BACKGROUND Hepat.t.s C virus(HCV)infect.on is a public healt. concern *** fact.rs,including genet.c polymorphisms,may be evolved in t.e progression of HCV infect.on t. liver *** lambdas(IFNLs)modulat. t.e immune response during viral *** induce ant.viral act.vit.,int.rfering in t.e viral replicat.on by promot.ng t.e expression of several genes t.at.regulat. immunological *** int.rferon lambda-4(IFNL4)rs12979860 polymorphism,which is charact.rized by a C t. t.t.ansit.on in int.on 1,is associat.d wit. spont.neous and t.eat.ent.induced clearance of HCV infect.on and may play a role in t.e development.of HCV-associat.d liver diseases,including hepat.cellular carcinoma(HCC).AIM t. invest.gat. t.e associat.on of IFNL4 rs12979860 polymorphism wit. fibrosis,cirrhosis,and HCC in pat.ent. wit. chronic HCV *** t.is st.dy was comprised of 305 chronic HCV-infect.d pat.ent.(53 fibrosis,154 cirrhosis,and 98 HCC cases).t.e cont.ol group was comprised of 260 HCVnegat.ve healt.y *** IFNL4 rs12979860 polymorphism was genot.ped using t.e t.qMan *** was diagnosed based on liver biopsy findings,while cirrhosis was diagnosed t.rough clinical,laborat.ry,anat.mopat.ological,and/or imaging *** was diagnosed t.rough imaging t.st.,t.mor,and/or anat.mopat.ological *** t.e t.allele was observed in t.e t.ree groups of pat.ent.(fibrosis,cirrhosis,and HCC)at.a significant.y higher frequency when compared wit. t.e cont.ol group(P=0.047,Pt.vely).Also,genot.pe frequencies present.d significant.differences bet.een t.e cont.ol group and cirrhosis pat.ent.(Pt.ent.(P=0.002).t.e risk analysis was performed using t.e codominant.and dominant.t.allele *** t.e codominant.model,it.was observed t.at.t.e Ct.genot.pe showed an increased risk of developing cirrhosis in comparison wit. t.e CC genot.pe[odds rat.o(OR)=2.53;95%confidence int.rval(CI):1.55-4.15;

Int.oduct.on: Humans have gone t.rough physical changes over t.e last.4 million years. t.e mout., however, has not.changed t.et. quant.t. or qualit.. Eight.incisors for fruit., veget.bles and t.bers;four lit.le canines for lit.le animals;eight.premolars and t.elve flat.molars are used for crushing t.ese foods, especially whole grains and legumes. t.e t.et. crushing foods are t.e first.st.p in t.e building of faecal mat.er. Foods are select.d most.y according t. cult.ral guidelines t.an t. biological needs. t.e pat.erns of consumpt.on are induced by t.e publicit. of indust.ialized or processed foods. Mat.rial and Met.ods: t.is st.dy design was observat.onal, analyt.cal, correlat.onal, t.ansversal and prospect.ve. One t.ousand children (0 - 12 years old) were quest.oned in order t. learn about.t.e relat.onship bet.een Weekly Eat.ng Frequency (WEF) and Faecal Mat.er (FM) charact.rist.cs. t.e FM was classified as soft. normal or hard and t.e out.ome was expressed as Dry Faecal Residue (DFR). t.e WEF and Weekly Bowel Movement.Frequency (WBMF) were det.rmined and t.bulat.d according t. t.mes per week. Environment.l fact.rs, parent.’ educat.on level and children’s birt. order were examined. Result.: t.ere was a st.ong associat.on bet.een DFR, WBMF and WEF. Environment.and educat.on level did not.play a key role alt.ough birt. order did mat.er. Conclusions: Fibre-free foods (dairies, meat., flours and sweet.es or sodas) increased DFR. Foods cont.ining fibre from veget.bles decreased DFR, which in t.rn cont.ibut.d t. t.e WBMF. Lowest.DFR was observed in children under Exclusive Breast.eeding (EB). Dist.nt.last.born children had higher DFR. Comment.: Daily examples support.t.ese result. and it.is clear t.at.children’s FM is built.by t.eir parent.. We encourage parent. t. follow t.e “mout. nat.re” rat.er t.an t.e “advert.sement. nat.re”.

We invest.gat.d t.e effect. of puddling on percolat.on and rice yields in rainfed lowland paddy cult.vat.on. We select.d a st.dy village in Khammouane province, cent.al Laos, and set.up non-puddling and puddling plot. from high t. low posit.ons. Even when puddling was conduct.d carefully, t.e ponding wat.r in t.e plot. disappeared in t.e case of lit.le rainfall. Furt.er, percolat.fons during t.e lat.r periods of rice growt. increased drast.cally. t.erefore, it.is difficult.t. overcome drought.st.esses only by conduct.ng puddling. We also compared t.e wat.r condit.ons in t.e non-puddling and puddling plot.. In t.e puddling plot. at.high posit.on and low posit.on along a st.eam, t.e number of days wit.out.ponding wat.r in t.e puddling plot. was less t.an t.at.in t.e non-puddling field in July, suggest.ng t.e possibilit. of a different.t.ansplant.ng dat.. We t.ied t. est.mat. t.e effect. of t.ansplant.ng dat. on t.e rice yields and found t.at.t.ansplant.ng 15 days earlier leads t. an increase of 0.5 t.ha in t.e rice yields. Moreover, t.e profit. from t.e increased yields exceed t.e puddling cost. considerably, leading t. a definit. increase in income. Because t.e t.ansplant.ng dat. has no effect. in t.e fields wit. high ground wat.r, puddling is effect.ve in paddy fields where ponding does not.occur t. a significant.degree.

t.is st.dy present. hybrid clones of Corymbia *** by Aperam BioEnergia as pot.nt.al subst.t.t.s for Eucalypt.s wood in t.e pulp *** biomass of Eucalypt.s *** compared wit. t.at.of Corymbia *** performing modified kraft.pulping and basic densit. *** were made by analyzing t.eir respect.ve mean annual increment. of cellulose(MAI_(cel))and specific wood consumpt.on(SWC),est.mat.d using a kappa number of(19±1).t.e result. showed t.at.one of t.e hybrid clones(Corymbia cit.iodora×Corymbia t.relliana,ID 4)had higher basic wood densit.,higher screened yield,bet.er MAI_(cel#k19),and lower SWC t.an t.e ot.er samples,reaching values of 0.608 t.m^(3),54.1%,24.6 ADt.ha/year(i.e.,air dry t.n/hect.re/year),and 2.74 m^(3)/ADt.***,clone ID 4 had t.e highest.MAI_(cel)/SWC rat.o score(8.98).Given it. high forest.product.vit. and low indust.ial cost.compared wit. ot.er samples,as well as it. advant.ges over Eucalypt.s ***,we concluded t.at.clone ID 4 has great.pot.nt.al as an alt.rnat.ve biomass for pulp product.on.

AIM:t. evaluat. t.e effect.of double-balloon ent.roscopy (DBE) on pancreas hist.logy and levels of pancreat.c enzymes. MEt.ODS:Convent.onal upper gast.oint.st.nal endoscopy was performed on five cont.ol pigs. Oral DBE was performed wit. an EN-450t. ent.roscope on 20 pigs. t.o experiment.l groups (10 pigs each) were defined according t. DBE durat.on:90 min for Group 1 and 140 min for Group 2. During oral insert.on, t.e balloons were not.inflat.d in t.e descending part.of t.e duode-num t. avoid t.e minor duodenal papilla. Serum amylase, lipase and C-react.ve prot.in (CRP) levels were monit.red before t.e procedure and repeat.d every 30 min unt.l t.e explorat.on was finished, as well as 24 h and 7 d aft.r. Aft.r t.e procedure and for a t.t.l of 7 d, t.e pigs were observed t.ice a day for signs of decreased act.vit., irrit.bilit., vomit.ng or anorexia. Gross and microscopic examinat.on of t.e pancreas was performed on day 7. RESULt.:All animals t.lerat.d DBE wit.out.clinical manifest.t.ons of acut. pancreat.t.s. Experiment.l groups had higher levels of enzymes t.an t.e cont.ol group at.24 h. t.roughout.t.e explorat.on, t.e amylase levels increased significant.y above t.e baseline 24 h aft.r DBE, alt.ough t.e increase was not.st.t.st.cally significant.and did not.reach 20% of t.e baseline. An increase in lipase and CRP was observed at.24 h aft.r t.e procedure, alt.ough by day 7, all enzymat.c levels had ret.rned t. baseline. No differences bet.een Groups 1 and 2 were found for any enzyme and sampling sit. during and aft.r t.e procedure. Similarly, no correlat.on bet.een insert.on dept. and enzyme levels was observed. Direct.in sit. and post.removal inspect.on of t.e pancreas did not.show any evidence of fluid collect.on, abscesses or hemorrhage. Hist.logical examinat.on of t.e pancreas from Groups 1 and 2 revealed t.e exist.nce of focal areas (0.14-0.26 mm 2 ) of ischemic necrosis in 47.4% of t.e animals. t.e purpose of t.is st.dy was t. evaluat. t.e preoperat.ve radiographs wit. cases of development.l dysplasia of t.e hip (DDH) leading t. rot.t.onal acet.bular ost.ot.my (RAO) or curved peri-ace-t.bular ost.ot.my (CPO), and examine t.e frequency of femoroacet.bular impingement.(FAI) relat.d bone morphology in t.e acet.bulum and femoral head-neck junct.on. t.ent.-four hips wit. hip dyaplasia who underwent.CPO or RAO were included in t.is st.dy. Six hips had grade 0 and eight.en hips had grade 1 OA according t. t.e t.ouml;nnis classificat.on. We excluded pat.ent. wit. moderat. and severe hip ost.oart.rit.s and major femoral head deformit.es. Preoperat.ve radiograph was evaluat.d on sharp angle, cent.r-edge angle, alpha angle, crossover sign and post.rior wall sign. Crossover signs were revealed in 7 hips (29.2%);post.rior wall signs were revealed in 16 hips (66.7%);and cam-t.pe deformit.es wit. an alpha angle of ≥50.5°were observed in 19 hips (79.2%) in preoperat.ve evaluat.on. As det.rmined using t.e t.ouml;nnis scale, no progression of ost.oart.rit.s was found in 16 of t.e 24 hips;t.ere was a one-grade progression in 8 hips. Among t.e 8 hips, eit.er posit.ve cross-over sign or post.rior sign in acet.bulum, and an alpha angle of ≥50.5°in femur were observed in six hips wit. progression of ost.oart.rit.s. t.e presence of cam-t.pe deformit. and acet.bular ret.oversion in pat.ent. who underwent.RAO or CPO was relat.vely high in preoperat.ve radiographs, and caut.on should be employed during surgery in pat.ent. wit. DDH. t.ere is a possibilit. of secondary FAI due t. excessive forward coverage of t.e bone fragment. aft.r RAO and CPO.

We describe t.e development.of quinolylnit.ones(QNs)as mult.funct.onal ligands inhibit.ng cholinest.rases(ChEs:acet.lcholinest.rase and but.rylcholinest.rase—h BChE)and monoamine oxidases(hMAO-A/B)for t.e t.erapy of neurodegenerat.ve *** ident.fied QN 19,a simple,low molecular weight.nit.one,t.at.is readily synt.esized from commercially available *** 19 has no t.pical pharmacophoric element.t. suggest.ChE or MAO inhibit.on,yet.unexpect.dly showed pot.nt.inhibit.on of h BChE(IC50=1.06±0.31 nmol/L)and h MAO-B(IC_(50)=4.46±0.18μmol/L).t.e cryst.l st.uct.res of 19 wit. hBChE and hMAO-B provided t.e st.uct.ral basis for pot.nt.binding,which was furt.er st.died by enzyme *** 19 act.d as a free radical scavenger and biomet.l chelat.r,crossed t.e blood—brain barrier,was not.cyt.t.xic,and showed neuroprot.ct.ve propert.es in a 6-hydroxydopamine cell model of Parkinson's *** addit.on,in vivo st.dies showed t.e ant.-amnesic effect.of 19 in t.e scopolamine-induced mouse model of AD wit.out.adverse effect. on mot.ric funct.on and ***,chronic t.eat.ent.of double t.ansgenic APPswe-PS1δE9 mice wit. 19 reduced amyloid plaque load in t.e hippocampus and cort.x of female mice,underscoring t.e disease-modifying effect.of QN 19.
