Defect-mediated energy transfer is an energy transfer process between midgap electronic states in a semiconductor nanocrystal(NC)and molecular acceptors,such as fluorescent dye ***-resolution fluorescence microscopy represents an exciting technique for pinpointing the nanoscale positions of lattice defect sites in,for example,a micrometer-sized particle or thin film sample by spatially resolving the location of the acceptor dye molecules with nanometer *** this goal,our group performed ensemble-level,time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy measure-ments of ZnO NC/Alexafluor 555(A555)mixtures and calculated that the emissive defect sites are located,on average,0.5 nm from the NC surface[Nilsson,Z.N.;et ***.2021,154(5),054704].However,ensemble-level measurements cannot spatially resolve the defect sites on single particles,nor can they distinguish between surface-adsorbed dye molecules that participate in the energy transfer(EnT)process from those that do *** this work,we compared the photoluminescence intensity trajectories of 789 isolated,single ZnO NC donors to those of 73 non-specifically bound and five specifically bound ZnO NC/A555 pairs,where the donor and acceptor centroid positions were separated by a distance that was smaller than our localization precision(40 nm).We observed minor fluorescence intensity fluctuations in the donor and defect channels instead of clear anticorrelated intensity fluctuations,which could be explained by(1)the presence of multiple emissive defect sites per NC,(2)donor-acceptor separation distances slightly larger than the Förster radius(r_(0)=3.1 nm;defined as the distance at which EnT is 50%efficient),and/or(3)poor dipole-dipole *** single molecule imaging methodology we developed,an alternating ultraviolet-visible excitation sequence combined with multicolor photon detection,successfully distinguishes specifically bound and non-specifically bound NC/dye pairs and can be applied to

BACKGrOUND:Three types of progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis(PFIC)have been identified,but their etiologies include unknown mechanisms. DATA SOUrCES:A PubMed search on'progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis'and'PFIC'was performed on the topic,and the relevant articles were reviewed. rESULTS:The etiologies of the three PFIC types still include unknown *** in PFIC type 1,enterohepatic circulation of bile acid should be *** acid,partial external biliary diversion and liver transplantation have been used for the treatment of PFIC patients according to disease course. CONCLUSIONS:Since the etiologies and disease mechanisms of PFIC are still unclear,detailed studies are urgently required. Strategies for more advanced therapies are also *** developments in the future are indispensable,especially for PFIC type 1 patients.

Improving cirrhosis care: The potential for telemedicine and mobile health technologies

Decompensated cirrhosis is a condition associated with significant morbidity and mortality. While there have been significant efforts to develop quality metrics that ensure high-value care of these patients, wide variations in clinical practice exist. In this opinion review, we discuss the quality gap in the care of patients with cirrhosis, including low levels of compliance with recommended cancer screening and other clinical outcome and patient-reported outcome measures. We posit that innovations in telemedicine and mobile health (mHealth) should play a key role in closing the quality gaps in liver disease management. We highlight interventions that have been performed to date in liver disease and heart failurefrom successful teleconsultation interventions in the care of veterans with cirrhosis to the use of telemonitoring to reduce hospital readmissions and decrease mortality rates in heart failure. Telemedicine and mHealth can effectively address unmet needs in the care of patients with cirrhosis by increasing preventative care, expanding outreach to rural communities, and increasing high-value care. We aim to highlight the benefits of investing in innovative solutions in telemedicine and mHealth to improve care for patients with cirrhosis and create downstream cost savings.

This research on Performance and Design of Stone Mastic Asphalt （SMA-13） use different materials such as a Binder, aggregate, filler and *** Tests such as Penetration Point, Softening Point, Viscosity, and Storage Stability were conducted for SBS Modified Asphalt. It found that it has proved to have a high resistance to plastic deformation from heavy vehicle loads at high temperatures, while at the same time exhibiting good low temperature properties. which has very good rut resistance properties and excellent durability in addition, several asphalt mixture tests including the marshall stability test, high temperature test, rutting test, cantabro loss test, water damage test, were also performed on SMA *** materials were found to be good alternative materials for SMA-13 mixes.

Developing a flexible,light-weight and effective electromagnetic(EM)absorber remains challenging despite being on increasing demand as more wearable devices and portable electronics are ***,we report a flexible and lightweight hybrid paper by a facile vacuumfiltration-induced self-assembly process,in which cotton-derived carbon fibers serve as flexible skeletons,compactly surrounded by other microwave-attenuating components(reduced graphene oxide and Fe3O4@C nanowires).Owing to its unique architecture and synergy of the three components,the asprepared hybrid paper exhibits flexible and lightweight features as well as superb microwave absorption *** absorption intensity with reflection loss as low as-63 dB can be achieved,and its broadest frequency absorption bandwidth of 5.8 GHz almost covers the entire Ku *** a hybrid paper is promising to cope with ever-increasing EM *** work also paves the way to develop low-cost and flexible EM wave absorber from biomass through a facile method.

Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH)is the most common chronic liver disease worldwide,and the fastest growing indication for liver transplantation in the United *** is now the leading etiology for liver transplantation in women,the second leading indication for men,and the most common cause amongst recipients aged 65 years and *** with end-stage liver disease related to NASH represent a unique and challenging patient population due the high incidence of associated comorbid diseases,including obesity,type 2 diabetes(T2D),and *** challenges manifest in the pre-liver transplantation period with increased waitlist times and waitlist ***,these patients carry considerable risk of morbidity and mortality both before after liver transplantation,with high rates of T2D,cardiovascular disease,chronic kidney disease,poor nutrition,and disease *** transplantation for these patients requires identification and management of their comorbidities in the face of liver *** evaluations include a thorough pre-transplant workup with a complete cardiac evaluation,control of diabetes,nutritional support,and even,potentially,consultation with a bariatric *** article provides a comprehensive review of the conditions and challenges facing patients with NASH cirrhosis undergoing liver transplantation and provides recommendations for evaluation and management to optimize them before liver transplantation to produce successful outcomes.

surgery and radiation have both been shown to increase the longterm diseasespecific survival rate for men with din icaUy localized prostate cancer. Although both modalities have demonstrated favor able effects on cancer control, questions regarding quality of life （QoL） and func tional outcomes remain incompletely answered. To date, no randomized prospective trials have been performed comparing the two treatment modalities and so indirect compar isons of longterm functional outcomes have served as a substitute to aid in patient coun seling and decisionmaking. As there is a pau city of longterm data comparing functional outcomes after radical prostatectomy and external beam radiation therapy, a recent art icle by resnick et al.,1 has attempted to pro vide additional information about this topic in terms of continence, erectile function and bowel function. Utilizing the Prostate Cancer Outcomes Study cohort, a populationbased cohort of men diagnosed with prostate cancer in the pro statespecific antigen （PSA） era, the authors compared rates of urinary incontinence, erect ile dysfunction, and bowel urgency at 2, 5 and 15 years after primary therapy. They showed that men undergoing prostatectomy had higher rates of incontinence and erectile dys function at 2 and 5 years, but these rates were similar to those in the radiotherapy group at 15 years. More specifically, men were approxi mately five times more likely to have urinary continence issues if they underwent prostatec tomv versus radiotherapy and almost three anda half times more likely to develop erectile dys function in the short to intermediateterm following primary treatment. As expected, rates of bowel urgency were higher in the radio therapy group at 2 and 5 years, but not sig nificantly different from the surgery group at 15 years. Spinal cord injury results in the loss of motor and sensory pathways and spontaneous regeneration of adult mammalian spinal cord neurons is limited. Chitosan and sodium alginate have good biocompatibility, biodegradability, and are suitable to assist the recovery of damaged tissues, such as skin, bone and nerve. Chitosan scaffolds, sodium alginate scaffolds and chitosan-sodium alginate scaffolds were separately transplanted into rats with spinal cord hemisection. Basso-Beattie-Bresnahan locomotor rating scale scores and electrophysiological results showed that chitosan scaffolds promoted recovery of locomotor capacity and nerve transduction of the experimental *** days after surgery, chitosan scaffolds retained the original shape of the spinal cord. Compared with sodium alginate scaffolds- and chitosan-sodium alginate scaffolds-transplanted rats, more neurofilament-H-immunoreactive cells （regenerating nerve fibers） and less glial fibrillary acidic protein-immunoreactive cells （astrocytic scar tissue） were observed at the injury site of experimental rats in chitosan scaffold-transplanted rats. Due to the fast degradation rate of sodium alginate, sodium alginate scaffolds and composite material scaffolds did not have a supporting and bridging effect on the damaged tissue. Above all, compared with sodium alginate and composite material scaffolds, chitosan had better biocompatibility, could promote the regeneration of nerve fibers and prevent the formation of scar tissue,and as such, is more suitable to help the repair of spinal cord injury.
