A steel dual-core self-centering brace （DC-SCB） is an innovative structural member that provides both energy dissipation and self-centering properties to structures, reducing maximum and residual drifts of structures in earthquakes. The axial deformation capacity of the DC-SCB is doubled by a parallel arrangement of two inner cores, one outer box and two sets of tensioning elements. This paper presents cyclic test results of a DC-SCB component and a full- scale one-story, one-bay steel frame with a DC-SCB. The DC-SCB that was near 8 m-long was tested to evaluate its cyclic behavior and durability. The DC-SCB performed well under a total of three increasing cyclic loading tests and 60 low- cycle fatigue loading tests without failure. The maximum axial load of the DC-SCB was near 1700 kN at an interstory drift of 2.5%. moreover, a three-story dual-core self-centering braced frame （DC-SCBF） with a single-diagonal DC-SCB was designed and its first-story, one-bay DC-SCBF subassembly specimen was tested in multiple earthquake-type loadings. The one-story, one-bay subassembly frame specimen performed well up to an interstory drift of 2% with yielding at the column base and local buckling in the steel beam; no damage of the DC-SCB was found after all tests. The maximum residual drift of the DC-SCBF caused by beam local buckling was 0.5% in 2.0% drift cycles.

Background: Hypothermic preservation of boar semen is considered a potential method for omitting antibiotics from insemination doses, thereby contributing to the global antibiotic resistance defence strategy. The main challenges are chilling injury to spermatozoa and bacterial growth during semen storage leading to reduced ***: To examine chilling injury and the number and type of bacteria in boar semen stored at 5 ℃ in the absence of antibiotics, and to assess the applicability of hypothermic semen storage under field *** and methods: Boar ejaculates were extended with AndroStar~? Premium, stored at 17 ℃ with and at 5 ℃ without antibiotics and tested for functional sperm parameters by flow cytometry. Raw semen and extended samples were investigated bacteriologically. Fertility was evaluated after once-daily inseminations of 194 sows in a field ***: Lethal sperm damage assessed by motility and membrane integrity was low throughout storage in both experimental groups. Sublethal chilling effects based on the decrease of viable spermatozoa with low membrane fluidity were higher(P m stored at 5 ℃ compared to 17 ℃ but did not differ after 144 *** 72 h, incubation in capacitating medium for 60 min induced a similar decrease in viable sperm with high mitochondria membrane potential and low cytosolic calcium in both groups. Supercapacitors(SCs) are high-power energy storage devices with ultra-fast charge/discharge *** using concentrated aqueous-based electrolytes can work at low temperatures due to their intrinsic properties, such as higher freezing point depression(FPD) and robustness. Besides the traditional organic-and aqueous-based(salt-in-water) electrolytes used in SCs, water-in-salt(WISE) sodium perchlorate electrolytes offer high FPD, non-flammability, and low-toxicity conditions, allowing the fabrication of safer, environmentally friendly, and more robust devices. For the first time, this work reports a comprehensive study regarding WISE system’s charge-storage capabilities and physicochemical properties under low-temperature conditions(T mesoporous carbon-based electrodes. The effect of temperature reduction on the electrolyte viscosity and electrical properties was investigated using different techniques and the in-situ(or operando) Raman spectroscopy under dynamic polarization *** cell voltage, equivalent series resistance, and specific capacitance were investigated as a function of the temperature. The cell voltage(U) increased ~ 50%, while the specific capacitance decreased ~20%when the temperature was reduced from 25 ℃ to -10 ℃. As a result, the maximum specific energy(E = CU^(2)/2) increased ~ 100%. Therefore, low-temperature WISEs are promising candidates to improve the energy-storage characteristics in SCs.

In this Letter, a refractive index measurement of a dielectric sample using highly focused radially polarized light is reported. Through imaging analysis of the optical field at the pupil plane of a high numerical aperture （NA） objective lens reflected by the sample under study, the Brewster angle is found. Employing a high NA objective lens allows the measurement of multiple angles of incidence from 0° to 64° in a single shot. The refractive index of the sample is estimated using the measured Brewster angle. The experimental results are compared with the theoretical images computed with the Fresnel theory, and a good agreement is obtained.

Whole-genome duplications(WGDs)are regarded as important drivers of macroevolution in plants(Clark and Donoghue,2018).However,there are few studies that test a connection between WGDs and evolutionary *** proper study of evolutionary patterns related to WGDs needs a well-resolved phylogeny,accurate dates of the WGD events,and historical reconstructions of the evolutionary novelties(Clark and Donoghue,2018).The advent of exhaustive phylogenomic studies is becoming a promising way to solve these issues,as wholegenome data can help clarify obscure phylogenetic relationships,evaluate patterns associated with WGDs,and track down the evolution of life-history traits that shaped plant lineages(Bellot et al.,2020).

Compressing supercapacitor(SCs)electrode is essential for improving the energy storage characteristics and minimizing ions’distance travel,faradaic reactions,and overall ohmic *** comprising the ion dynamics in SC electrodes under compression are still ***,the ionic dynamics of five aqueous electrolytes in electrodes under compression were studied in this work for tracking electrochemical and structural changes under mechanical stress.A superionic state is formed when the electrode is compressed until the micropores match the dimensions with the electrolyte’s hydrated ion sizes,which increases the *** excessive compression is applied,the accessible pore regions decrease,and the capacitance ***,as the studied hydrated ions have different dimensions,the match between ion/pore sizes *** the LiOH and NaClO4electrolytes,increasing the pressure from 60 to 120 and 100 PSI raised the capacitance from 13.5 to 35.2 F g^(-1)and 30.9 to 39.0 F g^(-1),***,the KOH electrolyte with the lowest and LiCl with the biggest combination of hydrated ion size have their point of maximum capacitance(39.5 and 36.7F g^(-1))achieved at 140 and 80 PSI,*** LiCl and KCl electrolytes,overcompression causes a drop in capacitance higher than 23%.

Rationale: microbial keratitis caused by coinfection with more than one species of pathogens is a severe condition with an unfavorable prognosis. Patient concerns: An immunocompetent Nepali woman complained of pain in the left eye, redness, watering and decreased vision for 5 months. Interventions: The patient was discarded and accurately diagnosed with coinfection with Fusarium sp. and Acanthamoeba sp. The habit of washing the eyes with tap water from a domestic storage tank was the most likely source of infection since it was found to be contaminated with cysts of Acanthamoeba sp. The woman received eye drops of fluconazole and natamycin(5%), cefazoline(50 mg/m L), atropine, and tablets of itraconazole(100 mg), which were later switched to eye drops of clotrimazole(1%), natamycin(5%) and voriconazole(1%), and tablets of itraconazole. A full thickness penetrating keratoplasty was performed followed by treatment with eye drops of voriconazole(1%), natamet(5%), ofloxacin, atropine and carboxymethylcellulose for one ***: After treatment, the condition of the patient significantly improved and was discharged one week after keratoplasty. Lessons: This is the first report of Acanthamoeba keratitis in Nepal and the first report of coinfection with Fusarium in this country and highlights the importance of early diagnosis of microbial keratitis both in single microorganism infections and coinfections, even in no contact lens wearers.

Aims Dispersal through space or time via dormancy is one of the primary processes whereby organisms can influence the environment they *** plants,strong evolutionary correlations are expected between the two kinds of dispersal because both are performed by the seeds and play comparable adaptive *** this paper,we investigated these evolutionary correlations using amphicarpic plants,which simultaneously produce aerial seeds with high spatial dispersal propensity and subterranean seeds that do not *** We investigated the variation in dormancy and germination in aerial and subterranean seeds of two amphicarpic legumes(Vicia amphicarpa *** Lathyrus amphicarpos L.)and two closely related homocarpic taxa(Vicia sativa *** Lathyrus cicera L.)by estimating germination percentages following different combinations of dormancy breaking treatments(*** after-ripening,cold stratification and physical scarification).Important Findings Our results showed complex interactions between spatial and temporal *** after dispersal,aerial seeds were more dormant than their subterranean counterparts,but this trend reversed with after-ripening,as seeds developed physical *** of homocarpic plants germinated at higher percentages than those of their amphicarpic congeners and lost dormancy homogeneously with ***,amphicarpic seeds exhibited varied dormancy strategies modulated by both physiological and physical *** are expected to increase variation in emergence timing,providing multiple levels of diversifying *** strategy might be adaptive under highly unpredictable conditions by enabling plants to rely on historically favorable sites in good seasons without preventing spatial and temporal migration.
