Towards understanding the influence of Mg content on phase transformations in the La3-xMgxNi9 alloys by in-situ neutron powder diffraction study

The present work is focused on the studies of the phase-structural transformations in the La3-xMgxNi9(x = 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2) alloys as active materials of negative electrodes in the Nickel-Metal Hydride(Ni/MH) batteries. The phase equilibria and phase-structural transformations in the alloys were probed by in situ neutron powder diffraction(NPD) at the temperatures ranging from 300 K to 1273 K using the measurements of the equilibrated alloys at 8 setpoint temperatures of 300, 973, 1073, 1123, 1173, 1223, 1248 and 1273 *** by induction melting initial alloys were found to be multi-phase structured, containing up to 6 individual intermetallic compounds with different stoichiometric compositions. With the increase of the temperature and holding time, various transformations took place in the studied alloys. These included the formations and transformations of super-stacking intermetallics with variable ratios(La + Mg)/Ni, 1:3, 2:7 and 5:*** increasing temperatures, several systematic changes took place.(a) Abundances of(La,Mg)2Ni4AB2and(La,Mg)Ni3AB3type intermetallics gradually decreased before they melted/decomposed above 1073 K;(b) The(La,Mg)2Ni7A2B7type intermetallics began to decrease in abundances above 1123 K;(c) The transformation in the(La,Mg)5Ni19intermetallics from 3 r to 2 H proceeded above 1223 *** increase of Mg content had no obvious influence on(La,Mg)2Ni4and(La,Mg)2Ni7phases, and corresponding reactions r1 and r3 took place at the same temperatures as in the La–Ni system. However, with increasing Mg content the melting point of(La,Mg)5Ni19phase increased while the melting point of the(La,Mg)Ni3phase it decreased, leading to the variation of the reaction temperatures of the corresponding *** present study will assist in optimizing phase-structural composition of the alloys in the La–Mg–Ni system which contain Mg-modified layered structures by tailoring the high temperature annealing conditions.

MgCo2-D2 and MgCoNi-D2 systems synthesized at high pressures and interaction mechanism during the HDDr processing

MgCo2and MgNiCo crystallize with hexagonal Laves type intermetallic structures of the C14 type and do not form hydrides at ambient hydrogen pressures. However, applying high hydrogen pressures in the GPa range forces the hydrogen absorption and leads to the formation of multi-phase compositions, which contain approximately 2.5 atoms H per formula unit of MgCo2or MgNiCo and remain thermally stable under normal *** hydrogenation of MgCo2resulted in its decomposition to a ternary Mg2CoD5deuteride and metallic cobalt. Phase-structural transformations accompanying the vacuum desorption of deuterium in the temperature range of 27–500 °C were studied using in situ neutron powder diffraction. The investigation showed a complete recovery of the initial MgCo2intermetallic via a Hydrogenation-Disproportionation-Desorption-recombination process. At 300°C, the Mg2CoD5deuteride first decomposed to elementary Mg and hexagonal Co. At 400°C, a MgCo phase was formed by interaction between Mg and Co. At the highest processing temperature of 500°C, a solid-state interaction of MgCo and Co resulted in the recovery of the initial *** interaction of MgNiCo with deuterium under the synthesis conditions of 2.8 GPa and 200 °C proceeded in a more complex way. A very stable ternary deuteride MgNi2D3was leached away while Co was separated in the form of Mg2CoD5and the remaining nickel formed a solid solution with Co with the approximate composition *** thermal desorption of deuterium from MgCo2D2.5and from MgNiCoD2.5has been studied by Thermal Desorption Spectroscopy with deuterium released into a closed volume. The observed effects nicely correlate with changes in the phase structural composition of the hydrides ***2is a new example of the hydrogen storage alloy, in which a successful HDDr processing results in the reversible formation of the initial intermetallic at much lower temperatures than in the equilibrium phase diagram of the Mg-Co system.

Morphometric studies of 3D micro CT-scanned images can provide insights into the evolution of the brain and sensory structures but such data are still scarce for the most diverse mammalian order of *** reviewed and new data,we tested for convergence to extreme aridity and high elevation in the sensory and brain morphology of rodents,from morphometric data from micro-CT X-ray scans of 174 crania of 16 species of three distantly re-lated African murid(soft-furred mice,Praomyini,laminate-toothed rats,Otomyini,and gerbils,Gerbillinae)clades and one North American cricetid(deer mice and white-footed mice,Peromyscus)*** studies demon-strated convergent evolution acting on the oval window area of the cochlea(enlarged in extremely arid-adapted species of Otomyini and Gerbillinae)and on endocranial volume(reduced in high elevation taxa of Otomyini and Peromyscus).However,contrary to our predictions,we did notfind evidence of convergence in brain struc-ture to aridity,or in the olfactory/respiratory system(turbinate bones)to high *** structure differed,particularly in the petrosal lobules of the cerebellum and the olfactory bulbs,between Otomyini and Gerbillinae,with extreme arid-adapted species in each clade being highly divergent(not convergent)from other species in the same *** observed greater“packing”of the maxillary turbinate bones,which have important respiratory functions,in Peromyscus mice from high and low elevations compared to the high-elevation African Praomyini,but more complex patterns within Peromyscus,probably related to trade-offs in respiratory physiology and heat exchange in the nasal epithelium associated with high-elevation adaptation.

In order to solve the contradiction between the rapidly growing energy demand and the excessive exploitation of fossil fuels,it is urgent to research and develops more environmentally friendly and efficient energy storage ***,the development of high-performance cathode materials to enhance the energy density of SIB is currently one of the most important topics of scientific *** high-voltage and low-cost cathode material for SIBs,a composite of carbon-coated Na_(4)MnCr(PO_(4))_(3)(NASICON-type),polyvinylpyrrolidone(PvP),and modified carbon nanotubes(CNTs)is prepared by sol-gel and freeze-drying *** to the high conductivity of CNTs,the conductivity of the composite is significantly improved,and its initial capacity is increased to 114 mAh/g at 0.5 C and 96 mAh/g at 5 C(Mn^(2+)/Mn^(4+)conversion for voltage windows 1.4-4.3 v).Moreover,the multi-electrons transfer of Cr^(3+)/Cr^(4+) and Mn^(2+)/Mn^(4+) can provide a high capacity of 165 mAh/g at 0.1 C and 102 mAh/g at 5 C in the high voltage window of 1.4-4.6 ***,PvP can effectively inhibit the Jahn-Teller effect caused by Mn ion,making the composite have more excellent high-rate performance and *** addition,GITT,EIS and Cv curves were drawn to better reveal the excellent kinetic properties of Na_(4)MnCr(PO_(4))_(3)@C@PvP@CNT cathode,and the mechanism of its performance improvement is deeply studied and ***,the co-doping of CNTs and PvP is a simple way to high conductivity and fast charging of cathode materials for SIBs.

Deep bed filtration model for cake filtration and erosion

Many phenomena in nature and technology are associated with the filtration of suspensions and colloids in porous media. Two main types of particle deposition,namely, cake filtration at the inlet and deep bed filtration throughout the entire porous medium, are studied by different models. A unified approach for the transport and deposition of particles based on the deep bed filtration model is proposed. A variable suspension flow rate, proportional to the number of free pores at the inlet of the porous medium, is considered. To model cake filtration, this flow rate is introduced into the mass balance equation of deep bed filtration. For the cake filtration without deposit erosion,the suspension flow rate decreases to zero, and the suspension does not penetrate deep into the porous medium. In the case of the cake filtration with erosion, the suspension flow rate is nonzero, and the deposit is distributed throughout the entire porous medium. An exact solution is obtained for a constant filtration function. The method of characteristics is used to construct the asymptotics of the concentration front of suspended and retained particles for a filtration function in a general form. Explicit formulae are obtained for a linear filtration function. The properties of these solutions are studied in detail.

regenerative approaches towards neuronal loss following traumatic brain or spinal cord injury have long been considered a dogma in neuroscience and remain a cutting-edge area of *** is reflected in a large disparity between the number of studies investigating primary and secondary injury as therapeutic to rgets in spinal co rd and traumatic brain *** advances in biotechnology may have the potential to reshape the current state-of-the-art and bring focus to primary injury neurotrauma *** studies using neural-glial factor/antigen 2(NG2)cells indicate that they may differentiate into neurons even in the developed *** these cells show great potential to play a regenerative role,studies have been conducted to test various manipulations in neurotrauma models aimed at eliciting a neurogenic response from *** the present study,we systematically reviewed the experimental protocols and findings described in the scientific literature,which were peer-reviewed original research articles(1)describing preclinical experimental studies,(2)investigating NG2 cells,(3)associated with neurogenesis and neurotrauma,and(4)in vitro and/or in vivo,available in PubMed/MEDLINE,Web of Science or SCOPUS,from 1998 to ***,we have reviewed a total of 1504 papers,and summarized findings that ultimately suggest that NG2 cells possess an inducible neurogenic potential in animal models and in *** also discriminate findings of NG2 neurogenesis promoted by different pharmacological and genetic approaches over functional and biochemical outcomes of traumatic brain injury and spinal co rd injury models,and provide mounting evidence for the potential benefits of manipulated NG2 cell ex vivo transplantation in primary injury *** findings indicate the feasibility of NG2 cell neurogenesis strategies and add new players in the development of therapeutic alternatives for neurotrauma.

In this study,a calcium-phosphate coating was formed on a Mg-Mn-Ce alloy by the plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO).The antibiotic vancomycin,widely used in the treatment of infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus(***),was impregnated into the *** with vancomycin showed high bactericidal activity against *** mechanical and electrochemical properties of the formed coatings were studied,as well as in vitro cytotoxicity tests and in vivo tests on mature male rats were *** to SEM,EDS,XrD and XPS data,coatings had a developed morphology and contained hydroxyapatite,which indicates high *** analysis of roughness of coatings without and with vancomycin did not reveal any differences,confirming the high roughness of the *** electrochemical tests,an increase in corrosion resistance by more than two times after the application of PEO coatings was *** to the results of an in vivo study,after 28 days of the implantation of samples with calcium phosphate PEO coating and vancomycin,no signs of inflammation were observed,while an inflammatory reaction developed in the area of implantation of bare alloy,followed by *** release tests from the coatings show a sharp decrease in the concentration of the released antibiotic on day 7 and then a gradual decrease until day *** the experiment,no significant deviations in the condition and behavior of the animals were observed;clinical tests did not reveal a systemic toxic reaction.
