Enhanced macrophage polarization induced by COX-2 inhibitor-loaded Pd octahedral nanozymes for treatment of atherosclerosis

Inhibition of foam cell formation is considered a promising treatment method for atherosclerosis,the leading cause of cardiovascular diseases ***,currently available therapeutic strategies have shown unsatisfactory clinical ***,herein,we design aloperine(ALO)-loaded and hyaluronic acid(HA)-modified palladium(Pd)octahedral nanozymes(Pd@HA/ALO)that can synergistically scavenge reactive oxygen species(ROS)and downregulate cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2)expression to induce macrophage polarization,thus inhibiting foam cell formation to attenuate *** to the targeted effect of HA on stabilin-2 and CD44,which are overexpressed in atherosclerotic plaques,Pd@HA/ALO can actively accumulate in atherosclerotic ***,the antioxidative effects of Pd octahedral nanozymes are mediated by their intrinsic superoxide dismutase-and catalase-like activities capable of effective scavenging of *** addition,anti-inflammatory effects are mediated by controlled,on-demand near-infrared-triggered ALO release leading to inhibition of COX-2 ***,the combined therapy can promote the polarization of macrophages to the M2 subtype by upregulating Arg-1 and CD206 expression and downregulating expression of TNF-α,IL-1βand IL-6,thereby inhibiting atherosclerosis-related foam cell *** conclusion,the presented in vitro and in vivo data demonstrate that Pd@HA/ALO enhanced macrophage polarization to reduce plaque formation,identifying an attractive treatment strategy for cardiovascular disease.

Quantification of 3D macropore networks in forest soils in Touzhai valley(Yunnan,China)using X-ray computed tomography and image analysis

The three dimensional （3D） geometry of soil macropores largely controls preferential flow, which is a significant infiltrating mechanism for rainfall in forest soils and affects slope stability. However, detailed studies on the 3D geometry of macropore networks in forest soils are rare. The intense rainfall-triggered potentially unstable slopes were threatening the villages at the downstream of Touzhai valley （Yunnan, China）. We visualized and quantified the 3D macropore networks in undisturbed soil columns （Histosols） taken from a forest hillslope in Touzhai valley, and compared them with those in agricultural soils （corn and soybean in USA; barley, fodder beet and red fescue in Denmark） and grassland soils in USA. We took two large undisturbed soil columns （250 mm^25o mmxsoo mm）, and scanned the soil columns at in-situ soil water content conditions using X-ray computed tomography at a voxel resolution of 0.945 × 0.945 × 1.500o mm^3. After reconstruction and visualization, we quantified the characteristics of macropore networks. In the studied forest soils, the main types of maeropores were root channels, inter-aggregate voids, maeropores without knowing origin, root-soil interfaee and stone-soil interface. While maeropore networks tend to be more eomplex, larger, deeper and longer. The forest soils have high maeroporosity, total maeropore wall area density, node density, and large maeropore volume, hydraulie radius, mean maeropore length, angle, and low tortuosity. The findings suggest that maeropore networks in the forest soils have high inter- connectivity, vertical continuity, linearity and less vertically oriented.

Plant community succession in modern Yellow River Delta, China

Data were collected in different successional stages using a simultaneous sampling method and analyzed through quantitative classification method. Three large groups and 12 classes were made to represent the community patterns of three succession stages and 12 succession communities. The succession series of plant community in the study area was as follows: saline bare land→community Suaeda salsa→community Tamarix chinensis→grassland. Succession degree and succession process of 12 succession communities were calculated. Most of these communities were in the lower succession stage, however, community Phragmites communis+Glycine soja and community Imperata cylindrica+G. soja were close to the succession stage of grassland climax. Five species diversity indices were used to study the changes in species richness, species evenness and diversity during succession of community. Heterogeneity index and richness index increased gradually during the community succession process, but species evenness tended to decrease with succession development. The relation between succession and environment was studied by ordination technique, and the results showed that the soil salt content was an important factor to halarch succession of the modern Yellow River Delta. It affected community structure, species composition and succession process.

BACKGROUND Neisseria mucosa is a gram negative diplococcus belonging to the genus Neisseria found commonly in the upper respiratory *** is typically a commensal organism when it is parasitic on oral and nasal *** our knowledge,it does not cause disease in healthy individuals with normal immunity,but can be pathogenic in those with impaired immune function or change in bacterial colonization *** mucosa has been reported to cause bacterial meningitis,conjunctivitis,pneumonia,endocarditis,peritonitis and ***,peritoneal dialysis-related peritonitis caused by Neisseria mucosa is extremely rare in clinical practice,which has not previously been reported in *** SUMMARY A 55-year-old female presented to the nephrology clinic with upper abdominal pain without apparent cause,accompanied by nausea,vomiting and diarrhea for two *** patient had a history of Stage 5 chronic kidney disease for five years,combined with renal hypertension and renal anemia,and was treated with peritoneal dialysis for renal replacement *** patient was subsequently diagnosed with peritoneal dialysis-related *** examination of peritoneal dialysis fluid showed abdominal infection,and the results of microbial culture of the peritoneal dialysis fluid confirmed Neisseria ***-penem/cilastatin 1.0 g q12h was added to peritoneal dialysis fluid for anti-infection *** 24 d,the patient underwent upper extremity arteriovenous *** month later,the patient was discharged home in a clinically stable *** Peritonitis caused by Neisseria mucosa is *** with home-based self-dialysis cannot guarantee good medical and health conditions,and require education on self-protection.

Celecoxib in combination with retinoid CD437 inhibits melanoma A375 cell in vitro

This study aimed to investigate the effects of celecoxib,synthetic retinoid 6-[3-(1-adamantyl)-4-hydroxyphenyl]-2-naphthalenecarboxylicacid(CD437)and the combination of the two on cell proliferation,apoptosis,and cycle arrest of human malignant mela-noma A375 cells.3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-di-phenyltetrazoliumbromide assay(MTT assay)was applied to determine the anti-proliferative effects of the drugs on human malignant melanoma A375 *** cytometry was performed to investigate the inﬂuence of the drugs on cell cycle and cell *** celecoxib and CD437 could inhibit the growth of human malignant melanoma A375 cells in a dose-dependent *** at 80μmol/L inhibited proliferation,induced apoptosis and G2/M cell cycle arrest of human malignant melanoma A375 cells after treatment for 24 h[proliferation inhibiting rate:(50.2±2.51)%,apoptosis rate:(35.91±1.80)%].CD437 at 10μmol/L inhibited proliferation,induced apoptosis and G0/G1 cell cycle arrest of human malignant melanoma A375 cells after treatment for 24 h[proliferation inhibiting rate:(58.6±2.38)%,apoptosis rate:(28.03±0.77)%].Celecoxib in combination with CD437 could signiﬁcantly enhance the effects of inhibiting proliferation and inducing apoptosis of human malignant melanoma A375 cells 24 h after treatment compared with the drug alone[proliferation inhibiting rate:(68.92±1.72)%,apop-tosis rate:(42.09±1.05)%,both Ple ***437 could inhibit the growth of human malignant melanoma A375 cells by inducing apoptosis and G0/G1 cycle *** exhibited additive effects with CD437 on retarding the growth and inducing apoptosis of human malignant melanoma A375 *** in combination with CD437 may become an effective method for prevention and treatment of human melanoma.

Anomalous crystal structure of γ" phase in the Mg-RE-Zn(Ag) series alloys:Causality clarified by ab initio study

The crystal structure of the single-unit-cell thickness γ " phase,as a key strengthening phase in Mg-REZn(Ag) series alloys,has been extensively studied,and several structural models have been proposed in the past two ***,these reported models,and even the lattice constants at the same proposed structure,are scattered severely,which has led to considerable confusion and not available for further mechanical property simulation and prediction of Mg alloys containing this *** this study,by using first-principles calculations,the crystal structure of y" phase is clarified,resolving the discrepancies among different experiments,and its intrinsic mechanical properties have also been studied for the first *** is verified that the γ " phase contains quasi-five atomic layers,instead of the previously reported tri-layer,and surprisingly,its crystal structure has many variants,which would change with the alloy ***,with the help of the simulated selected area electron diffraction(SAED) patterns,it is found that the atoms in the central layer remain partially ordered distribution,and this ordered extent primarily depends on the atomic ratio of RE:Zn(Ag) and the solute content in an *** is,the ordered extent increases with decreasing the atomic ratio of RE:Zn(Ag) and/or increasing solute content of alloy,and vice *** and Zn dissolved in the γ" phase would produce almost opposed mechanical anisotropy for the γ " phase under the identical crystal structure,and the addition of Ag shows more efficient on increasing the shear modulus of γ" phase.

Improvement of multi-functional properties by fabricating micro-pillar arrays structures on zirconium alloy surface

Although using the microstructure of a surface to enhance specific functions has immense applicability in numerous fields,few studies have been conducted on the multi-functional properties of nuclear fuel elements in harsh *** this study,surfaces with zirconium alloy micro-pillar arrays were prepared using micro-milling and ultraviolet nanosecond laser technology,and their functional properties such as the wettability,structural stability,and corrosion resistance were *** was found that the geometric dimension of the micro-pillar arrays prepared using these two methods could meet the design requirements,but the micro-milling process had the best dimensional ***-nano multi-scale structures were obtained by laser ***,these multi-scale structures exhibited weak structural stability,and the nanostructures were easily *** contrast,the micro-pillar arrays manufactured using micro-milling were confirmed to have better structural stability and corrosion *** one hand,the area mass loss of the micro-milled structure was lower than that of a flat surface after experiencing high-pressure fluid scouring at 8 and 38 m/*** the other hand,the oxidation weight gain of the surface with the micro-milled structure was lower than that of a flat surface,and the oxide film was 22.5% thinner after 100 days of deionized water corrosion at 360℃ and 18.7 MPa.

Effects and mechanism of ozonation for degradation of sodium acetate in aqueous solution

The degradation efficiencies and mechanism of ozonation for the degradation of sodium acetate in aqueous solution were investigated under atmospheric pressure at room temperature （293 K）. The effects of the initial pH value, reaction time, and concentrations ofHCO3^-, CO3^2- , CaC12, and Ca（OH）2 on the removal rate of chemical oxygen demand （COD） were studied. The results indicated that ozonation obviously improved the degradation rate of sodium acetate when the pH value of the solution was not less than 8.5. A suitable long reaction time may be helpful in increasing the COD removal rate, and a removal rate of 36.36% can be obtained after a 30-minute treatment. The COD removal rate increased firstly and decreased subsequently with the increase of the HCOj concentration （from 0 to 200 mg/L）, and under the same experimental condition it reached the optimum 34.66% at the HCO3-^ concentration of 100 mg/L. The COD removal rate was 5.26% lower when the concentration of HCO3^- was 200 mg/L than when there was no HCO3^-. The COD removal rate decreased by 15.68% when the CO3^2- concentration increased from 0 to 200 mg/L. CO3^2- has a more obvious scavenging effect in inhibiting the formation of hydroxyl radicals than HCO3. CaC12 and Ca（OH）2 could increase the degradation efficiency of sodium acetate greatly, and the COD removal rates reached 65.73% and 83.46%, respectively, after a 30-minute treatment, 29.37% and 47.10% higher, was proved that the degradation of sodium acetate in the ozonation process followed the mechanismof oxidization with hydroxyl free radicals （.OH）.

BACKGROUND Bone deficiency and soft tissue atrophy in the absence of maxillary lateral incisors are among the most challenging problems for implant *** bone grafting is the gold standard for bone augmentation,but not without ***-rich fibrin(PRF),a biodegradable autologous biomaterial,has been widely used for bone and soft tissue ***,titanium plate is an advantageous barrier due to its good space-maintaining ***,there is a lack of literature on implant site development using titanium plate and PRF for congenitally missing maxillary lateral *** SUMMARY The patient was a 19-year-old girl with a congenitally missing tooth(#12).She underwent implant placement and simultaneous autologous bone grafting with titanium plate and *** the follow-up visit 15 d post-procedure,the vascularization of soft tissue was *** was no swelling or pain after the *** months postoperatively,bone regeneration was ***,the definitive restoration was placed,and the patient was satisfied with the esthetic *** Implant site development using titanium plate and PRF for congenitally missing maxillary lateral incisors is a feasible *** this case,the labial bone plate was displaced but remained connected to the base bone,ensuring blood *** titanium plate fixed the labial bone plate and maintained the osteogenic space,while the PRF provided growth factors and leukocytes for bone and soft tissue ***,the procedure reduced the surgical complexity and adverse reactions,displaying outstanding esthetic outcomes.
