Unsteady Couette Flow through a Porous Medium in a Rotating System

An investigation has been made on an unsteady Couette flow of a viscous incompressible fluid through a porous me- dium in a rotating system. The solution of the governing equations has been obtained by the use of Laplace transform technique. It is found that the primary velocity decreases and the magnitude of the secondary velocity increases with an increase in rotation parameter. The fluid velocity components are decelerated by an increase of Reynolds number. An increase in porosity parameter leads to increase the primary velocity and the magnitude of the secondary velocity. It is also found that the solution for small time converges more rapidly than the general solution. The asymptotic behavior of the solution is analyzed for small as well as large values of rotation parameter and Reynolds number. It is observed that a thin boundary layer is formed near the moving plate of the channel and the thicknesses of the boundary layer increases with an increase in porosity parameter.

In the current scenario of rapid expansion of higher education, it becomesimperative to study the dynamic factors underlying quality education,student motivation and learning outcomes. Most of the literature availableas on date are predominantly based on western studies, where theindividual’s personal achievement, autonomy, control, power are consideredto be most important. But these western models often influenced by theirindividualistic philosophy and cultural values are quite inapplicable forpluralistic Indian society, where we believe in collaboration and *** attempts have been made to develop an indigenous model to measurethese attributes in our society. The present study is first of its kind to assessthe salient and non-salient needs of technical students pursuing their studiesin India. Authors have identified measures of the students’ engagement invarious academic, co-curricular activities and their performance outcomes.A sample of Four-hundred and Sixty-five (N=465) engineering/sciencestudents were collected through purposive sampling exclusively from IITKharagpur , a premier technical institute in eastern India where studentsacross the country got selected and joined on merit basis, through thenational level joint entrance examination for Engineering and Science, thetoughest examination in the country, known as IIT-JEE. Career implicationsare discussed in light of the major findings.

Radiation effects on free convection MHD Couette flow started exponentially with variable wall temperature in the presence of heat generation have been studied. The governing equations are solved analytically using the Laplace transform technique. The variations of velocity and fluid temperature are presented graphically. It is observed that the velocity decreases with an increase in either magnetic parameter or radiation parameter or Prandtl number. It is also observed that the velocity increases with an increase in either heat generation parameter or Grashof number or accelerated parameter or time. An increase in either radiation parameter or Prandtl number leads to fall in the fluid temperature. It is seen that the fluid temperature increases with an increase in either heat generation parameter or time. Further, it is seen that the shear stress at the moving plate decreases with an increase in either magnetic parameter or radiation parameter while it increases with an increase in either heat generation parameter or Prandtl number. The rate of heat transfer increases with an increase in either Prandtl number or time whereas it decreases with an increase in heat generation parameter.

A report on infection dynamics of inducible clindamycin resistance of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from a teaching hospital in India

背景全膝关节置换术已成为非常成功的关节重建手术。自首例手术成功以来,手术结果,患者满意度和植入物存活率稳步提高,并且手术已被广泛接受以缓解疼痛,恢复活动范围和功能。在全膝关节置换术的早期,该手术通常提供给活动水平相对久坐的老年组。目的采用传统模具正确安装评估全膝关节置换术中的组件对齐情况,包括:胫骨和股骨组件的内翻、外翻和旋转对齐;术前和术后胫骨后坡和髁后偏斜评估组件对齐和功能结果之间的关系。方法在2018年1月至2019年10月期间进行了一项前瞻性研究。对新乡医学院第一附属医院骨科50例人工全膝关节置换术患者进行临床、功能及影像学评价。随访时间分别为3个月、6个月。这项研究在新乡医学院第一附属医院进行。数据输入microsoftexcel2010,采用配对t检验和卡方检验进行统计学分析。使用SPSS v21进行统计分析。结果所有患者的详细病史均被记录下来。所有患者均采用膝关节社会评分进行临床和功能评估。对所有患者进行术前医学评估,以防止潜在的危及生命或肢体的并发症。对所有病例进行调查,术前控制病情,术前血红蛋白维持在最低12g/L并进行评估。任何肢体长度的差异都被记录下来。评估是否存在髋关节和足部畸形。伸肌机制评估任何股四头肌挛缩。检查膝关节畸形是否有固定的内翻或外翻畸形或是否存在固定的屈曲挛缩。患者年龄在56-60岁之间,占研究的40%。平均年龄57.2岁。本研究以男性为主,男性占60%,女性占40%。在我们的研究中,左侧占优势。在我们的研究中,全膝关节置换最常见的适应症是膝关节骨性关节炎。术前膝关节屈曲平均82.67°,术后膝关节屈曲平均111.67°,p<0.001。术后平均后倾角由7.24°降至3.73°。术前平均后髁偏移量为24mm,增加到27.20mm,p<0.001。术后髁突后偏移量增加与术后膝关节屈曲度增加呈正相关(0.093)。术后膝关节临床评分和功能评分均有明显改善,p值<0.001。胫骨对线范围为84°2°,最多患者数为90°,股骨组件对线范围为外翻2°°,最多患者数为外翻6°。胫骨组件旋转角度从16°到20°,最多患者内旋转角度为18°。股骨组件的旋转对齐范围为1.8°至4°,最多患者内旋转3°。结论股骨髓内模具提供了令人满意的冠状面对齐股骨组件。胫骨髓外定位模具提供了满意的胫骨组件冠状面对齐。

Study of Cardiac Manifestations in Patients with HIV Infection and Their Correlation with CD4 Count in Indian Population

Introduction: With advances in the management of patients living with HIV and AIDS (PLHA), not only survival has increased but manifestations of late stage HIV infection are encountered more often including cardiovascular complications. Aims and Objectives: To determine the prevalence and characteristics of cardiac manifestations in patients with HIV infection and to evaluate their correlation with CD4 count. Materials and Method: 70 consecutive patients with HIV infection admitted to Post Graduate Department of Medicine from the period of July 2010 to August 2011 were studied. All cases of PLHA diagnosed after positive ELISA test for HIV infection were included, whereas those with congenital heart disease, rheumatic heart disease, hypertension, Ischemic heart disease were excluded from the study. CD4 count and 2D echocardiography along with routine investigations were done for all patients. Result: Male to female ratio was 2:1. Echocardiographic abnormalities were seen in 58% of patients. Reduced ejection fraction (below 50%) and fractional shortening below 30% were the most common cardiac abnormality (48.7%) followed by pericardial effusion (17.4%), pulmonary artery hypertension (11.4%), dilated cardiomyopathy (8.5%), diastolic dysfunction (8.5%) and regional wall motion abnormality (1.4%) respectively. Significant statistical positive correlation was observed between low CD4 count and echocardiographic abnormalities (p < 0.0001). Pericardial effusion was seen more in patients with CD4 count below 200 (p < 0.001). Maximum number of echocardiographic abnormalities was seen in WHO clinical stage IV. Conclusions: Cardiac manifestations are frequent PLHA in our population but do not have detectable clinical manifestation. Echocardiographic abnormalities have a strong correlation with low CD4 count and occur more in advanced stage of the disease.

ISSR Fingerprinting to Ascertain the Genetic Relationship of Curcuma sp. of Tripura

Molecular fingerprints of four different species of Curcuma, viz., C. amada, C. caesia, C. longa and C. zedoaria, found in Tripura were developed using Inter Simple Sequence Repeats. Twenty ISSR primers generated 116 loci amplified in the range of 200 - 5000 bp with an average of 5.8 alleles and 1.6 effective alleles per locus. The percentage of polymorphic band was found to be 86.29 with an average of 5.15 per primer. Based on UPGMA algorithm these four species are placed in two different clusters that validate the classification based on external and internal morphological characters. The polymorphic ISSR markers generated from this study will be useful for understanding the genetic relationship of different species of the genus Curcuma.

Compact Metamaterial Microstrip Low-Pass Filter

Complimentary hexagonal-omega structures are used to design compact, low insertion loss (IL), low pass filter with sharp cut-off. It has been designed for improvement of roll-off performance based on both μ and ε negative property of the complimentary hex-omega structure while maintaining the filter pass-band performance. By properly designing and loading the hexagonal-omega structure in the ground of microstrip line not only improve the roll-off of the low pass filter, but also reduced the filter size. The simulated results indicate that the proposed filter achieves a flat pass band with no ripples as well as selectivity of 19.68 dB/GHz, corresponding to 5-unit cells hex-omega structures. This significantly exceeds the 5.6 dB/GHz selectivity of the conventional low pass filter design, due to sub-lambda dimensions of the hex-omega structure. A prototype filter implementing area is: 0.712λg x 0.263λg, λg being the guided wavelength at 3-dB cut-off frequency (fc). The proposed filter has a size smaller by 36.2%.

Prevalence of Diabetes and Dyslipidemia Patterns amongst Hypertensive Patients in a Tertiary Cardiac Centre in Kathmandu, Nepal

Background: Dyslipidemia and hypertension are independent cardiovascular risk factors that are linked by insulin resistance and they require follow-up and more aggressive therapeutic strategies. Hence, the present study was done to study the prevalence of Diabetes and Dyslipidemia patterns in hypertensive patients. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was done on patients with hypertension for duration of one year, i.e. from Feb 2022 to January 2023. A total of 726 hypertensive Patients were included. All calculations and statistical analyses were processed by SPSS 25.0. Results: A Total of 726 patients with a history of hypertension were included;the average age was 55, with 24.2% of patients belonging to the age group 51 - 60;55.8% were males and 44.2% were females. In the present study, the prevalence of diabetes was 29.06% and 35.5% of patients in the prediabetic stage. The most frequent dyslipidaemic form was reduced HDL, seen in 96.1% and 94% of new and old respectively;followed by elevated LDL, 86% and 48.2% in new and old respectively. It was followed by elevated TG level and Total cholesterol levels. Conclusion: There was a high prevalence of diabetes, pre-diabetes as well as dyslipidemia in hypertensive patients.
