Prime Energy Challenges for Operating Power Plants in the GCC

There is a false notion of existing available, abundant, and long lasting fuel energy in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Countries;with continual income return from its exports. This is not true as the sustainability of this income is questionable. Energy problems started to appear, and can be intensified in coming years due to continuous growth of energy demands and consumptions. The demands already consume all produced Natural Gas (NG) in all GCC, except Qatar;and the NG is the needed fuel for Electric Power (EP) production. These countries have to import NG to run their EP plants. Fuel oil production can be locally consumed within two to three decades if the current rate of consumed energy prevails. The returns from selling the oil and natural gas are the main income to most of the GCC. While NG and oil can be used in EP plants, NG is cheaper, cleaner, and has less negative effects on the environment than fuel oil. Moreover, oil has much better usage than being burned in steam generators of steam power plants or combustion chambers of gas turbines. Introducing renewable energy or nuclear energy may be a necessity for the GCC to keep the flow of their main income from exporting oil. This paper reviews the GCC productions and consumptions of the prime energy (fuel oil and NG) and their role in electric power production. The paper shows that, NG should be the only fossil fuel used to run the power plants in the GCC. It also shows that the all GCC except Qatar, have to import NG. They should diversify the prime energy used in power plants;and consider alternative energy such as nuclear and renewable energy, (solar and wind) energy.

Development of Hybrid MPPT Algorithm for Maximum Power Harvesting under Partial Shading Conditions

In this paper, a Hybrid MPPT algorithm is proposed to improve the efficiency of photovoltaic (PV) systems under partial shading conditions. Partial shading occurs due to clouds, trees, dirt and dust in PV systems. In partial shading, multiple peaks arise in the PV characteristic curve. The Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm adjusts the duty cycle of the switch in DC-DC converter for regulating the input voltage at the Maximum power point (MPP) and to provide impedance matching i.e. input resistance of converter equal to equivalent solar resistance of PV system at MPP for the maximum power transfer. The Cuk converters have low switching losses and the highest efficiency. Therefore Cuk converter is chosen as power conditioning circuit to trackmaximum power using Hybrid MPPT technique. The influence of algorithm parameters on system behaviour is investigated and the various advantages and drawbacks of the technique are identified for different weather conditions. Practical results obtained using Solartech SPMO85P PV modules connected to a RL load through Hybrid MPPT controller validates the simulated results.

Modeling of Radon and Its Short-Lived Decay Products during Showering: Dose to Adult Members of the Public

Human exposure to radon inside different parts of the house has become a great concern. In this study, the distribution of radon and its decay inside the shower will be numerically investigated. In fact, the radon concentration in water is measured through the use of AlphaGUARD. They are used as an input for CFD simulation. The numerical results proved that temperature and humidity have significant impacts on both radon content and distribution. Also, the equilibrium factor variations between radon and its progeny with the temperature and relative humidity were carefully looked at. The equivalent doses due to 218Po and 214Po were evaluated in different tissues of the respiratory tract of the members of the public from the inhalation of air inside the shower. The annual effective dose due to radon short lived decay from the inhalation of air inside the shower by the members of the public was also investigated.

The utility solar power plants were reviewed and classified by two basic groups: direct thermal concentrating solar power (CSP) and photovoltaic (PV). CSP as Parabolic Trough Collector (PTC) of 100 MW solar power plants (SPP) is suggested and suitable to provide solar thermal power for Qatar. Although, LFC had enough experience for small projects, it is still need to work in large scale plant such as 100 MW and couple with multi effect distillation (MED) to confirm costs.

The Prevalence of Impacted Maxillary Canines in a Palestinian Population: A Retrospective Study

Objective: This study aims to estimate the prevalence of impacted maxillary canines using panoramic radiographs. Methods: A sample of 1321 panoramic radiographs were retrospectively examined for the presence of impacted maxillary canines. The radiographs were obtained from the records of a private dental clinic from the year 2009 till 2016. Results: The prevalence of impacted canines among the examined population (n = 1321) was found to be 1.8%. There was a significant association between gender and canine impaction (P 0.05) difference in the prevalence of right or left canine impaction was found. Conclusion: The prevalence of impacted maxillary canines (1.8%) in this study was within the range reported among other populations.

Q-switched pulse generation with lutetium oxide absorber

A lutetium oxide(Lu_(2)O_(3)) film was proposed and demonstrated for Q-switching operation at 1.55 μm region. It was obtained by solving Lu_(2)O_(3) powder into isopropyl alcohol and mixing the solution into polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) solution to form a composite precursor solution via stirring, sonicating, and centrifuging processes. The thin film was formed through a drop and dry process and a small piece of this film was integrated into erbium-doped fiber laser(EDFL) cavity to modulate the cavity loss via Q-switching mechanism for pulse generation. The Q-switched laser operated at 1 565 nm with the repetition rate of 75.26 k Hz as the pump power was raised to the maximum value of 145.83 m W. The maximum pulse energy of 41.85 n J was recorded at 145.83 m W pump power. The mode-locked pulse operated at 968.5 k Hz with a pulse width of 510 ns was also realized in an extended EDFL cavity. The simple and cost-effective laser should have various applications including material processing, sensing and biomedical areas.

当前的网络应用主要是基于UDP和TCP协议进行通信,在某些场景下,传统的TCP/IP传输网络已经不能完全满足网络服务质量要求,因此有必要开发一种新的机制,使得用户能够在不同网络环境下充分利用网络资源并且提高网络性能。流控制传输协议(SCTP)的提出为我们提供了改善网络性能的新方法。SCTP继承了 TCP/UDP以及各种主流改进协议版本的所有功能,并弥补了它们的一些不足。SCTP主要的特点之一是具有多宿主特性,允许关联的网络端口绑定多个网络地址,这种绑定允许数据通过不同路径从发送端发送到接收端。由于SCTP具有多宿主特性,从而使得SCTP传输网络能够通过有效的故障路径切换机制来提高网络的鲁棒性。由于SCTP相比TCP具有许多新的特性,使用SCTP取代TCP来承载网络的端到端传输业务已经成为众多科研工作者的研究热点。SCTP主要是基于IP网络,其多宿主特性也依赖于多个IP地址。但是IP网络本身是一种单路径网络,它所能提供的多路径通信效果有限,从而使得IP网络环境下的SCTP协议的性能受到限制。向量网络VN是一种新型的数据通信网络,它采用向量地址,该协议对应于OSI模型的第三层,即网络层。向量网络使用一种被称为向量地址的新的交换方式,向量网提出了"向量连接"和"向量交换"两个概念,并且基于向量地址根据网络的社会属性来设计网络。向量网络具有分形结构的特点,并且交换地址和标识地址分离开来。理论上,与ATM网络、IP网络相比,向量网具有良好的安全性、保证Qos、地址无限扩展、交换设备简单、网络可操作性等优点。向量网络安全、可靠、可控制,并且保证网络Qos承载和业务独立,它是在研究下一代网络背景下产生的一种全新的网络体系。相比IP网络,向量网具有的多路径特性决定了其能更好的支持多路径传输。向量网络是一种新型的网络,它不同于目前的IP网络和其他类型的网络。向量网络具有许多不同的优点,这得益于它使用被称为向量地址的特殊交换方式。与IP网络相比,向量网更多的是面向有连接服务。因为向量网是有连接网络,所以能够保证Qos。向量网具有无限多址性、良好的安全性、轻连接等众多优点,本文中,我们改进了向量网环境下SCTP多路径传输对单点故障的抵抗性能。VN(向量网络)对应于OSI模型的第三层网络层,它属于信息网络中低层的数据通信网络,并不包括高层的应用程序的网络内容。借助于向量网络的地址编码方法和数据通信方法建立向量连接,设计基于向量地址的分形结构的新的网络通信技术。向量网提出向量连接和向量切换的概念,基于向量地址,根据网络的社会属性设计网络。向量网具有分形体系结构,还具有交换地址与标识地址相分离的特点。向量网使用一种被称为向量地址的方式进行地址交换,向量地址具有无限多值性、不可解读、可加密、相对地址、有效性、地址长度不定和包含路由信息等诸多优点。因此,在数据传输方面,与IP网络和ATM网络等主流网络相比,向量网具有以下优点:安全性更高、网络简单、适应性强、效率更高。向量网的网络地址是按照数据面和控制面相分离的原则来设计的,数据的交换依据数据面的网络地址来完成,而网络中各个节点的标识则通过控制面的网络地址来实现。数据面的网络地址是用二进制形式来表示的向量地址;控制面的网络地址被设计为字符串形式的地址,类似于Internet网域名树。为满足向量网的设计需求,这两种网络地址都是具有分形特征的。向量地址是一种承载交换路由信息、长度可变的网络地址。向量地址是相对地址,不能说"某个目的设备的向量地址是多少",而只能说"从某个源端设备到目的设备的向量地址是多少"。换句话说,在向量网络地址编码情况下,目的设备是由源端设备和向量地址这两个因素决定的,地址给定,再给定源端设备,目的设备才能确定。一个向量地址如果没有源端设备作为参考,它就不能寻址找到目的设备,没有意义。源端设备向目的设备发送数据时,在数据中只要包含向量地址信息即可,不需要包含信源设备名称,源端设备名称信息隐含确定,就是数据的发送者,不需要给定。本文分析了向量网络的特点,介绍了研究建立全球网络的向量网平均地址长度的相关复杂网络理论和理论分析方法。通过进行实际网络拓扑模型仿真实验,向量网络得到验证。结果表明,相比于目前的IP网络等主流网络,向量网络不仅更加单、更安全、更具可扩展性,而且还可以容纳更多的用户。本文介绍了向量网的相关理论架构,包括向量网的地址编码方式、向量包格式定义、向量交换方法、向量网的数据面以及向量连接的建立,分析了向量网的特点。总之,无论是从设计思想、传输方式,还是网络的Qos、安全性能方面,向量网与现有的网络体系相比都有着根本的区别。本文分析了 SCTP协议的架构、特性,介绍了当前IP网络环境下的SCTP协议功能的不足之处。在此基础上,结合向量网的无限多值性、安全性、轻连接等优势,提出了向量网支

Histological difference in ligament flavum between degenerative lumbar canal stenosis and non-stenotic group:A prospective,comparative study

BACKGROUND Ligament flavum(LF)hypertropy is the main etiopathogenesis of lumbar canal stenosis(LCS).The purely elastic LF undergoes a morphological adaptation including a reduction in the elastic fibers and a consequent increase in the collagen content,fibrosis,cicatrization,and ***,the morphometric analysis can delineate the LF in patients with LCS from those without LCS,which would help in better understanding LCS *** To compare the histopathological changes in LF between the degenerative LCS and non-stenotic(non-LCS)*** The present prospective study was conducted in 82 patients who were divided into two groups,namely LCS and *** details of the patients such as duration of symptoms,level of involvement,and number of segments were *** LF obtained from both groups was histopathologically examined for the fibrosis score,elastic fiber degeneration,calcification,and chondroid *** details included a change in elastin and collagen percentages,elastin/collagen ratio,elastic fiber fragmentation,and ligamentocyte *** parameters were compared between the two groups by using the independent t test,Chi-square test,and Pearson’s correlation *** Out of 82 cases,74 were analysed,34 in LCS and 40 in non-LCS *** mean±SD age of presentation in LCS and non-LCS group was 49.2±8.9 and 43.1±14.3 *** LCS group(n=34)exhibited significant differences in fibrosis(P=0.002),elastic fiber degeneration(P=0.01),%elastic fragmentation(66.5±16.3 vs 29.5±16.9),%elastic,content(26.9±6.7 vs 34.7±8.4),%collagen content(63.6±10.4 vs 54.9±6.4),reduction of elastic/collagen(0.4±0.1 vs 0.6±0.1),and ligamentocyte number(39.1±19.1 vs 53.5±26.9)as compared to non-LCS group(n=40).The calcification(P=0.08)and Pearson’s correlation between duration and loss of elastin was not *** difference in LF morphology is consistent in patient’s≥40 years of age among the groups as found in
