This paper focuses on techniques in utilizing remote sensor technology for precision crop production by farmers as climate change adaptation strategy in Nigeria. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study and was carried out between August 2013 and May 2014. The findings of the study revealed that 32 items were needed by farmers in utilizing sensory technology for precision crop production. The study recommended that the 32 items identified by the study should be utilized by extension agent in teaching the farmers the use of sensor technology for precision crop production while the farmers should make themselves available for the training.

Growth Pattern in Children with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis: A Retrospective Study

Aim of this study is to assess growth pattern in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and factors associated with growth retardation. Methods: A retrospective chart review of all cases of JIA following up at Pediatric Department of King Abdulaziz University Hospital, between July 2000 to July 2016. Demographic, clinical and biological data were collected and analyzed as risk factor for growth retardation. These included age, gender, age at diagnosis, disease duration, type of JIA, the presence of uveitis, rheumatoid factor (RF) positivity, antinuclear antibody (ANA) titer and treatment. Growth pattern was assessed as the percentile for height-for-age, weight-for-age and weight-for-height in reference to the Growth Chart for Saudi Children and Adolescents. Change in percentile rank was divided into 3 categories: regression (a drop of ≥1 percentile);stable (uphold of the same percentile);and progression (change for a superior percentile). Results: A total 78 children were eligible, 52.6% females, mean ± SD age = 9.94 ± 4.92 years, and age at diagnosis = 7.44 ± 4.52 years, mean ± SD [range] disease duration = 2.93 ± 2.70 [6 months;15 years]. The most frequent types of JIA were systemic (33.3%), oligoarticular (30.8%) and polyarticular negative RF (26.9%). other parameters included positive ANA in 41.0%, positive RF in 7.7% and uveitis in 9.0%. The most frequent treatment was methotrexate (59.0%), followed by biological therapy (47.4%), non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (43.6%) and prednisolone (33.3%). Growth data were available for 67 (85.9%) children, and assessments showed 36% cases of break of the growth curve in both height-for-age and weight-for-age percentiles and 31% in weight-for-height percentiles. In all three parameters, there were shifts towards lower percentiles from time of diagnosis to last follow-up, in both males and females. This paper is an improvement over beta-Nakagami distribution developed by Shittu and Adepoju （2013）. Here we propose the addition of one parameter to the two parameter continuous Nakagami-m distribution （Nakagami, 1960） that was designed for modeling the fading of radio signals. The resulting distribution referred to as Exponentiated Nakagami （ENAK） distribution is a generalization of the classical Nakagami distribution. The statistical properties of the proposed distribution such as moments, moment generating function, the asymptotic behavior among others were investigated. The method of maximum likelihood is used to estimate the model parameters and the observed information matrix is derived. A real data set is used to compare the new model with the class of Nakagami distributions. our findings showed that the Exponentiated Nakagami distribution is more flexible than beta-Nakagami distribution with better representation and less computational effort.

Populus tremuloides (quaking aspen) is found from the Pacific to the Atlantic ocean in the northern United States and Canada, and at higher elevations in the western United States and northern Mexico. While P. tremuloides can reproduce sexually or asexually, it is primarily a clonal species in the intermountain west, reproducing vegetatively via root sprouts, yielding genetically identical stems or ramets. In west Texas, isolated, outlier stands occur in the Guadalupe, Davis, and Chisos Mountains at an elevation of approximately 2300 m. This study utilized seven microsatellites or simple sequence repeats (SSRs) to examine leaf samples from 10 widely separated stems in 10 isolated P. tremuloides individual stands within the Davis Mountains to determine the level of clonal and genetic diversity. We then examined differentiation among stands. Each stem sampled within a stand was genetically identical to all stems examined in that stand or was part of a clone. There were eight genetically identical clones from these ten stands, with three stands being genetically identical or part of the same clone. Many of the genotypes shared several of the same alleles and the remaining alleles were only a few base pairs apart. Some of these alleles have been previously identified in other western North American P. tremuloides stands. Microsatellites identified several triploid patterns consistent with possible aneuploidy, which is concurrent with previous studies.

This paper presents the use of differential transformation method (DTM), an approximating technique for solving linear higher order boundary value problems. Using DTM, approximate solutions of order seven and eight boundary value problems were developed. Approximate results are given for some examples to illustrate the efficiency and accuracy of the method. The results from this method are compared with the exact solutions.

Al-20Si-5Fe melt was rapidly solidified into particles and ribbons and then consolidated to near full density by hot pressing at 400℃/250 MPa/1 h. According to the eutectic-growth and dendritic-growth velocity models, the solidification front velocity and the amount of undercooling were estimated for the particles with different sizes. Values of 0.43-1.2 cm/s and 15-28 K were obtained. The secondary dendrite arm spacing revealed a cooling rate of 6 × 10^5 K/s for the particles with an average size of 20 μm. Solidification models for the ribbons yielded a cooling rate of 5 × 10^7 K/s. As a result of the higher cooling rate, the melt-spun ribbons exhibited considerable microstructural refinement and modification. The size of the primary silicon decreased from approximately 1μm to 30 nm while the formation of iron-containing intermetallic compounds was suppressed. Supersaturation of the aluminum matrix in an amount of-7 at.% Si was noticed from the XRD patterns During the hot consolidation process, coarsening of the primary silicon particles and precipitation of β-Al5FeSi phase were observed. Evaluation of the compressive strength and hardness of the alloy indicated an improvement in mechanical properties due to the microstructural modification.

This study modeled the relationship between Sludge Filtration Resistance (SFR) and Capillary Suction Time (CST) using the data generated from different concentrations of CaCl2 for SFR and CST empirically using the Equation proposed by Christensen et al. (1993). The main purpose of conducting CST and SRF tests at wastewater treatment plants is to save operating costs by evaluating the optimal dose of the sludge conditioner, known as the dose of coagulant that yields the minimal capillary suction time or resistance to filtration. In order to establish a relationship between the SFR with CST, there is a relatively good correlation between CST and SFR. The results showed that the values of CST decreased with increasing CaCl2 concentration, and a good dewaterability could be obtained at the CaCl2 dosage of 18 g with the corresponding CST of 5.52 s for 20 mm internal cylinder and 30.84 s for 14.5 mm internal cylinder. The results of SFR tests shown decreased with an increase in CaCl2 dosage. The optimal CaCl2 dosage was 18 g and the corresponding SFR was 2.65 × 108 N·s/m5. The results of this study for CST recommend larger diameter cylinder to be used to test heavy sludge because the larger cylinder significantly reduces the variability and the time taken to conduct the CST tests.

BACKGRoUND Many authorities advocate for Whipple’s procedures to be performed in highvolume centers,but many patients in poor developing nations cannot access these *** sought to determine whether clinical outcomes were acceptable when Whipple’s procedures were performed in a low-volume,resource-poor setting in the West *** To study outcomes of Whipple’s procedures in a pancreatic unit in the West Indies over an eight-year period from June 1,2013 to June 30,*** This was a retrospective study of all patients undergoing Whipple’s procedures in a pancreatic unit in the West Indies over an eight-year period from June 1,2013 to June 30,*** This center performed an average of 11.25 procedures per *** were 72 patients in the final study population at a mean age of 60.2 years,with 52.7%having American Society of Anesthesiologists scores≥III and 54.1%with Eastern Cooperative oncology Group scores≥*** Whipple’s procedures were performed in 70 patients and laparoscopic assisted procedures in *** vein resection/reconstruction was performed in 19(26.4%)*** patients undergoing open procedures there was 367±54.1 min mean operating time,1394±656.8 mL mean blood loss,5.24±7.22 d mean intensive care unit stay and 15.1±9.53 d ***(8.3%)patients experienced minor morbidity,10(14%)major morbidity and there were 4(5.5%)*** This paper adds to the growing body of evidence that volume alone should not be used as a marker of quality for patients requiring Whipple’s *** volume centers in resource poor nations can achieve good short-term *** is largely due to the process of continuous,adaptive learning by the entire hospital.
