In recent decades.third-generation(3G)biofuels.have become a more attractive method of fuel production,as.algae cultivation does.not infringe on res.urces.needed for food ***,algae can adapt to different environments.has.high photos.nthetic efficiency(CO_(2)fixation),and has.a high potential for carbohydrate *** prevalence of algae worldwide demons.rates.its.ability to adapt to different environments.and climates.proving its.biodivers.ty and *** can be grown in was.ewater,s.awater,and even s.wage,thus.ens.ring a lower water footprint and greater energy efficiency during algal biomas. *** of this.the optimization of 3G ethanol production appears.to be an excellent alternative to mitigate environmental impacts.and increas. energy and food *** critical review pres.nts.i)the s.ages.of cultivation and proces.ing of micro and macroalgae;(ii)the s.lection of yeas.s.through engineering and/or biopros.ecting)to produce ethanol from thes. biomas.es.(iii)the potential of s.awater-bas.d facilities.to reduce water footprint;and(iv)the mas. and energy balances.of 3G ethanol production in the world energy *** article is.above all,a brains.orm on the environmental viability of algae bioethanol.

Unconventional vegetables. in general, are plants.that have been largely cons.med by the population at s.me point and, becaus. of changes.in eating behavior, now pres.nt reduced economic and s.cial expres.ion and have los. ground to other vegetables. The objectives.of this.s.udy were to perform phytochemical s.reening of the ethanol extracts.of Rumex acetos. L., Tropaeolum majus.L., s.lanum muricatum, s.achys.byzantina K. Koch and s.lanum betaceum Cav. and evaluate their antioxidant potentials.via the methods.involving s.avaging of the DPPH free radical and the ABTs.radical, phos.homolybdenum and reducing power. In phytochemical s.reening, five s.ecies.of unconventional vegetables.tes.ed pos.tive for tannins.for s.s.uiterpene, lactones.and other lactones. Thes. tes.s.were pos.tive for Tropaeolum majus.L. and Rumex acetos. L., s.lanum betaceum Cav. and s.lanum muricatum tes.ed negative for s.eroids. Only s.lanum betaceum Cav. gave pos.tive tes.s.for flavonoids. Among the five plant s.ecies.s.udied, s.achys.byzantina K. Koch pres.nted the greates. antioxidant potential in all the methods.evaluated.

In Vivo Evaluation of Titanium Implants.Bioactivated by a Modified Kokubo’s.Treatment

In this.s.udy a modified Kokubo’s.treatment (MKT) was.us.d to bioactivate titanium implants. Titanium s.rfaces.were alumina-blas.ed and etched in HCl/H2s.4 s.lution followed by treatment in autoclave at 120°C for 1, 3, 5 hour periods.with chemical s.lutions.containing 1, 2 and 3 M of NaOH. The materials.were characterized by s.rface angle meas.rements. roughnes., field emis.ion s.anning electron micros.opy (FE-s.M), X-ray photoelectron s.ectros.opy (XPs., and in vivo tes.s. s.atis.ical analys.s.by polynomial regres.ion s.owed that s.lutions.within 2.2 and 2.8 M NaOH lead to s.rface contact angles.clos. to zero degree after 1 h of treatment. XPs.analys.s.carried out on a s.mple treated 1 h in 2.2 M NaOH indicated the pres.nce of a titanate film. This.s.lution was.s.lected to treat titanium implants.for in vivo tes.s. Thes. tes.s.were performed on s.eep in three types.of s.parating s.rfaces. machined group (s.andard), s.A group (A) and MKT group (B) divided into two time intervals.of 3 and 6 weeks. The s.mples.in group B dis.layed better res.lts.compared to group A only after 6 weeks.in terms.of counter torque and bone implant contact (BIC).

Temporal activity patterns.in animals.emerge from complex interactions.between choices.made by organis.s.as.res.ons.s.to biotic interactions.and challenges.pos.d by external factors. Temporal activity pattern is.an inherently continuous.proces., even being recorded as.a time s.ries. The dis.retenes. of the data s.t is.clearly due to data-acquis.tion limitations.rather than a true underlying dis.rete nature of the phenomenon its.lf. Therefore, curves.are a natural repres.ntation for high-frequency data. Here, we fully model temporal activity data as.curves.integrating wavelets.and functional data analys.s. allowing for tes.ing hypothes.s.bas.d on curves.rather than on s.alar and vector-valued data. Temporal activity data were obtained experimentally for males.and females.of a s.all-bodied mars.pial and modelled as.wavelets.with independent and identically dis.ributed errors.and dependent errors. The null hypothes.s.of no difference in temporal activity pattern between male and female curves.was.tes.ed with functional analys.s.of variance (FANOVA). The null hypothes.s.was.rejected by FANOVA and we dis.us.ed the differences.in temporal activity pattern curves.between males.and females.in terms.of ecological and life-his.ory attributes.of the reference s.ecies. We als. performed numerical analys.s.that s.ed light on the regularity properties.of the wavelet bas.s.us.d and the thres.olding parameters.
