 190 children aged between 1 and 17 years.7.9%of children had phimosis,and three children had *** patients had undescended testis and another three IPT repairs were done in cases who presented with *** patent processus vaginalis(CPPV)was detected at the time of laparoscopy in 18.3%of *** far,166 children had been followed,and no recurrence was observed in any of these 96 of whom have completed more than 3 years after their ***,two patients developed hernia on the contralateral *** Laparoscopy is beneficial to pick up *** IPT repair for pediatric inguinal hernia is reproducible and safe with the least recurrence reported thus ***,further follow-up is ***,development of contralateral hernia needs to be investigated.

Long-term effects of management systems on crop yield and soil physical properties of semi-arid tropics of Vertisols

Long-term experiments can be used to assess management induced changes in soil properties and sustainability of the management system in terms of the productivity. Such data are scanty, especially in the semi-arid tropics (SAT) region. A long-term experiment established in 1976 at ICRISAT in India on Vertisols with two management treatments;improved management (IM), comprising semi-permanent broadbed and furrow (BBF) landform with minimum tillage and improved cropping practices;and traditional management (TM) system comprising keeping the land fallow during the rainy season and sowing on flat landform during post-rainy season with traditional cropping practices, was sampled after 24 and 34 years for soil physical and hydrological properties. Results showed that both in short-and long-term the management systems had profound effect on crop yields. Also in the long-term IM and TM management systems had significant effect on several soil physical and hydrological properties. Throughout the soil profile IM systems had significantly lower bulk density, significantly higher porosity, substantially lower penetration resistance both at 5 cm (1 and 8 MPa) and 15 cm depths (8 and 15 MPa), significantly higher infiltration and sorptivity and significantly larger mean weight diameter of 4.3 mm compared to 2.8 mm for soils under TM. However, management systems had no significant effect on moisture holding capacities both at 0.033 and 1.5 MPa. Significant differences between the improved and traditional systems were observed in the size and pattern of soil surface cracks. Over the long-term, the improved management systems has very favorable effects on soil physical and hydrological properties and on the soil surface cracking and its patterns, thereby contributing to higher productivity.

What Does Monogamy in Higher Powers of a Correlation Measure Mean?

We examine here the proposition that all multiparty quantum states can be made monogamous by considering positive integral powers of any quantum correlation measure. With Rajagopal-Rendell quantum deficit as the measure of quantum correlations for symmetric 3-qubit pure states, we illustrate that monogamy inequality is satisfied for higher powers of quantum deficit. We discuss the drawbacks of this inequality in quantification of correlations in the state. We also prove a monogamy inequality in higher powers of classical mutual information and bring out the fact that such inequality needs not necessarily imply restricted shareability of correlations. We thus disprove the utility of higher powers of any correlation measure in establishing monogamous nature in multiparty quantum states.
