To explore the effect of strontium on the structure of as-cast A356 alloy, the strontium was incorporated to the alloy by metallothermic reduction of SrO where the mineral was added to the melt through the submerged powders injection technique. The evaluation of the modification of the eutectie silicon and the chemical analysis of samples were done using optical microscopy （OP） and inductively coupled plasma （ICP）, respectively, while microstructural analyses by scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, and the injection time was variable. Magnesium was added to the melt to increase the reactivity and reduce the surface tension of the molten aluminum. It was possible to increase the strontium content from 0 to 0.027% after 20 minutes treatment. This concentration was sufficient to bring about full modification structure of eutectic silicon of as cast alloy A 356 and the acceptable quality metallurgical of alloy.

Acceptance and Experience of HIV-Infected Adolescents in Two Hospitals in Yaoundé

Introduction: Access to antiretroviral drugs has improved the survival of children infected with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). As they reach adolescence, they are confronted with various constraints related to the infection and its treatment, in addition to those of the growth period they are going through. The main aim of the study was to assess the acceptance and describe the experience of HIV infection by infected adolescents but also to investigate the factors associated with good acceptance and a positive experience. Methodology: The cross-sectional analytic study concerned HIV-infected adolescents aged 15 to 19 followed up at the Chantal Biya Foundation-Mother and Child Centre (CME-FCB) and the Yaoundé University Hospital Centre (CHUY) between February 2020 and June 2020. The study saw participants complete a questionnaire containing socio-demographic data and assessing acceptance and experience with the infection. Data analysis was accomplished using Epi info software version 7.***.2.6. Results: One hundred and thirteen HIV-infected adolescents were included in the study. The sex ratio was 0.68 and the mean age was 17 years. More than half of the adolescents had a good acceptance and positive experience with the infection. Related factors were the adolescent’s perception of good health and participation in an association with other infected adolescents. Conclusion: Emphasizing the psychological and educational follow-up of infected adolescents and encouraging their participation in associations for adolescents living with HIV could reduce the consequences of poor acceptance and ensure a better transition to adulthood. .

Strokes are common around the world and especially in sub-Saharan Africa. They are responsible for severe sequelae and the majority of deaths. In Gabon, no study on stroke mortality has been conducted. Objective: To determine short, medium, long-term mortality and factors associated with long-term stroke mortality. Method: Our study took place in the Neurology Department of the University Hospital Center of Libreville (UHCL). It was a historical cohort study with descriptive and analytical purposes covering the period from June 1 to August 31, 2018 and taking into account hospitalized patients from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2017. We conducted a comprehensive systematic recruitment of patients with stroke, 18 years old and more, and had been agreed to give information. We included all patients meeting the inclusion criteria. The data was gathered using Epi-Info 7 software. The CHI-2 test was used for the comparison of frequencies and the Student’s test, for comparison of means. Multivariate analysis with logistic regression allowed us to look for factors associated with long-term mortality. A result was statistically significant for a p 0.05 value. Results: At 3 months, 28 patients (18.1%) died, at 6 months thirty-one patients or 20.1% died. At 5 years old, fifty-three patients or 34.4% had died. The factors associated with long-term mortality, if the lost of sight were all alive were tobacco (p = 0.01) and stroke (p = 0.008). If all those who were lost to sight had died, no factor was associated with 5-year mortality. Conclusion: Stroke mortality must not be taken for granted, it can be underestimated because of the large number of lost sight. Measures must be put in place to strengthen post-stroke monitoring. .

Introduction: Anthropometry applied to newborns is a reliable indicator of the quality of fetal growth. The latter is influenced by genetic, racial and nutritional factors varying from one population to another, explaining why a standard cannot be applied to all populations. Research question: should the Caucasian frame of reference be dogmatically applied in our African context? Multicenter studies are therefore necessary;hence the interest of this work, the main objective of which was to describe the anthropometric profile of full-term newborns in the city of Douala. Methodology: We carried out a cross-sectional study with an analytical aim and prospective data collection in the maternity wards of the Douala General Hospital, Laquintinie Hospital, District hospitals of Deido, Nylon and Bonassama over a period of 4 months (January to April 2020). We were interested in any newborn, born alive, vaginally or by cesarean section, seen in the first 24 hours from a full-term single-fetal pregnancy whose mother had given consent. We excluded newborns whose term was unclear and those with congenital malformations or signs of embryo-foetopathy. Data collection was done using structured and pre-tested survey sheets. The study variables were obstetric and anthropometric. Statistical analyzes were carried out with CS Pro 7.3 and SPSS version 25.0 software. The Student, Chi-square and Fischer tests were used to compare the means of the variables, the percentages with a significance threshold P value Results: During the study period, 305 full-term newborns were included, divided into 172 boys and 133 girls. The average anthropometric parameters of the full-term newborn in the city of Douala were: average weight: 3305 grams, average height: 49.8 centimeters, average head circumference: 34.6 centimeters, average upper arm circumference: 11.3 centimeters, circumference average thoracic: 32.8 centimeters. There are increasing findings of the bivalve transmissible neoplasia derived from the Pacific mussel Mytilus trossulus(MtrBTN)in populations of different Mytilus species worldwide.The Subarctic is an area where this disease has not yet been sought despite the fact that Mytilus spp.are widespread there,and M.trossulus itself is a boreal species.We used flow cytometry of the hemolymph,hemocytology,and histology to diagnose disseminated neoplasia in a sample of M.trossulus from Magadan in the subarctic Sea of Okhotsk.Neoplasia was identified in 11 of 214 mussels studied.Using mtDNA COI sequencing,we revealed genotypes identical or nearly identical to known MtrBTN ones in the hemolymph of most of the diseased mussels.Both MtrBTN evolutionary lineages have been identified,the widespread MtrBTN2,and MtrBTN1,so far only known from M.trossulus in British Columbia on the other side of the Pacific from Magadan.In addition,MtrBTN2 was represented by 2 common diverged mtDNA haplolineages.These conclusions were confirmed for selected cancerous mussels by molecular cloning of COI and additional nuclear and mtDNA genes.On the background of high genetic diversity,different cancers were similar in terms of ploidy(range 4.0–5.8 n)and nuclear-to-cell ratio.Our study provides the first description of neoplasia and MtrBTN in mussels from the Sea of Okhotsk and from the Subarctic,of both MtrBTN1 and MtrBTN2 in the same mussel population,and the first direct comparison between these transmissible cancers.

Introduction: Low birth weight (LBW) is defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a birth weight strictly below 2500 g, whatever the term of pregnancy. It constitutes a major public health problem, both in developed and developing countries, due to its magnitude and its strong association with infant morbidity and mortality. Main objective was to study the factors associated with the occurrence of small-for-gestational-age newborns in Douala. Methodology: We carried out a cross-sectional analytical study with prospective data collection using a technical pretested sheet in the maternity wards of the Douala General Hospital, the Laquintinie Hospital, and the District hospitals of Deido, Nylon and Bonassama over a period of 4 months (January to April 2020). We were interested in any newborn, born alive, vaginally or by cesarean section, of low weight, seen in the first 24 hours from a full-term single-fetal pregnancy whose mother had given her consent. Our sampling was consecutive and non-exhaustive. We excluded newborns whose term was unclear and those with congenital malformations or signs of embryo-foetopathy. Data collection was done using survey sheets. Statistical analyzes were carried out with CS Pro 7.3 and SPSS version 25.0 software. The Student, Chi-square and Fischer tests were used to compare the means of the variables, the percentages with a significance threshold P value Results: During the study period, 305 full-term newborns were included, divided into 172 boys and 133 girls. Dear Editor,Infertility affects about 15%of couples of childbearing age.i About half of these cases can be attributed predominantly to a male factor,such as a quantitative or qualitative impairment in spermatogenesis.The etiology of male infertility is related to anatomic,genetic,and environmental causes,being sometimes multifactorial and of unknown or idiopathic origins.At present,genetic screening for nonobstructive azoospermia(NOA)is generally limited to karyotyping for the identification of chromosome abnormalities such as 47,XXY,46,X,der(X)t(X;Y)(p22.3;p11.2),chromosome rearrangements,and Y chromosome microdeletions.Whole-genome analyses have shown that over 100 gene variants are associated with a male infertility phenotype,and the list continues to grow;hence,a large number of genes are involved in spermatogenesis.The continuing identification of genes responsible for male infertility in general and azoospermia,in particular,is a major challenge in both research and the diagnosis ofmale infertility.

Semiotics is used in the sphere of visual arts as a tool that helps reading the message included in a certain work.Gothic architecture,as an outcome of the rich cultural context of medieval tradition,where metaphysics,numbers and geometry were indispensable tools to symbolically manifest cosmological and theological concepts,is suggested as a good example for testing this approach in the field of architecture.In this paper,a semiotic reading for one of the most distinguished works of this era;i.e.,the cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris,is introduced as a model for this methodology.Among many message included in the building,such as the functional or the technical messages,this is a trial to introduce a reading,i.e.,an interpretation,of what could be called rta hidden spiritual messase,The paper comes to a conclusion that the Gothic cathedral,as represented in Notre Dame de Paris,might be perceived as an extemalization of a standing hymn that was meant to send continuous appeals of protection to Heaven.

Cultural background plays a significant role in the sphere of visual art. Semiotics as a discipUne is recognized as a useful tool in gauging cultural background and identifying signs that might represent the message of a certain work. Given the rich cultural context of Mamluk architecture, this form of art can be used in studying semiotics. Semiotic tools were employed to interpret the expression of architectura（ forms and to formulate a subsequent understanding of these architectura（ forms by turning each element into a communication tool that elucidates meaning. The Sufle tradition was the dominant Islamic practice during the Mamluk period, during which metaphysics, numbers, and geometry were regarded as indispensab（e tools in manifesting the nature of divinity and the order of being. A semiotic reading of the Funerary Complex of Sultan Qaitbay in Cairo, regarded as one of the perfect works of this era, was proposed to study the reflections of these notions on architectural works. Several messages were embodied in the building, such as functional or technical messages. The semiotic reading in this study is solely concerned with the spiritual message of the building.
