A wideband rectangular patch antenna resonat- ing at 3.5 GHz and 8 GHz frequencies is developed on a flexible substrate, which can be used for wearable applications. The proposed antenna gives a wide impe- dance bandwidth of 116%, operating from *** to 9.5 GHz, covering most of the ultra-wideband （UWB） operating frequency range. A two-element multiple-input multiple-output （MIMO） system is developed using the proposed antenna, and the mutual coupling between the two antennas for various separations and frequencies is analyzed by using artificial neural networks （ANNs）. The neural structure is trained by using different ANN algorithms and a comparative study is made between them. It is shown that, quasi-Newton （QN） and quasi- Newton multi layer perceptron （QN-MLP） algorithms are better in terms of training, testing errors, and correlation coefficient.

Preeclampsia, a complication of pregnancy characterized by hypertension and proteinuria, has been found to reduce the subsequent risk for breast cancer in female offspring. As this pro- tective effect could be due to exposure to preeclampsia-specific proteins during intrauterine life, the proteomic profiles of umbilical cord blood plasma between preeclamptic and normotensive pregnancies were compared. Umbilical cord plasma samples, depleted of 14 abundant proteins, were subjected to proteomic analysis using the quantitative method of nanoACQUITY ultra performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry with elevated energy mode of acquisitionE （NanoUPLC-MSE）. Sixty-nine differentially expressed proteins were identified, of which 15 and 6 proteins were only detected in preeclamptic and normotensive pregnancies, ***, expression of 8 proteins （gelsolin, complement C5, keratin type I cytoskeletal 10, pigment epithelium-derived factor, complement factor B, complement component C7, hemoglobin subunit gamma-2 and alpha-fetoprotein） were up-regulated in preeclampsia with a fold change of 1〉 2.0 when compared to normotensive pregnancies. The identification of alpha-fetoprotein in pre- eclamptic umbilical cord blood plasma supported the validity of this screen as alpha-fetoprotein has anti-estrogenic properties and has previously been linked to preeclampsia as well as a reduced breast cancer risk. The findings of this pilot study may provide new insights into the mechanistic link between preeclampsia and potentially reduced breast cancer susceptibility in adult life.

Malignancy of otorhinolaryngeal region is the 6th common malignancy worldwide and nowadays the incidence is increasing in developing countries like India. This malignancy contributes to 23% of male and 6% of female population of India [1]. Malignancies included in this study are those of oralcavity, oropharynx, nasopharynx, hypopharynx, larynx, thyroid, nose, paranasal sinuses and salivary gland tumors. This study was conducted in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, Thanjavur Medical College, Thanjavur, Tamilnadu India, over a period of 2 years from August 2013 to February 2015. Histopathologically confirmed cases alone were taken for this study. In our study the laryngeal and hypopharyngeal malignancies outnumber the other regions. Males are more commonly affected and the age group of around 40 - 50 years is more commonly involved. Smoking and alcohol intake plays a major etiological factor. Cancer awareness programmes and health education regarding risk factors can help to reduce the incidence of malignancies in our Thanjavur delta region.

Study on Geometric Factors Influencing Saturation Flow rate at Signalized Intersections under Heterogeneous Traffic Conditions

The main objective of intersection design is to facilitate the convenience, comfort, and safety of people traversing the intersection by enhancing the efficient movement of road users. The intersections on urban roads in India generally cater to heterogeneous motorized traffic, along with slow-moving traffic including pedestrians. It is therefore necessary to consider saturation flow for mixed traffic conditions to evaluate the overall operation of signalized intersections. A proper traffic model must consider varying characteristics of all the road users to effectively design and efficiently manage signalized intersections. This paper presents the results of the study on analyses of saturation flow rate conducted at signalized intersections with mixed traffic conditions in the city of Bangalore, India. Studies were carried out at 15 signalized intersections in the city of Bangalore with varying geometric factors such as width of road (w), gradient of the road (g), and turning radius (r) for right turning vehicles. Saturation flow rate computed as per Highway Capacity manual (HCM: 2000), Indonesian highway capacity manual (IHCM), and IrC SP: 41-1994 was compared with the field observations. The geometric factors, which affect the saturation flow, have been considered in this study and accordingly a new model has been proposed for determining saturation flow. It has been shown that by the introduction of the suggested adjustment factors in this paper, the saturation flow rate can give better picture of the field conditions, especially under heterogeneous traffic conditions of an urban area.

Long term surgical treatment outcome of talar body fracture

A new six-component accelerometer force balance is developed and used in the HST2 shock tunnel of Indian Institute of Science. Aerodynamic forces and moments for a hypersonic slender body measured using this balance system at a free stream Mach number of 5.75 and reynolds number of 1.5 million and stagnation enthalpy of 1.5 and 2 MJ/kg are presented. These measured values compare well with the theoretical values estimated using modified Newtonian theory.

Objective： Talar body fractures are rare and have poor treatment outcome. The purpose of this study is to report the long term surgical treatment outcome of closed talar dome ***： Eight closed talar body fractures, treated by open reduction and internal fixation with small fragment cancellous screws and/or Herbert screws in our level Ⅰ trauma centre were retrospectively analyzed. Preoperative and postoperative radiographs of the foot （antero-posterior, lateral and oblique views） and ankle （antero-posterior, lateral and mortise views） were obtained. The patients were followed up both radiologically and functionally （foot function index, FFI） after 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months and then ***： There were five crush fractures and three shear fractures （two sagittal shear and one coronal shear）,with average follow-up of 5 years. No early complications were noticed in these patients. Late complications included osteoarthrosis of subtalar/ankle joints in six patients and osteonecrosis oftalar body in four patients. On functional assessment, mean FFI after 5 years was 104.63 points and worse outcome was noticed in crush injury and coronal shear fractures. Sagittal shear fractures had a good functional and radiological ***： Late complications subsequent to surgically treated talar body fractures are inevitable, even though exact reduction and rigid fixation are achieved, thus patients are supposed to be counseled about the adverse outcome. Although crush and coronal shear fractures have poor outcome, sagittal injuries have good prognosis on long term evaluation.

Cholesterol crystals have long been recognized as part of atherosclerotic *** have been visualized by light microscopy as empty spaces or imprints where crystals were once present and then dissolved by tissue ***,until now,their role in atherosclerosis and plaque rupture had been considered to be ***,by the processing of tissue without ethanol it was possible to visualize their extensiveness and potential role in tissue ***,it was demonstrated that cholesterol expands in volume when crystallizing from the liquid to the solid state,which is the presumed cause of plaque rupture by sharp-tipped crystals growing out of the plaque's necrotic *** cally,in patients who died of myocardial infarction,all culprit coronary lesions had extensive cholesterol crystals perforating the fibrous cap and intima,while those patients who died of other causes and had plaques did not have crystals perforating the cap and ***,cholesterol crystals traveling downstream from the plaque rupture site can scrape the endothelium and promote ***,cholesterol crystals lodging into the muscle can trigger an inflammation with necrosis independent of circulatory compromise or *** findings suggest that cholesterol crystals could play a critical role in plaque rupture,as well as vascular and myocardial injury.

Bacteriophages represent a rich and unique resource of anti-infectives to counter the global problem of antibiotic resis- tance. In this work, we assessed the bactericidal activity of two virulent staphylococcal phages, K and 44AHJD, against S. aureus isolates of clinical significance, and tested their efficacy in vivo. The phage cocktail lysed >85% of the clinical isolates tested. Both the phages were purified by ion-exchange column chromatography following propagation in bioreactors. The purity profiles of the ion-exchange purified phages were compared with those of phages purified using cesium chloride density gradient ultracentrifugation, and infectiousness of the purified phages was confirmed by plaque forming assay. The in vivo efficacy of a phage cocktail was evaluated in an experimental murine nasal colonization model, which showed that the phage cocktail was efficacious. To our knowledge, this is the first report of phage use in an in vivo model of nasal carriage.
