Bond Strength of Brackets Bonded with Chemically and Light Activated materials after Thermal Cycling

The aim of this study was to evaluate the bond strength of orthodontic brackets bonded to tooth enamel with different polymer composites after simulated clinical aging, and analyze the enamel/ bond system fracture interface. 80 human premolars, were randomly divided into five groups (n = 16). G1: CO (Concise Ortodontica—3m ESPE), G2: SB (SuperBond—Ortho Source), G3: FmO (Fill magic Ortodontico—Vigodent), G4: TXT (Transbond XT—3m ESPE) and G5: TP (Transbond Plus Self Etching Primer + Transbond Plus Color Change—3m ESPE). In all groups, the metal orthodontic bracket was bonded to the tooth enamel surface. The specimens were submitted to 3000 thermal cycling baths for 30 s, at temperatures of 5°C, 37°C and 55°C (±1°C). Afterwards they were subjected to shear testing and the results were analyzed by the Student’s-t test (p G5 > G2 > G3. In all groups the majority of the fractures at the interface of the specimens were cohesive, except in G3, which presented the largest number of adhesive fractures. After clinical aging, the chemically activated material (CO) showed higher bond strength than the light activated types (FmO, TXT and TP). The self-etching adhesive system (TP) showed similar bond strength to that of conventional systems (FmO and TXT).

Influence of High Dilutions of Cina for the Control of meloidogyne incognita in Tomato Plants

Considering the importance of the tomato crop and the high costs for controlling meloidogyne incognita with resistant cultivar or nematicides, it is necessary for the search of new alternatives to manage the root-knot disease. The homeopathy may be an alternative way of control, by inducing plant resistance. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of the homeopathic product Cina at dynamizations 12, 24, 50, 100, 200, and 400 CH (centesimal hahnemanian dilutions) on the number of root galls, eggs and second-stage juveniles (J2) present in the roots of tomato and soil, as well on the growth of tomato plants. The Cina demonstrated effectiveness in stimulating root development, once the results of root volume were higher in homeopathic treatments than those in the control. Cina 100 CH also favored the growth of the stalk diameter of the plants. However, the homeopathic product showed no nematostatic nor nematicide effects. The potentized Cina is capable to induce tomato growth besides the presence of m. incognita infecting the roots, with no nematotoxic effects.

Functional and Structural Arterial Vessel Features of Female Patients with Stable Dermatomyositis and Antisynthetase Syndrome

Introduction: Dermatomyositis (Dm) and antisynthetase syndrome (ASS) show a high frequency of metabolic syndrome, which can be preceded by endothelial dysfunction and arterial stiffness. To date, only one study has evaluated these vessel parameters in Dm, and no study of ASS exists. Therefore, the aim of the study was to assess the structural and functional arterial of arterial vessels in Dm and ASS. methods: This cross-sectional study enrolled 21 adult female patients (14 Dm and 7 ASS) who were age-, gender- and ethnicity-matched to 12 healthy individuals. Patients using lipid lowering agents or prednisone at doses ≥ 0.25 mg/kg/day, and patients with uncontrolled systemic arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, cardiac insufficiency, and disease activity were excluded. Arterial stiffness was evaluated using carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (PWV), and endothelial function was evaluated using dependent flow-mediated dilatation (FmD) of the brachial artery. Results: The mean age of patients with Dm or ASS were 45.4 ± 8.6 and 44.0 ± 6.1 years, respectively (P = 1.000), and patients were predominantly of white ethnicity. Six Dm patients and three ASS patients had systemic arterial hypertension, whereas 9 Dm patients and six ASS patients had dyslipidemia. Endothelial baseline diameter, hyperemia diameter and FmD values were similar among the three groups (P > 0.05). moreover, the median FmD values were also similar between the patients with Dm and patients with ASS [8.3% (4.5% - 10.9%) vs. 6.0% (−1.8% - 8.2%);P = 0.585]. The PWV values were comparable among the three groups (P = 0.253). In addition, no difference was observed between patients with Dm and patients with ASS (7.4 ± 0.8 m/s vs. 7.4 ± 0.9 m/s;P = 1.000). Conclusions: Despite the high prevalence of dyslipidemia and systemic arterial hypertension, our female patients with stable Dm and ASS had FmD and PWV values comparable to those of the control group.

Hepatitis delta virus(HDV) seems to strongly suppress hepatitis B virus(HBV)replication, although little is known about the mechanism of this interaction. Both these viruses show a dynamic distribution of mutants, resulting in viral quasispecies. Next-generation sequencing is a viable approach for analyzing the composition of these mutant spectra. As the regulatory hepatitis B X protein(HBx) is essential for HBV replication, determination of HBV X gene(HBX)quasispecies complexity in HBV/HDV infection compared to HBV monoinfection may provide information on the interactions between these two *** To compare HBV quasispecies complexity in the HBX 5' region between chronic hepatitis delta(CHD) and chronic HBV mono-infected *** Twenty-four untreated patients were included: 7/24(29.2%) with HBeAgnegative chronic HBV infection(CI, previously termed inactive carriers), 8/24(33.3%) with HBeAg-negative chronic hepatitis B(CHB) and 9/24(37.5%) with CHD. A serum sample from each patient was first tested for HBV DNA *** HBX 5' region [nucleotides(nt) 1255-1611] was then PCR-amplified for subsequent next-generation sequencing(miSeq, Illumina, United States). HBV quasispecies complexity in the region analyzed was evaluated using incidencebased indices(number of haplotypes and number of mutations), abundancebased indices(Hill numbers of order 1 and 2), and functional indices(mutation frequency and nucleotide diversity). In this work, the crystal structure of titanium dioxide was studied, and the effect of the different synthesis routes on the microstructure and morphology of the nanostructures was analyzed. Samples characterization was carried out by X-ray diffraction by powders (XRD) to determine the different crystalline phases contented in the samples and using scanning electron microscopy (SEm), the morphology and topology of all samples were studied. XRD results were analyzed through Eva provided by Bruker to determine the average crystallite size. The results portrayed here showed that all the synthesis process produced anatase nanostructures with an average crystallite size smaller than 27 nm. Synthesized powders presented similar morphologies in all cases and they were homogeneous in their chemical composition.

Emotions and Stressing Situations Adaptation of Nursing Students in the New Normality

Background: New normality is uncertain in every sense, specifically in education and for many health disciplines. Being immersed in COVID-19 pandemics brought serious consequences for mental health, and is very important to handle emotions and stress coping strategies to obtain positive outcomes. Objective: To identify the most frequent emotions, as well as the adaptation strategies to the new normality faced by the students of nursing. methods: Qualitative and phenomenological research, with the participation of 20 students from both genders in the middle term of nursing career at Faculty of Higher Studies Iztacala, National Autonomous University of mexico, from August to November 2021. Information was collected from a focal group for ten sessions;analysis was according to De Souza minayo, and there was a signed informed consent letter from participants. Results: Four categories emerged with sub-categories. Category I maximized emotions. Sub-categories: 1) Frustration, anger, disappointment;2) Personal disappointment, hopelessness, uncertainty;3) Depression. Category II Support elements close to the new normality. Sub-categories: 1) Family communication;2) Education for mental and physical health. Category III Stressing situations that exceeded the student. Sub-category: Disease in lovely ones. Category IV Stress coping strategies. Sub-categories: 1) Friends and relatives that help to get better;2) Family values. Informers pointed out to have maximized emotion, and having no self-control on its negative outcomes occurred;in addition, the situation was not favorable at home with several losses of loved ones, as well as a poor economy that threatened students to give up studies. Conclusion: Emotions facing this new normality are very important and should be attended to, their proper handling will result in a new learning of socio-emotional abilities, stress coping strategies development, better adaptation and informed decisions taken.

The Acute and Chronic Effects of Co-Administration of Turmeric and Black Pepper Extracts in Genetic Hypertension

High blood pressure is the main risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, it affects many people worldwide and is a public health problem. This study explored the acute and chronic actions of a mixture of turmeric (95% curcumin) plus black pepper (95% piperine) extracts, in the blood pressure pattern in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) along they age. For the acute study male adult (4 - 7 months old) SHR and their control Wistar Kyoto rats (WKY) were used. A single oral dose of the mixture of turmeric/black pepper extracts (200 mg/2mg, respectively) suspension was administered. Tail-cuff was used to determine blood pressure during 180 min. For the chronic study, young (1-month-old) male SHR and their control WKY rats were fed with standard chow, or standard chow combined with cocoa, or combined with cocoa plus the mixture of turmeric/black pepper extracts;tail-cuff was used to determine blood pressure once a week, along 12 weeks. In a second chronic assay adult (5 months old) male SHR and their control WKY rats were fed with standard chow, or standard chow combined with cocoa, or combined with cocoa plus the mixture of turmeric/black pepper extracts;tail-cuff was used to determine blood pressure once a week, along 12 weeks. In all three studies, a decrease in systolic, diastolic and mean blood pressure was observed, being higher in SHR and negligible in WKY rats. The mixture of turmeric/black pepper extracts showed antihypertensive actions in SHR rats with no effect on WKY rats. The mixture delayed the onset of hypertension in young SHR rats.

Ethnicity has been associated with the incidence of diseases and consequently it is a cornerstone in medical genetic studies. It is mainly important in admixture populations, where the population stratification can produce spurious results that lead to erroneous conclusions. Consequently, population stratification has become one of the most important confounding factors in population-based genetic association studies, especially in Latino populations. Cartagena de Indias is a cosmopolitan city with dissimilar ancestry proportions due to recent miscegenation. This population mainly exhibits African and Amerindian matrilineal ancestries. Nevertheless, important asymmetries in the paternal genetic history related to the complex patterns of migration in the colonial period increase the male genetic diversity in this population. As a result of this recent admixture, population stratification has arisen, where each subpopulation is not equally represented. Consequently, the allele differences between cases and controls could be related with different frequencies among different population strata rather than the association of the genes with the disease. In order to define the patrilineal substructure of the Cartagena’s population, a total of 130 unrelated men were ancestrally studied using 15 Y-STR loci routinely employed in anthropological, forensic and population genetics. Our results show that Cartagena is an admixture population consisting of European (80%), Amerindian (10%) and African ancestries (10%), which are represented by haplogroups R1b and I2a (xI2a1), Q-m242/Q-m3, and E1b1a/E1b1b, respectively. Complex genetic patterns found in Cartagena’s population emphasize the importance to know the genetic variation in order to diminish the inconsistence for future genetic association studies. mycosphaerella areola—The Teleomorph of Ramularia areola of Cotton in Brazil, and Its Epidemiological Significance

While Ramularia leaf blight of cotton caused by Ramularia areola is of top most importance for Brazil, information is lacking regarding the survival mechanism of this pathogen during the cotton-free period. The teleomorph of R. areola is expected to belong to the genus mycosphaerella. In the present study attempts were made to verify occurrence of this teleomorph in the State of mato Grosso, Brazil. Decaying cotton leaves were collected two months after harvest of 2014 from 44 commercial and experimental fields where aerial fungicidal applications were made or not during the crop cycle to control the Ramularia leaf blight. Examination of the decaying cotton leaves revealed presence of abundant sclerotia, spermagonia and ascoma of mycosphaerella sp. intermingled with each other during the cotton-free period in most of the leaf samples. mono-ascospore isolations were obtained from the ascoma and considering their cultural, morphological, pathological and DNA sequence analysis they were identified as mycosphaerella areola. m. areola and R. areola isolates produced similar symptoms under glasshouse inoculations. Reisolation of the pathogen from the symptoms produced by m. areola isolates yielded R. areola. Some cotton leaves showing such symptoms were kept on the soil surface on plastic trays for two months under natural field condition. After this period the decaying leaves showed abundant perithecia identical to their original m. areola. ITS rDNA sequence analyses revealed identical sequences from m. areola and R. areola isolates. Occurrence and the viability of the perfect stage m. areola during the cotton-free period on the left-over stubble from one season to another were interpreted as the survival mechanism of the pathogen and were considered responsible for the Ramularia blight epidemics in the State of mato Grosso. Disease management practices for the State of mato Grosso are discussed. This is the first report about the occurrence of the m. areola in Brazil.

Review of the treatment of liver hydatid cysts

A review was carried out in medline,LILACS and the Cochrane *** database search strategy included the following terms: "hydatid cyst","liver","management","meta-analysis" and "randomized controlled trial".No language limits were used in the literature *** latest electronic search date was the 7th of January *** and exclusion criteria: all relevant studies on the assessment of therapeutic methods for hydatid cysts of the liver were considered for *** from editorials,letters to publishers,low quality review articles and studies done on animals were excluded from ***,well-structured abstracts from relevant articles were selected and accepted for *** forms were designed for data extraction; two investigators entered the data on patient demographics,methodology,recurrence of HC,mean cyst size and number of cysts per *** hundred and fourteen articles were identified using the previously described search *** applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria detailed above,57 articles were selected for final analysis: one meta-analysis,9 randomized clinical trials,5 non-randomized comparative prospective studies,7 non-comparative prospective studies,and 34 retrospective studies(12 comparative and 22 noncomparative).Our results indicate that antihelminthic treatment alone is not the ideal treatment for liver hydatid *** studies in the literature support the effectiveness of radical treatment compared with conservative *** surgery with omentoplasty is effective in preventing postoperative complications.A laparoscopic approach is safe in some *** drainage with albendazole therapy is a safe and effective alternative treatment for hydatid cysts of the *** surgery with preand post-operative administration of albendazole is the best treatment option for liver hydatid cysts due to low recurrence and complication rates.
