A semi-analytical finite element method(SAFEM),based on the two-scale asymptotic homogenization method(AHM)and the finite element method(FEM),is implemented to obtain the effective properties of two-phase fiber-reinforced composites(FrCs).The fibers are periodically distributed and unidirectionally aligned in a homogeneous *** framework addresses the static linear elastic micropolar problem through partial differential equations,subject to boundary conditions and perfect interface contact *** mathematical formulation of the local problems and the effective coefficients are presented by the *** local problems obtained from the AHM are solved by the FEM,which is denoted as the *** numerical results are provided,and the accuracy of the solutions is analyzed,indicating that the formulas and results obtained with the SAFEM may serve as the reference points for validating the outcomes of experimental and numerical computations.

In this work we have conducted a study on the radiative and spectroscopic properties of the radiative precursor and the post-shock region from experiments with radiative shocks in xenon performed at the Orion laser facility. The study is based on post-processing of radiation-hydrodynamics simulations of the experiment. In particular, we have analyzed the thermodynamic regime of the plasma, the charge state distributions, the monochromatic opacities and emissivities, and the specific intensities for plasma conditions of both regions. The study of the intensities is a useful tool to estimate ranges of electron temperatures present in the xenon plasma in these experiments and the analysis performed of the microscopic properties commented above helps to better understand the intensity spectra. Finally, a theoretical analysis of the possibility of the onset of isobaric thermal instabilities in the post-shock has been made, concluding that the instabilities obtained in the radiative-hydrodynamic simulations could be thermal ones due to strong radiative cooling.

A family of one-dimensional(1D) elliptic boundary-value problems with periodic and rapidly-oscillating piecewise-smooth coefficients is considered. The coefficients depend on the local or fast variables corresponding to two different structural scales. A finite number of imperfect contact conditions are analyzed at each of the scales. The reiterated homogenization method(rHM) is used to construct a formal asymptotic solution. The homogenized problem, the local problems, and the corresponding effective coefficients are obtained. A variational formulation is derived to obtain an estimate to prove the proximity between the solutions of the original problem and the homogenized problem. Numerical computations are used to illustrate both the convergence of the solutions and the gain of the effective properties of a three-scale heterogeneous 1D laminate with respect to their two-scale counterparts. The theoretical and practical ideas exposed here could be used to mathematically model multidimensional problems involving multiscale composite materials with imperfect contact at the interfaces.

Plasma radiative properties play a pivotal role both in nuclear fusion and *** are essential to analyze and explain experiments or observations and also in radiative-hydrodynamics *** computation requires the generation of large atomic databases and the calculation,by solving a set of rate equations,of a huge number of atomic level populations in wide ranges of plasma *** facts make that,for example,radiative-hydrodynamics in-line simulations be almost *** has lead to develop analytical expressions based on the parametrization of radiative ***,most of them are accurate only for coronal or local thermodynamic *** this work we present a code for the parametrization of plasma radiative properties of mono-component plasmas,in terms of plasma density and temperature,such as radiative power loss,the Planck and rosseland mean opacities and the average ionization,which is valid for steady-state optically thin plasmas in wide ranges of plasma densities and ***,we also present some applications of this parametrization such as the analysis of the optical depth and radiative character of plasmas,the use to perform diagnostics of the electron temperature,the determination of mean radiative properties for multicomponent plasmas and the analysis of radiative cooling instabilities in some kind of experiments on high-energy density laboratory ***,to ease the use of the code for the parametrization,this one has been integrated in a user interface and brief comments about it are presented.

Verrucous Hemangioma Mimicking Melanoma in an Elderly Man

Verrucous hemangioma (VH) is an uncommon, congenital, vascular anomaly that resembles angiokeratoma but it encompasses distinctive clinicopathological features. The differential diagnosis of this entity included all the hyperkeratotic vascular tumors and malformations and, especially in localized cases, pigmented lesions. VH lesions initially present at birth, and therefore, the diagnosis in the elderly may be difficult. We present a 77 year-old patient with a birth lesion on the back of his calf who came to the clinic with a two year history of enlargement of this lesion following trauma. We performed an excisional biopsy because clinical appearance simulated melanoma arising from a congenital nevus. Nevertheless, the histopathological examination revealed a verrucous hemangioma. A diagnosis of VH should be considered in erythematous papules, nodules, and plaques, especially those that are hyperkeratotic, present at birth, located on the lower extremities, and show growth after trauma or infection.
