Bio-inspired eco-friendly gold nanoparticles were synthesized by a green method using aqueous Plume- ria alba flower extract （PAFE）. The use of 1% and 5% concentrations of PAFE resulted in two different sizes of P. alba gold nanoparticles, PAGNPsl and PAGNPs2, with surface plasmon resonance （SPR） peaks at 552 and 536 nm, respectively. Size-controlled formation of gold nanoparticles was indicated by the SPR shift observed with increasing concentration of PAFE. The accurate size and morphology of PAGNPs I and PAGNPs2 were determined by transmission electron microscope （TEM） analysis is found to be 28 ＋ 5.6 and 15.6 4-3.4 nm, respectively, and those are spherical in shape. The antibacterial activity of PAGNPsl and PAGNPs2 was tested against Escherichia coil; the small-sized PAGNPs2 exhibited better antibacterial activity with a 16-mm zone of inhibition at a concentration of 400 txg/mL. Furthermore, the catalytic activity of PAGNPsl and PAGNPs2 was analyzed on six hazardous dyes; PAGNPs2 exhibited more pro- nounced catalytic activity than PAGNPsl. Among all of the dyes, 4-nitrophenol was most rapidly degraded to 4-aminophenol by PAGNPs2 within 5 min. The mechanism of catalysis in the presence of PAGNPsl and PAGNPs2 can be described as an electron transfer process from donor NaBH4 to an acceptor. The facile green synthesis of such eco-friendly nanoparticles in bulk suggests this method has potential industrial applications.

Concrete members historically have used either pre-stressed steel or steel bars. In recent years there has been an increased interest in the use of fiber reinforced polymer （FRP） materials. However, the flexure behavior of a hybrid system reinforced by the combination of pre-stressed steel and glass fiber reinforced （GFRP） is still relatively unknown. The purpose of this work is to study this. Two slabs of 100 and 150-millimeter thickness, with a span of 2.1 m reinforced with both pre-stressing steel and GFRP were constructed and tested to failure using ACI 318-11 and ACI 440.1 R-15. The concrete had strength of 31 MPa and the slabs were respectively reinforced with 5#4 bars and 3#5 bars. Each slab had 37.41 mm2 prestressing wire with a failure stress of 1722.5 MPa. The experimental flexural strength and deflection of slabs were compared with their respective sizes theoretical slabs. The theoretical slabs were either reinforced with pre-stressed steel or GFRP rebars, or a hybrid system. It was found that the hybrid system produces better results.

The widespread W-(Mo)-Sn-Nb-Ta polymetallic mineralization in Southeast(SE)China is genetically associated with Mesozoic highly fractionated granitic *** rocks have enigmatic mineralogical and geochemical features,making its petrogenesis an intensely debated *** better understand the underlying magma evolution processes,petrography,garnet chemistry and whole-rock major and trace element data are reported for Jurassic highly fractionated granitic rocks and associated microgranite and aplitepegmatite dikes from Macao and compared with coeval similar granitic rocks from nearby areas in SE *** the fact that the most evolved rocks in Macao are garnet-bearing aplite-pegmatite dikes,the existence of coeval two-mica and garnet-bearing biotite and muscovite granites displaying more evolved compositions(e.g.,lower Zr/Hf ratios)indicates that the differentiation sequence reached higher degrees of fractionation at a regional *** crystal fractionation played an important role,late-stage fluid/melt interactions,involving F-rich fluids,imparted specific geochemical characteristics to Macao and SE China highly fractionated granitic rocks such as the non-CHARAC(CHArge-and-RAdius-Controlled)behavior of trace elements,leading,for example,to non-chondritic Zr/Hf ratios,Rare Earth elements(REE)tetrad effects and Nb-Ta enrichment and *** process contributed to the late-stage crystallization of accessory phases only found in these highly evolved *** the latter,two populations of garnet were identified in MGI(Macao GroupⅠ)highly fractionated granitic rocks:small grossular-poor euhedral grains and large grossular-rich skeletal garnet grains with quartz *** first group was mainly formed through precipitation from highly evolved Mn-rich slightly peraluminous melts under low-pressure and relatively low temperature(~700℃)*** of upper crust metasedimentary materials may have contributed as a source of Mn and

Synthetic Time Series Generation Model for Analysis of Power System Operation and Expansion with High Renewable Energy Penetration

The increasing integration of renewable energy sources into current power systems has posed the challenge of adequately representing the statistical properties associated with their variable power generation. In this paper, a novel procedure is proposed to select a proper synthetic time series generation model for renewable energy sources to analyze power system problems. The procedure takes advantage of the objective of the specific analysis to be performed and the statistical characteristics of the available time series. The aim is to determine the suitable model to be used for generating synthetic time series of renewable energy sources. A set of indicators is proposed to verify that the statistical properties of synthetic time series fit the statistical properties of the original data. The proposal can be integrated into systematic tools available for data analysis without compromising the representation of the statistical properties of the original time series. The procedure is tested using real data from the New Zealand power system in a mid-term analysis on integrating wind power plants into the power system. The results show that the proposed procedure reduces the error obtained in analyzing power systems compared with reference models.

Pallid Swifts(Apus pallidus),as other swifts,are birds extremely adapted to an aerial lifestyle,showing unique adaptations that allow them to fly almost *** diet of these non-stopping high-altitudinal aerial birds has been mostly studied through techniques that fail to produce highly resolved prey identifications,and for that have been replaced by molecular techniques,such as DNA *** samples of Pallid Swifts were monthly collected from a colony in the north of Portugal during the breeding *** from the faecal samples was used to sex the birds and to identify the arthropods present in the diet through DNA *** the detected prey items,74 families were identified belonging to 16 orders,with Hymenoptera and Hemiptera being the most frequently *** were seasonal variations in diet richness,composition and prey *** the diet of males and females,although no differences were found between the diet of males and females in terms of composition and richness,there were differences in the size of arthropods preyed by the different sexes,with males feeding on larger *** large seasonal variation in Pallid Swifts’diet during the breeding season is probably a result of spatiotemporal variation in aerial prey,of which swifts likely predate *** no significant differences were detected in diet richness and composition between sexes,the fact that males consumed larger prey may suggest the existence of sexual dietary segregation in this group of *** last,several pest species were found in these swifts’diet,which,if studied through DNA metabarcoding,can be used to monitor small arthropods,including airborne pests.

On February 11,2020,the World Health Organization officially announced the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),as an emerging recent pandemic illness,which currently has approximately taken the life of two million persons in more than 200 ***,clinical,and scientific efforts have focused on searching for new prevention and treatment *** medicine and tissue engineering focused on using stem cells(SCs)have become a promising tool,and the regenerative and immunoregulatory capabilities of mesenchymal SCs(MSCs)and their exosomes have been ***,it has been essential to establishing models to reproduce the viral life cycle and mimic the pathology of COVID-19 to understand the virus's *** fields of pluripotent SCs(PSCs),induced PSCs(iPSCs),and artificial iPSCs have been used for this purpose in the development of infection models or ***,some inconveniences have been declared in SC use;for example,it has been reported that SARS-CoV-2 enters human cells through the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 receptor,which is highly expressed in MSCs,so it is important to continue investigating the employment of SCs in COVID-19,taking into consideration their advantages and *** this review,we expose the use of different kinds of SCs and their derivatives for studying the SARS-CoV-2 behavior and develop treatments to counter COVID-19.

Dear Editor, The PIWI proteins （originally P-element-induced wimpy testis in Drosophila） are predominantly present in the germ-line in diverse organisms and are involved in the processing of a class of small RNAs known as piRNAs （see Refs. for review）. The human PIWI protein family consists of four members： PIWIL1-4. Of these, PIWIL4 is known to have essential roles in the first phases ofspermatogenesis： its expression is restricted to gonocytes and it is required for transposon silencing. The lack of this gene in mice causes meiotic arrest in spermatogenesis.
