Oxidative Stress responsive <i>SErk1</i>Gene Directs the Progression of Somatic Embryogenesis in Cotton (<i>Gossypium hirsutum</i>L. cv. Coker 310)

Somatic embryogenesis (SE) is a prominent mode of regeneration in plants. The acquisition of SE is predominantly invoked by the oxidative stress which plays an important role in signal transduction and cellular redox. Since balanced generation of oxidants is important to cellular differentiation, modulation in cell redox could be responsive to genotypic refinement for SE. To study the dynamics of cellular redox during SE, we conducted comparative expression analyses of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum), using two independently purified near-isogenic lines for the trait of SE. We interrogated expression changes in cell-signaling factor Somatic Embryogenesis receptor kinase (SErk) and activity of antioxidant Glutathione in different developmental stages including cotyledonary leaf, calli from different stages of regeneration of fully-regenerating (Fr) and non-regenerating (Nr) lines of Coker310 cultivar. At evolutionary scale, the cotton SErks showed high sequence similarity in receptor kinase domain with diverse systems. Exclusively, SErk1 responsible for potential signaling processes during SE revealed significant expression up-regulation in the embryogenic calli of Fr line. Similarly, activity of antioxidant glutathione was substantially up-regulated in embryogenic calli of Fr line in comparison to its counterpart form. In contrast, calli from early-stages of regeneration of both Fr and Nr lines had no significant influences on the regulation of SErk and glutathione levels prior to the acquisition of embryogenesis. These results highlight that in vitro purification of Fr line in cotton for enhanced regeneration potential (through SE) resulted in signaling and metabolic transformations of the manner in which cellular redox levels have become modulated.

For the last few decades,the parameter estimation of electromagnetic plane waves i.e.,far field sources,impinging on antenna array geometries has attracted a lot of researchers due to their use in radar,sonar and under water acoustic *** this work,nature inspired heuristics based on the flower pollination algorithm(FPA)is designed for the estimation problem of amplitude and direction of arrival of far field sources impinging on uniform linear array(ULA).Using the approximation in mean squared error sense,a fitness function of the problem is developed and the strength of the FPA is utilized for optimization of the cost function representing scenarios for various number of sources non-coherent located in the far *** worth of the proposed FPA based nature inspired computing heuristic is established through assessment studies on fitness,histograms,cumulative distribution function and box plots *** other worthy perks of the proposed scheme include simplicity of concept,ease in the implementation,extendibility and wide range of applicability to solve complex optimization *** salient features make the proposed approach as an attractive alternative to be exploited for solving different parameter estimation problems arising in nonlinear systems,power signal modelling,image processing and fault diagnosis.

Designing and Modeling of Efficient resonant Photo Acoustic Sensors for Spectroscopic Applications

We report the modeling and designing aspects of different types of photo-acoustic (PA) cell based on the excitation of longitudinal, radial and azimuthal mode using CW and pulse lasers. The results are obtained by employing fluid dynamics equations along with Bessel’s function. The obtained results based on stimulation of longitudinal, radial and azimuthally resonance modes of the Photo acoustic signals in the suitable cavity. This is utilized to design highly efficient low volume PA detector for the spectroscopic studies of different types of atmospheric pollutants. We have also studied the dependence of the excited photo acoustic signals on various parameters such as cell radius, laser power, absorption coefficient, quality factor ‘Q’ along with the first longitudinal, radial, azimuthal mode and the pressure. The simulated results show the linearity of the PA signal with different concentration of the gas sample.

Laser-Induced Graphite Plasma kinetic Spectroscopy under Different Ambient Pressures

The laser induced plasma dynamics of graphite material are investigated by optical emission spectroscopy. Abla- tion and excitation of the graphite material is performed by using an 1064nm Nd：YAG laser in different ambient pressures. Characteristics of graphite spectra as line intensity variations and signal-to-noise ratio are presented with a main focus on the influence of the ambient pressure on the interaction of laser-induced graphite plasma with an ambient environment. Atomic emission lines are utilized to investigate the dynamical behavior of plasma, such as the excitation temperature and electron density, to describe emission differences under different ambient conditions. The excitation temperature and plasma electron density are the primary factors which contribute to the differences among the atomic carbon emission at different ambient pressures. reactions between the plasma species and ambient gas, and the total molecular number are the main factors influencing molecular carbon emis- sion. The influence of laser energy on the plasma interaction with environment is also investigated to demonstrate the dynamical behavior of carbon species so that it can be utilized to optimize plasma fluctuations.

Ecological Consequences of Land Use Change: Forest Structure and regeneration across the Forest-grassland Ecotone in Mountain Pastures in Nepal

The ecotone, the spatial transition zone between two vegetation communities, is claimed to have more species than the adjoining communities. However, empirical studies do not always confirm higher richness at the ecotone. The ecotone position and structure are dynamic over time and space and it is driven by the changes in climate, land use or their interaction. In this context, we assessed the forest- grassland ecotone of temperate mountains in central Nepal by i） comparing species composition and richness across the ecotone, ii） analyzing if the forestgrassland ecotone is shifting towards the grassland center by colonizing them with trees, and iii） discussing the consequence of changed disturbance regime in the dynamics of this ecotone and the surrounding grasslands. We analyzed vegetation data sampled from belt transects laid across the forest- grassland ecotone in semi-natural grassland patches. Vegetation data consisting of species richness and composition, and size structure and regeneration of the two most dominant tree species, namely rhododendron arboreum and Abies spectabilis, from the transects, were used to analyze the trend of the forest-grassland ecotone. Forest and grasslands were different in terms of floristic composition and diversity. Vascular plant speciesrichness linearly increased while moving from forest interior to grassland center. Spatial pattern of tree size structure and regeneration infers that forest boundary is advancing towards the grasslands at the expense of the grassland area, and tree establishment in the grasslands is part of a suceessional process. Temporally, tree establishment in grasslands started following the gradual decline in disturbance. We argue that local processes in terms of changed land use may best explain the phenomenon of ecotone shift and consequent forest expansion in these grasslands. Palliative surgical bypass for unresectable periampullary carcinoma

BACkGrOUND:Around 60%to 80%of patients with periampullary carcinoma are unresectable either due to distant metastasis or local vascular *** the advancement of endoscopic interventional procedures,the role of surgical bypass has ***,surgical bypass is still appropriate in patients with unresectable disease discovered at the time of *** study was conducted to assess the results of palliative surgical bypass for patients with unresectable periampullary carcinoma at our hospital,a tertiary referral center of Northern India. METHOD:The study group comprised 204 patients who had undergone surgical bypass for advanced periampullary carcinoma over the last 15 years. rESULTS:Between January 1990 and December 2004,204 patients(128 males,76 females)consisting of 179 patients with carcinoma of head of the pancreas,14 patients with ampullary carcinoma,8 patients with lower end cholangiocarcinoma and 3 patients with duodenal carcinoma underwent surgical *** average age was 51 years (range 20-78 years).Both biliary and gastric bypasses were done in 158(77.45%),biliary bypass alone in 37(18.13%) and gastric bypass alone in 9(4.32%).Biliary bypass was done by roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy,and gastric bypass by retrocolic *** overall postoperative mortality and morbidity were 0.98%and 26.9%,respectively The patients who died had undergone previously endoscopic *** included wound infection in 12.25%of the patients,bile leak in 5.12%,delayed gastric emptying in 5.38%,ascitic leak from drains in 8.8%,and upper gastrointestinal bleeding in 1.96%.The incidences of wound infection and bile leak both were significantly higher in patients who had had preoperative biliary stenting None of the patients who had undergone roux-en-Y hepati cojejunostomy+retrocolic gastrojejunostomy required any intervention later in their ***:Surgical bypass is a safe procedure with negligible mortality and minimal mo

Euglycemic diabetic ketoacidosis(DkA)is an acute life-threatening metabolic emergency characterized by ketoacidosis and relatively lower blood glucose(less than 11 mmol/L).The absence of hyperglycemia is a conundrum for physicians in the emergency department and intensive care units;it may delay diagnosis and treatment causing worse *** DkA is an uncommon diagnosis but can occur in patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes *** the addition of sodium/glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors in diabetes mellitus management,euglycemic DkA incidence has *** other causes of euglycemic DkA include pregnancy,fasting,bariatric surgery,gastroparesis,insulin pump failure,cocaine intoxication,chronic liver disease and glycogen storage *** pathophysiology of euglycemic DkA involves a relative or absolute carbohydrate deficit,milder degree of insulin deficiency or resistance and increased glucagon/insulin *** DkA is a diagnosis of exclusion and should be considered in the differential diagnosis of a sick patient with a history of diabetes mellitus despite lower blood glucose or absent urine *** diagnostic workup includes arterial blood gas for metabolic acidosis,serum ketones and exclusion of other causes of high anion gap metabolic *** DkA treatment is on the same principles as for DkA with correction of dehydration,electrolytes deficit and insulin *** dextrosecontaining fluids should accompany intravenous insulin to correct metabolic acidosis,ketonemia and to avoid hypoglycemia.

recent reports from World Health Organization(WHO)show the impact of human negligence as a serious concern for road accidents and casualties *** are number of reasons which led to this negligence;hence,need of intelligent transportation system(ITS)gains more attention from researchers *** achieving such autonomy different sensors are involved in autonomous vehicles which can sense road conditions and warn the control system about possible *** work is focused on designing one such sensor system which can detect and range multiple targets under the impact of adverse atmospheric conditions.A high-speed Linear Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave(LFMCW)based Photonic radar is proposed to detect multiple targets by integrating Mode division multiplexing(MDM).reported results in terms of range frequency,Doppler frequency and range resolution are demonstrated using numerical simulations with the bandwidths of 1 and 4 GHz and under adverse atmospheric conditions carrying 75 dB/km of *** prove the effectiveness of the proposed photonic radar,moving targets are also demonstrated with different *** reported substantial range resolution of 15 cm using 1 GHz of bandwidth and 3 cm using 4 GHz of bandwidth.

rationale: Microbial keratitis caused by coinfection with more than one species of pathogens is a severe condition with an unfavorable prognosis. Patient concerns: An immunocompetent Nepali woman complained of pain in the left eye, redness, watering and decreased vision for 5 months. Interventions: The patient was discarded and accurately diagnosed with coinfection with Fusarium sp. and Acanthamoeba sp. The habit of washing the eyes with tap water from a domestic storage tank was the most likely source of infection since it was found to be contaminated with cysts of Acanthamoeba sp. The woman received eye drops of fluconazole and natamycin(5%), cefazoline(50 mg/m L), atropine, and tablets of itraconazole(100 mg), which were later switched to eye drops of clotrimazole(1%), natamycin(5%) and voriconazole(1%), and tablets of itraconazole. A full thickness penetrating keratoplasty was performed followed by treatment with eye drops of voriconazole(1%), natamet(5%), ofloxacin, atropine and carboxymethylcellulose for one ***: After treatment, the condition of the patient significantly improved and was discharged one week after keratoplasty. Lessons: This is the first report of Acanthamoeba keratitis in Nepal and the first report of coinfection with Fusarium in this country and highlights the importance of early diagnosis of microbial keratitis both in single microorganism infections and coinfections, even in no contact lens wearers.
