AIM:To evaluate whether desferrioxamine decreases ischemia and perfusion injury aggravated by cold storage(CS)in a rat liver perfusion model. METHODS:Isolated rat livers were kept in CS in University of Wisconsin Solution for 20 h at 4℃,then exposed to 25 min of warm ischemia(WI)at 37℃ followed by 2 h of warm perfusion(WP)at 37℃with oxygenated(95%oxygen and 5%carbon dioxide) Krebs-Henseleit ***(DFO),an iron chelator,was added at different stages of storage,ischemia and perfusion:in CS only,in WI only,in WP only, in WI and perfusion,or in all *** samples were collected after CS and after *** samples and bile were collected every 30 min(0,0.5,1,1.5 and 2 h)during liver *** injury was assessed by the determination of lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) and aspartate aminotransferase(AST)in the effluent and perfusate *** iron was analysed in the perfusate *** WP,the liver was collected for the determination of liver swelling(wet to dry ratio) and liver morphological examination(hematoxylin and eosin staining). RESULTS:Increased CS time caused increased liver dysfunction during *** 2 h of WP,liver injury was indicated by increased release of AST(0.5 h CS:9.4± 2.2 U/g liver vs 20 h CS:45.9±10.8 U/g liver,P<0.05) and LDH(0.5 h CS:59±14 U/g liver vs 20 h CS:297 ±71 U/g liver,P<0.05).There was an associated increase in iron release into the perfusate(0.5 h CS:0.11 ±0.03μmoL/g liver vs 20 h CS:0.58±0.10μmoL/g liver,P<0.05)and reduction in bile flow(0.5 h CS: 194±12μL/g vs 20 h CS:71±8μL/g liver,P<0.05). Lymphomas are cancers that arise from white blood cells and usually present as solid tumors. Treatment of lymphoma often involves chemotherapy, and can also include radiotherapy and/or bone marrow transplantation. There is an unquestioned need for more effective therapies and diagnostic tool for lymphoma. Aptamers are single stranded DNA or RNA oligonucleotides whose three-dimensional structures are dictated by their sequences. The immense diversity in function and structure of nucleic acids enable numerous aptamers to be generated through an iterative in vitro selection technique known as Systematic Evolution of Ligands by EXponential enrichment (SELEX). Aptamers have several biochemical properties that make them attractive tools for use as potential diagnostic and pharmacologic agents. Isolated aptamers may directly inhibit the function of target proteins, or they can also be formulated for use as delivery agents for other therapeutic or imaging cargoes. More complex aptamer identification methods, using whole cancer cells (Cell-SELEX), may identify novel targets and aptamers to affect them. This review focuses on recent advances in the use of nucleic acid aptamers as diagnostic and therapeutic agents and as targeted delivery carriers that are relevant to lymphoma. Some representative examples are also discussed.

Objective: Establish normative data for tympanic electrocochleography(TM ECoch G) parameters in normal hearing adults without Meniere's disease's(MD) symptoms. Describe TM ECoch G variables that help to distinguish normal from MD *** and methods: We enrolled 100 subjects(N =200 ears), 59 females, aged between 19 and 71 years from 09/2010 to 04/2014. Inclusion criteria: normal otomicroscopy, hearing thresholds≤25 dB nHL from 250 to 4000 Hz, normal tympanogram, no symptoms of MD according to the AAO-HNS 1995 criteria and Gibson's score <7. We excluded subjects with dizziness, aural fullness or other symptoms of endolymphatic hydrops. The following parameters were analyzed: SP/AP amplitude ratio, SP/AP area ratio and the difference between AP latency with rarefaction and condensation ***: There was no significant difference between right and left ears(Intraclass correlation coefficient < 0.6). SP/AP amplitude ratio varied between 0.084 and 0.356 and SP/AP area ratio between 0.837 and 1.671(percentiles 5 and 95). The AP latency difference to rarefaction and condensation clicks was between 0.0 and 0.333 ***: Normative data for TM ECoch G parameters were established in 100 normal hearing subjects without MD. These data can be used to distinguish normal from pathological findings and in follow-up of MD patients.

AIM: To evaluate the prevalence of john Cunningham virus(JC virus) in a small cohort of patients with colon cancer and to assess its presence in hepatic ***: Nineteen consecutive patients with histologically diagnosed colon cancer were included in our study, together with ten subjects affected by histologically and serologically diagnosed hepatitis C virus infection. In the patients included in the colon cancer group, JC virus was searched for in the surgical specimen; in the control group, JC virus was searched for in the hepatic biopsy. The difference in the prevalence of JC virus in the hepatic biopsy between the two groups was assessed through the χ2 ***: Four out of 19 patients with colon cancer had a positive polymerase chain reaction(PCR) test for JC virus, and four had liver metastasis. Among the patients with liver metastasis, three out of four had a positive PCR test for JC virus in the surgical specimen and in the liver biopsy; the only patient with liver metastasis with a negative test for JC virus also presented a negative test for JC virus in the surgical specimen. In the control group of patients with hepatitis C infection, none of the ten patients presented JC virus infection in the hepatic biopsy. The difference between the two groups regarding JC virus infection was statistically significant(χ2 = 9.55, P = 0.002).CONCLUSION: JC virus may play a broader role than previously thought, and may be mechanistically involved in the late stages of these tumors.

We report on the design and first results from experiments looking at the formation of radiative shocks on the Shenguang-Ⅱ(SG-Ⅱ) laser at the Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics in ***-heating of a two-layer CH/CH-Br foil drives a～40 km/s shock inside a gas cell filled with argon at an initial pressure of 1 *** use of gas-cell targets with large(several millimetres) lateral and axial extent allows the shock to propagate freely without any wall interactions,and permits a large field of view to image single and colliding counter-propagating shocks with time-resolved,pointprojection X-ray backlighting(～20 μm source size,4.3 keV photon energy).Single shocks were imaged up to 100 ns after the onset of the laser drive,allowing to probe the growth of spatial nonuniformities in the shock *** results are compared with experiments looking at counter-propagating shocks,showing a symmetric drive that leads to a collision and stagnation from～40 ns *** present a preliminary comparison with numerical simulations with the radiation hydrodynamics code ARWEN,which provides expected plasma parameters for the design of future experiments in this facility.
