Burden of gastrointestinal cancers among working-age population over past thirty years in China

BACKGROUND Although gastrointestinal(GI)cancers have been becoming a great public health concern in China,there is currently a lack of comprehensive literature on the overall burden and changing trends of GI cancers in the working-age *** To assess the burden of GI cancers and to examine the overall,age-and genderspecific trends among the working-age population in China from 1990 to *** data were extracted from the Global Burden of Disease Study *** burden of GI cancers was indicated by incidence,mortality,disability-adjusted life-years(daLYs),age-standardized incidence rate(ASIR),age-standardized mortality rate,and age-standardized daLYs *** in the burden of GI cancers from 1990 to 2019 were examined using annual percent change and average annual percent change with Joinpoint regression *** For overall GI cancers,a declining trend was observed in the ASIR,age-standardized mortality rate,and agestandardized daLYs rate,with reductions of 0.74%,2.23%,and 2.22%,respectively,from 1999 to 2019 in the Chinese working-age ***,an increasing trend was observed in the ASIR for overall GI cancers from *** number of either incident cases,mortality cases,and daLYs was higher for colon/rectum cancer and liver cancer in younger participants but lower for esophageal,gallbladder,biliary tract,pancreatic,and stomach cancer among older ***,sex disparity in the GI cancers burden was also examined over 30 *** The total burden of GI cancers remained heavy among the working-age population in China,although declining trends were observed from 1999 to *** in the GI cancers burden existed between sexes,age groups,and cancer ***-based precision prevention strategies are needed to tackle GI cancers among working-age individuals,considering the age,sex,and cancer type disparities in China.

Cuprotosis,a new type of cell death,provides great opportunities for the treatment of oral squamous cell carcinoma,as nanocarriers of copper ions can induce cuprotosis and immunogenic ***,we studied an editor that enables production of a nanoparticle“storm”in oral squamous cell carcinoma,maximizing the toxic effect of these particles and reprogramming the tumor microenvironment;as a result,T cells and natural killer(NK)cells can infiltrate the tumor microenvironment to activate an antitumor immune *** this basis,the editor can be combined with optical therapy to improve patient *** this study,the metal ratio was regulated in response to the nanocarrier of acid response ***,in the presence of a specific copper ion content,the nanocarrier could change the permeability of the tumor cell *** on these results,the nanoparticles were cracked in an acidic environment and then released copper ***,the nanoparticles contributed to cuprotosis and immunogenic *** addition,the editor could inhibit murine oral cancer 1(MOC1)tumors in C57BL/6 without *** rate of tumor growth inhibition was as high as approximately 80%.This strategy provides a new idea for ***,it can improve the interaction between immunotherapy and the copper-induced death of oral squamous cell *** all,this study will provide a new opportunity for the effective treatment of oral squamous cell carcinoma.

Optical responses of metallic plasmonic arrays under the localized excitation

The metallic plasmonic array that can support both propagating surface plasmon polaritons(PSPPs)and localized surface plasmon resonance(LSPR)possesses rich optical properties and remarkable optical performance,making it a powerful platform for applications in photonics,chemistry,and *** practical applications,the excitation spot is usually smaller than the area of metal *** is thus imperative to address“how many array units are enough?”towards a rational design of plasmonic ***,we employed focused ion beam(FIB)to precisely fabricate a series of plasmonic array structures with increased unit *** utilizing photoluminescence(PL)and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy(SERS),we found that the array units outside the excitation spot still have a significant impact on the optical response within the *** with the numerical simulation,we found that the boundary of the finite array leads to the loss of PSPP outside the excitation point,which subsequently affects the coupling of PSPP and LSPR in the excitation spot,leading to variations in PL and SERS *** on the findings,we further tuned the LSPR mode of the metal arrays by electrodeposition to obtain strong near-field enhancement without any influence on the PSPP *** work advances the understanding of near-field and far-field optical behavior in finite-size array structures and provides guidance for designing highly-efficient photonic devices.

Application of immune checkpoint inhibitors and microsatellite instability in gastric cancer

In this editorial we comment on the article by Li published in the recent issue of the World Journal of *** focus specifically on the application of immune checkpoint inhibitors(ICIs)and microsatellite instability(MSI)in gastric cancer(GC).The four pillars of GC management have long been considered,including surgery,chemotherapy,radiotherapy and targeted ***,immunotherapy has recently emerged as a“fifth pillar”,and its use is rapidly *** are four principal strategies for tumor immunotherapy:ICIs,tumor vaccines,adoptive immunotherapy and nonspecific *** them,ICIs are the most advanced and widespread type of cancer immunotherapy for *** breakthrough results for ICIs have paved the way to a new era of cancer *** particular,inhibition of the PD-1/PD-L1 axis with ICIs,including nivolumab and pembrolizumab,has emerged as a novel treatment strategy for advanced ***,these therapies are sometimes associated with often subtle,potentially fatal immune-related adverse events(irAEs),including dermatitis,diarrhea,colitis,endocrinopathy,hepatotoxicity,neuropathy and *** must be aware of these irAEs and improve the detection of these processes to prevent inappropriate discharges,emergency department revisits,and downstream *** studies have revealed that MSI-high or mismatch-repair-deficient tumors,regardless of their primary site,have a promising response to ***,it is important to detect MSI before applying ICIs for treatment of GC.

Latewood width(LWW)indices of trees are considered a reliable proxy of summer precipitation in the Northern ***,the strong coupling and high correlation between earlywood width(EWW)and LWW indices often prevent registration of climate signals of the LWW *** this study,328-year-long earlywood width and latewood width chronologies were developed from Chinese pine at two sites in the Hasi Mountains,north central *** climate responses of these chronologies were analyzed and the LWW index used to derive sum-mer precipitation *** analyses showed that LWW was particularly influenced by earlywood growth and recorded stronger climate signals of the previous year as EWW,rather than those of the current year with infrequent summer climate ***,after removing the effect of earlywood growth using a simple regression model,the adjusted LWW chronology(LWW_(adj))showed a strong relationship with July precipitation in dry *** suggests that the LWW_(adj) chronology has the potential to be used to investigate long-term variability in summer precipitation in drought-limited regions.

Active metal-based batteries are drawing increased attention because of their inherent high energy density and specific *** grand challenges,such as dendrite growth,electrode degradation,rapid performance fading,etc.,have limited their practical ***,which involves taking cues from the structures and functions of the natural world,can lead to a wealth of conceptually fresh approaches to regulator the metal ion transportation to achieve a dendrite-free metal plating,thwart the side-reaction reactions,and retard the structural distortions,for a more reliable and secure operation of active metal-based *** this review,we concentrate on the fabrication and application of bioinspired designs in active metal-based batteries with enhanced performance,along with discussion on the challenges and opportunities associated with this promising *** anticipate that this review can offer some insights into the development of functional materials by learning from nature and provide some approaches for the innovations of either the battery structures or the energy materials for metal-based batteries.

Single nucleus/cell RNA-seq of the chicken hypothalamicpituitaryovarian axis offers new insights into the molecular regulatory mechanisms of ovarian development

The hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian(HPO)axis represents a central neuroendocrine network essential for reproductive *** its critical role,the intrinsic heterogeneity within the HPO axis across vertebrates and the complex intercellular interactions remain poorly *** study provides the first comprehensive,unbiased,cell type-specific molecular profiling of all three components of the HPO axis in adult Lohmann layers and Liangshan yanying *** the hypothalamus,pituitary,and ovary,seven,12,and 13 distinct cell types were identified,*** indicated that the pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide(PACAP),follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH),and prolactin(PRL)signaling pathways may modulate the synthesis and secretion of gonadotropin-releasing hormone(GnRH),FSH,and luteinizing hormone(LH)within the hypothalamus and *** the ovary,interactions between granulosa cells and oocytes involved the KIT,CD99,LIFR,FN1,and ANGPTL signaling pathways,which collectively regulate follicular *** SEMA4 signaling pathway emerged as a critical mediator across all three tissues of the HPO ***,gene expression analysis revealed that relaxin 3(RLN3),gastrin-releasing peptide(GRP),and cocaine-and amphetamine regulated transcripts(CART,also known as CARTPT)may function as novel endocrine hormones,influencing the HPO axis through autocrine,paracrine,and endocrine *** analyses between Lohmann layers and Liangshan yanying chickens demonstrated higher expression levels of GRP,RLN3,CARTPT,LHCGR,FSHR,and GRPR in the ovaries of Lohmann layers,potentially contributing to their superior reproductive *** conclusion,this study provides a detailed molecular characterization of the HPO axis,offering novel insights into the regulatory mechanisms underlying reproductive biology.

Effects of formal credit on pastoral household expense: Evidence from the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau of China

Formal credit is critical in agricultural production,allowing more expenditure and productive input,thereby improving farmers'*** pastoral China,formal financial institutions are gradually ***,a limited understanding remains of how formal credit affects herders'household *** on a survey of 544 herders from the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau of China,this study adopted the propensity score matching approach to identify the effect of formal credit on herders'total household expenses,daily expenses,and productive *** results found that average age,grassland mortgage,and other variables significantly affected herders'participation in formal *** credit could significantly improve household expenses,especially productive expenses.A heterogeneity analysis showed that formal credit had a greater impact on the household total expense for those at higher levels of wealth;however,it significantly affected the productive expense of herders at lower wealth ***,the mediating effect indicated that formal credit could affect herders'household income,thus influencing their household ***,this study suggests that policies should improve herders'accessibility to formal credit.

Observation of an upward lightning flash with 21 upward positive leaders initiated from different wind turbines in wind farm

As the wind turbine height increases,the probability of multiple upward leaders flashes within the wind farm *** this study,an upward lightning flash containing 21 upward positive leaders(UPLs)initiated from different wind turbines in Zhangbei Wind Farm was *** average speed of the UPLs was 1.2×10^(5) m/s,which mostly decreased to zero before reaching the cloud *** four UPLs developed to cloud height,with prolonged periods of bright light on three of them and with a minimum duration of 126 ms.A total of nine return strokes occurred on the other two dissipated leader channels,and the numbers of strokes on the two channels was six and three,*** average interstroke interval for the return strokes was 10.5 *** of these nine return strokes had peak currents smaller than 10 *** high-speed video frames confirmed that competition does exist between the UPLs,and the range of shielding effects increases as the height of the ULs *** effect of fan.rotation on the initiation of upward leaders and the shielding effect between the wind turbines and upward leaders are discussed.
