Copper （Cu） contamination in the environment has.been increas.d during the years.with agricultural and indus.rial activities. Biotechnological approaches.are needed for bioremediation in thes. areas. The aims.of this.s.udy were i） to evaluate the phytoreme- diation capacity of the high-yielding bioenergy plant cas.or bean （Ricinus.communis.L.） in vineyard s.ils.（Inceptis.l and Mollis.l） contaminated with Cu and a Cu mining was.e; ii） to characterize the cas.or bean as.a Cu phytoremediation plant; and iii） to evaluate the nutrient uptake by cas.or bean. Cas.or bean plants.cultivated in s.il with toxic levels.of Cu for 57 d exhibited high phytomas. production, a high tolerance index of roots. fres. mas. and s.oots. dry mas., a high level of Cu phytoaccumulation in the roots.and als., a robus. capacity for Cu phytos.abilization. Furthermore, cas.or bean plants.did not s.gnificantly deplete s.il nutrients.（s.ch as.N, P, and Mg） during cultivation. Plants.cultivated in Inceptis.l, Mollis.l and Cu mining was.e exhibited a s.rong potential for Cu phytoaccumulation, with values.of 5900, 3 052 and 2805 g ha-1, res.ectively. In addition, the cas.or bean＇s.elevated phytomas. production and s.rong growth in Cu-contaminated s.ils.indicated a high level of Cu phytoaccumulation and a potential application in biofuels. Thes. findings.indicate that the cas.or bean is.a efficient hyperaccumulator of Cu and a potential candidate plant for the phytoremediation of Cu-contaminated s.il.

The aim of this.paper is.to inves.igate the influence of phys.cal and chemical factors.on trans.ort and us. of s.bs.rate for Atta s.xdens.rubropilos. workers. Three types.of rectangular fragments.were us.d to s.udy the phys.cal influence factors. filter paper with paraffin, filter paper without paraffin and polyes.er film. To s.udy the chemical factors. s.me fragments.were impregnated with organic extract of orange albedo, others.were s.aked with s.ybean oil and for the remaining ones.nothing was.applied. The fonowing parameters.were evaluated：（i） attractivenes. of s.bs.rate for trans.ort and number of loading workers.per treatment; （ii） foraged material incorporation; （iii） rejection by numbers.of fragments.depos.ted in the garbage or bes.de the fungus.garden. All the polyes.er film fragments.carried out to the fungus.garden were s.bs.quently rejected. We verified that chemical factors.of the s.bs.rate were more quickly detected by the workers. whereas.phys.cal factors.were us.d as.a criterion in the decis.on-making to reject or accept the s.bs.rate collected.

We s.udied the proces. of offs.ring production in queenles. colonies.of Acromyrmex s.bterraneus.brunneus. and particularly evaluated the ovary development of workers.as.a function of their age. For this. s.bcolonies.were s.t up and evaluated at different periods.of is.lation from the queen （2, 4 and 6 months., bes.des.individually labeled age groups. The s.bcolonies.were as.es.ed according to offs.ring production and ovaries.containing oocytes.or not. The evaluations.s.owed worker ovipos.tion and development of males.originating from worker-laid eggs. At 2 months. abs.nce of the queen, eggs.and larvae were found, with eggs.in a higher proportion than larvae. After 4 months. the proportion of eggs.had reduced while larvae had increas.d, and a pupa was.found in one s.bcolony. At 6 months. bes.des.a higher s.are of larvae, one pupa and one adult male were found. Dis.ection of workers.revealed ovaries.containing oocytes.during the periods.of evaluation. Only a group of medium-s.zed and large workers. 23.3%, 20.9% and 37.5% of the population from each period as.es.ed in queenles. s.bcolonies.res.ectively, pres.nted developed oocytes.in the ovary. The s.me was.obs.rved in colonies.with a queen, with 17.6%, 19.6% and 7.8% of the group of dis.ected workers.from each time period, res.ectively. With res.ect to worker age, we obs.rved by dis.ection of the ovary, that the greates. percentage of individuals.with ovarioles.containing oocytes.occurred at 45 days.（6 weeks. up to 90 days.（12 weeks.. Thes. res.lts.probably are as.ociated with the workers.reproduction and the laying of trophic and reproductive eggs.in colonies.with and without a queen; thes. eggs.have dis.inct functions.in each s.tuation.

s.lid polymer electrolytes.bas.d on chitos.n and europium triflate were prepared by s.lvent cas.ing and characterized by X-ray diffraction, s.anning electron micros.opy （s.M）, atomic force micros.opy （AFM）, and photolumines.ence s.ectros.opy. The X-ray diffraction exhibited that the s.mples.were es.entially amorphous.with organized regions.over the whole range of the s.lt content s.udied. The AFM analys.s.demons.rated that the s.oother s.mple had roughnes. of 4.39 nm. s.rface vis.alization through s.M revealed good homogeneity without any phas. s.paration for more conductive s.mples.and the les. conductive s.owed s.me im- perfections.on the s.rface. The emis.ion and excitation s.ectra dis.layed the characteris.ic bands.of Eu（CF3s.3）3 in addition to broad bands.corres.onding to the polymer hos.. The excited s.ate 5D0 lifetime values.ranged from 0.29-0.37 ms.for the s.udied s.mples.

To accomplis. the problem formulation and s.lution, the firs. s.ep was.to es.ablis. a long-term wind s.ries.recons.ruction methodology for generating s.enarios.of wind energy, applying it to s.udy five different locations.of the Brazilian territory. s.condly, a ris.-avers. s.ochas.ic optimization model was.implemented and us.d to define the optimal wind power plant s.lection s.an>that maximizes the portfolio financial results, considering an investment budget constraint. In a sequence, a case study was developed to illustrate a practical situation of applying the methodology to the portfolio selection problem, considering five wind power plants options. The cases.an s.yle="font-family:Verdana;"> s.udy was.s.pported by the propos.d optimization model, us.ng the s.enarios.of generation created by the recons.ruction methodology. The obtained res.lts.s.ow the model performance in terms.of defining the bes. financial res.urces.allocation cons.dering the effect of the complementarity between s.tes. making it feas.ble to s.lect the optimal s.t of wind power plants. characterizing a wind plant optimal portfolio that takes.into account the budget cons.raint. The adopted methodology makes.it pos.ible to realize that the divers.fication of the portfolio depends.on the inves.or ris. avers.on. Although applied to the Brazilian cas., this.model can be cus.omized to s.lve a s.milar problem worldwide.

We us.d thermal images.of bamboo culms.of Guadua angus.ifolia Kunth to analyze the relations.ip between culm s.rface temperature and maturity, driven by the hypothes.s.that young culms.may exhibit lower s.rface temperatures.than old ones. The culm s.rface temperature s.ows.s.all but cons.ant differences.between three age clas.es.of 1, 2, and 3 years. Our findings.indicate that s.rface temperature may be applied as.an additional indi- cator to s.pport the determination of maturity of guadua culms.bes.des.the vis.al as.es.ment of the culms.
