From single to combinatorial therapies in spinal cord injuries for structural and functional restoration

Spinal cord injury results in paralysis, sensory disturbances, sphincter dysfunction, and multiple systemic secondary conditions, most arising from autonomic dysregulation. All this produces profound negative psychosocial implications for affected people, their families, and their communities;the financial costs can be challenging for their families and health institutions. Treatments aimed at restoring the spinal cord after spinal cord injury, which have been tested in animal models or clinical trials, generally seek to counteract one or more of the secondary mechanisms of injury to limit the extent of the initial damage. Most published works on structural/functional restoration in acute and chronic spinal cord injury stages use a single type of treatment: a drug or trophic factor, transplant of a cell type, and implantation of a biomaterial. Despite the significant benefits reported in animal models, when translating these successful therapeutic strategies to humans, the result in clinical trials has been considered of little relevance because the improvement, when present, is usually insufficient. Until now, most studies designed to promote neuroprotection or regeneration at different stages after spinal cord injury have used single treatments. Considering the occurrence of various secondary mechanisms of injury in the acute and sub-acute phases of spinal cord injury, it is reasonable to speculate that more than one therapeutic agent could be required to promote structural and functional restoration of the damaged spinal cord. Treatments that combine several therapeutic agents, targeting different mechanisms of injury, which, when used as a single therapy, have shown some benefits, allow us to assume that they will have synergistic beneficial effects. Stress Wave Analysis Based Prognostic Health Management

The stress wave sensor detect and process the electronic signal of friction, mechanical shock and dynamic load on equipment moving parts, the stress wave analysis are fulfilled by using the time domain and frequency domain feature extraction software, Polynomial neural network(PNN) and data fusion technology. The equipment status are quantitatively analyzed, the equipment fault are accurately predicted. Compared with the current adopted other analysis technologies, the system can monitor the operation condition of the equipment better in real-time, predict the fault earlier. The production safety is guaranteed, the equipment maintenance cost is reduced, and the production efficiency is improved.

Patterns of Chromatin-Modifications Discriminate Different Genomic Features in Arabidopsis

Dynamic regulation and packaging of genetic information is achieved by the organization of DNA into chromatin. Nucleosomal core histones, which form the basic repeating unit of chromatin, are subject to various post-translational modifications such as acetylation, methylation, phosphorylation, and ubiquitinylation. These modifications have effects on chromatin structure and, along with DNA methylation, regulate gene *** goal of this study was to determine if patterns in modifications were related to different categories of genomic features, and, if so, if the patterns had predictive value. In this study, we used publically available data（ChIP-chip）for different types of histone modifications（methylation and acetylation） and for DNA methylation for Arabidopsis thaliana and then applied a machine learning based approach（a support vector machine） to demonstrate that patterns of these modifications are very different among different kinds of genomic feature categories（protein, RNA,pseudogene, and transposon elements）. These patterns can be used to distinguish the types of genomic *** methylation and H3K4me3 methylation emerged as features with most discriminative power. From our analysis on Arabidopsis, we were able to predict 33 novel genomic features, whose existence was also supported by analysis of RNA-seq experiments. In summary, we present a novel approach which can be used to discriminate/detect different categories of genomic features based upon their patterns of chromatin modification and DNA methylation.

Autoimmune complications and clinical outcomes of herpes simplex encephalitis in children: A case series

Effect of financial constraints on the growth of family and nonfamily firms in Turkey

This study examined whether family-owned firms have advantages for accessing external financial sources for *** in developing countries with imperfect markets,firms can face difficulties accessing external financing sources;however,family-owned firms might have some advantages in this regard over nonfamily *** previous studies,this study considered that,in the Turkish context,nonfamily firms are financially constrained while family firms are *** examine this hypothesis,we used the generalized method of moments(GMM)approach to analyze panel data from 2006 to *** findings showed that financing constraints were a significant obstacle to growth for nonfamily-owned manufacturing firms while the effect was not present for family firms since they are controlled by large,well-established family *** results elucidate the relationship between corporate ownership and growth among Turkish firms,especially those with strong links to large family-owned *** results also revealed that reputation and network may facilitate easier access to external financing sources,especially when considering the“Big Six”family ties of firms.

Split liver transplantation: Current developments

In 1988, Rudolf Pichlmayr pioneered split liver transplantation(SlT), enabling the transplantation of one donor liver into two recipients-one pediatric and one adult patient. In the same year, Henri Bismuth and colleagues performed the first full right/full left split procedure with two adult recipients. Both splitting techniques were rapidly adopted within the transplant community. However, a SlT is technically demanding, may cause increased perioperative complications, and may potentially transform an excellent deceased donor organ into two marginal quality grafts. Thus, crucial evaluation of donor organs suitable for splitting and careful screening of potential SlT recipients is warranted. Furthermore, the logistic background of the splitting procedure as well as the organ allocation policy must be adapted to further increase the number and the safety of SlT. Under defined circumstances, in selected patients and at experienced transplant centers, SlT outcomes can be similar to those obtained in full organ lT. Thus, SlT is an important tool to reduce the donor organ shortage and waitlist mortality, especially for pediatric patients and small adults. The present review gives an overview of technical aspects, current developments, and clinical outcomes of SlT.

Species of the ciliate class Heterotrichea Stein,1859 are a cosmopolitan group of unicellular eukaryotic microorganisms,many of which have been widely used as models in various fields of research such as regenerative biology,functional ecol-ogy,environmental toxicology,and symbiotic ***,species identification in the heterotrich family Condylos-tomatidae,especially the most species-rich and type genus Condylostoma Bory de Saint-Vincent,1824,remains challenging due to incomplete original descriptions,few reliable distinguishing characters,and overlapping features between different *** study presents an updated revision of Condylostoma and its related genus Condylostomides da Silva Neto,1994 based on descriptions of five species,including nine populations collected from China,using both morphological and molecular *** main findings are as follows:(1)43 nominal species and about 130 populations are reviewed,result-ing in the recognition of 30 valid species of Condylostoma and eight valid species of Condylostomides;(2)keys,synonyms,biogeographic distributions and amended/improved diagnoses of all valid species are provided;(3)based on the available data,four new Condylostoma species(*** ***.,*** ***.,*** ***.,and *** ***.),one new combination(Condylostomides minimus(Dragesco,1954)***.&***.),and two corrected names(Condylostoma ancestrale Villeneuve-Brachon,1940 *** Condylostomides nigrus(Dragesco,1960)***.)are suggested;(4)cryptic species are detected and proposed for the first time to form the Condylostoma curvum spe-cies complex;(5)three highly confusing Condylostoma species,***,***,and ***,are redefined for the first time based on modern taxonomic methods;(6)a‘flagship’species,Condylostomides coeruleus,is recorded for the first time from the continent of Asia,substantially expanding its biogeography;(7)ciliature adjacent to the distal end of the paroral mem
