This work describes the use of TiO_(2)nanotubes-based electrodes(TNT)modified with Cu_(2)O nanostructures and gold nanoparticles for the photoelectroreduction of CO_(2)to produce value-added compounds.A thin layer of polydopamine was used as both an adherent agent and an electron transfer mediator,due to itsπ-conjugated electron *** highest production yield was achieved using a TNT@PDA/Nc/Au40%electrode,with Faradaic efficiencies of 47.4%(110.5μM cm^(-2))and 27.8%(50.4μM cm^(-2))for methanol and methane,*** performance of the photoelectrodes was shown to be Cu_(2)O facet-dependent,with cubic structures leading to greater conversion of CO_(2)to methanol(43%)and methane(27%),compared to the octahedral morphology,while a higher percentage of metallic gold on the nanostructured Cu_(2)O surface was mainly important for *** functional theory(DFT)calculations supported these findings,attributing the superior photoelectrocatalytic performance of the TNT@PDA/Nc/Au40%electrode for CH4generation to the formation of an OCH3intermediate bonded to Au *** using isotope-labeling and analysis by gas chromatograph-mass(GC-MS)demonstrated that13CO_(2)was the source for photoelectrocatalytic generation of13CH3OH and13CH313CH2OH.

Effect of lead chloride on spermatogenesis and sperm parameters in mice

Aim: To evaluate the effect of acute lead chloride exposure on testis and sperm parameters in mice. Methods: PbCl2, 74 mg/kg, was daily administered to sexually mature male mice for 3 days and the effects on the testicular histology and ultrastructure as well as the motility and density of spermatozoa in cauda epididymis were observed. An additional group of mice were treated for 1-3 days and were allowed to recover for 32 days to determine the reversibility of lead-induced changes. results: The testicular weight, seminiferous tubular diameter and sperm counts were significantly decreased following 3 days of PbCl2 treatment, but were unaffected by shorter-term exposures. The changes caused by lead are mostly reversible. Conclusion: Acute lead chloride exposure injures the fertility parameters of male mice and the effects are partially reversible.

Injection of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells by intravenous or intraperitoneal routes is a viable alternative to spinal cord injury treatment in mice

In spite of advances in surgical care and rehabilitation, the consequences of spinal cord injury （SCI） are still challenging. Several experimental therapeutic strategies have been studied in the SCI field, and recent advances have led to the development of therapies that may act on the inhibitory microenvironment. Assorted lineages of stem cells are considered a good treatment for SCI. This study investigated the effect of systemic transplantation of mesenchymal stem cells （MSCs） in a compressive SCI model. Here we present results of the intraperitoneal route, which has not been used previously for MSC administration after compressive SCI. We used adult female C57BL/6 mice that underwent laminectomy at the T9 level, followed by spinal cord compression for 1 minute with a 30-g vascular clip. The animals were divided into five groups： sham （anesthesia and laminectomy but without compression injury induction）, MSC i.p. （intraperitoneal injection of 8×10^5 MSCs in 500 μL of DMEM at 7 days after SCI）, MSC i.v. （intravenous injection of 8 × 10^5 MSCs in 500μL of DMEM at 7 days after SCI）, DMEM i.p. （intraperitoneal injection of 500μL of DMEM at 7 days after SCI）, DMEM i.v. （intravenous injection of 500 μL of DMEM at 7 days after SCI）. The effects of MSCs transplantation in white matter sparing were analyzed by luxol fast blue staining. The number of preserved fibers was counted in semithin sections stained with toluidine blue and the presence of trophic factors was analyzed by immunohistochemistry. In addition, we analyzed the locomotor performance with Basso Mouse Scale and Global Mobility Test. Our results showed white matter preservation and a larger number of preserved fibers in the MSC groups than in the DMEM groups. Furthermore, the MSC groups had higher levels of trophic factors （brain-derived neurotrophic factor, nerve growth factor, neurotrophin-3 and neurotrophin-4） in the spinal cord and improved locomotor performance. The Challenges of the ＂Development From Above＂ and ＂Development From Below＂ in the Lobito Transport Corridor （Angola）

As the efforts to modernize the Lobito Transport Corridor in Angola advance, people＇s lived experiences are shaped by the interactions between official ＂developments from above＂ efforts and a myriad of inventive, often messy, adaptations that could be seen as ＂developments from below＂. As a result of a combination of a variety of adaptive strategies （of coping and accumulating） pursued by diverse kinds of rural and urban Angolans and of official projects to improve transport infrastructure and services, a transformation of society is in progress. Beyond the obvious utilitarian function, the transport system provides a window on many socio-economic and political facets of the region. From an assessment of the dynamics, effects, impacts and linkages, the modernization of the Lobito Corridor can be made part of a sustainable development and poverty-reduction strategy in the development process. Nevertheless, those dynamics have not induced maximum multiplier effects in terms of increased employment and income earning opportunities of the poor despite their improved mobility. The transport economy is a site of capital accumulation and change where social stratification goes in parallel with increased socio-economic inequality and precarious conditions in the labor transport market. To some extent the government is bound to reinforce long continuities by improving infrastructure. People then adapt to this framework and it partly serves but partly constrains development. In this context, an improved regulatory and institutional framework for the transport system （top-down approach） and an integration of the non-formal dynamics that have been developed within the real transport system with the formal ones （bottom up-top approach） is essential.

Focal liver lesions:Practical magnetic resonance imaging approach

With the widespread of cross-sectional imaging, a growth of incidentally detected focal liver lesions(FLL) has been observed. A reliable detection and characterization of FLL is critical for optimal patient management. Maximizing accuracy of imaging in the context of FLL is paramount in avoiding unnecessary biopsies, which may result in post-procedural complications. A tremendous development of new imaging techniques has taken place during these last years. Nowadays, Magnetic resonance imaging(MrI) plays a key role in management of liver lesions, using a radiation-free technique and a safe contrast agent profile. MrI plays a key role in the non-invasive correct characterization of FLL. MrI is capable of providing comprehensive and highly accurate diagnostic information, with the additional advantage of lack of harmful ionizing radiation. These properties make MrI the mainstay for the noninvasive evaluation of focal liver lesions. In this paper we review the state-of-the-art MrI liver protocol, briefly discussing different sequence types, the unique characteristics of imaging non-cooperative patients and discuss the role of hepatocyte-specific contrast agents. A review of the imaging features of the most common benign and malignant FLL is presented, supplemented by a schematic representation of a simplistic practical approach on MrI.

To the Editor： Xie et al, analyzed warfarin doses in pulmonary embolism （PE） and its adverse effects in patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome （OSAHS）. The key findings were that OSAHS patients required a significantly higher dose of warfarin than their non-OSAHS counterparts （4.73 mg vs. 3.61 mg, P 〈 0.001） and that PE recurrence was higher in OSAHS than in non-OSAHS groups after withdrawal ofwarfarin （21.43% vs. 6.78%, P = 0.047）.
