The power of a healthy lifestyle for cancer prevention:the example of colorectal cancer

Objective:We aimed to directly compare the estimated effects of adherence to a healthy lifestyle with those of risk predisposition according to known genetic variants affecting colorectal cancer(CrC)risk,to support effective risk communication for cancer ***:A healthy lifestyle score(HLS)was derived from 5 lifestyle factors:smoking,alcohol consumption,diet,physical activity,and body *** association of lifestyle and polygenic risk score(PrS)(based on 140 CrC-associated risk loci)with CrC risk was assessed with multiple logistic regression and compared through the genetic risk equivalent(GrE),a novel approach providing an estimate of the effects of adherence to a healthy lifestyle in terms of percentile differences in ***:A higher HLS was associated with lower CrC risk(4,844 cases,3,964 controls).Those adhering to all 5 healthy lifestyle factors had a 62%(95%CI 54%-68%)lower CrC risk than those adhering to≤2 healthy lifestyle *** estimated effect of adherence to all 5 compared with≤2 healthy lifestyle factors was as strong as the effect of having a 79 percentile(GrE 79,95%CI 61-97)lower *** association between a healthy lifestyle and CrC risk was independent of PrS level but was particularly pronounced among those with a family history of CrC in≥1 first-degree relative(P-interaction=0.0013).Conclusions:A healthy lifestyle was strongly inversely associated with CrC *** large GrE indicated that CrC risk determined by polygenic risk may be offset to a substantial extent by adherence to a healthy lifestyle.

＜正＞近两年我国对页岩气的兴趣浓厚,政府放开页岩气市场,先后进行了两次页岩气区块招标,一些缺乏油气勘探开发背景的公司开始从事页岩气研究,涉及的区块遍及大江南北,呈现了一片繁荣景象。然而,目前我国在页岩气勘探开发领域的技术储备还比较薄弱,不适合仓促的开辟页岩气探区,而应集中力量首先在四川盆地、鄂尔多斯盆地等地质资料丰富的地区识别页岩气有利区,从而降低风险。泥页岩岩相近年来发展迅速,是在区域或盆地尺度上识别页岩气有利区的有效技术手段[1]。

We report an improved measurement of the neutrino mixing angle θ13 from the Daya Bay reactor Neutrino Experiment. We exclude a zero value for sin22θ13 with a significance of 7.7 standard deviations. Electron antineutrinos from six reactors of 2.9 GWm th were detected in six antineutrino detectors deployed in two near （flux-weighted baselines of 470 m and 576 m） and one far （1648 m） underground experimental halls. Using 139 days of data, 28909 （205308） electron antineutrino candidates were detected at the far hall （near halls）. The ratio of the observed to the expected number of antineutrinos assuming no oscillations at the far hall is 0.944± 0.007（stat.） ± 0.003（syst.）. An analysis of the relative rates in six detectors finds sin22θ13=0.089± 0.010（stat.）±0.005（syst.） in a three-neutrino framework.

Comparing outcomes from the two most recognized acupuncturist workforce surveys

OBJECTIVE： To determine the informational consistency produced by the two most recent independent surveys and draw a conclusion whether the data would be sufficient for the National Center for Health Workforce Analysis and Bureau of Labor and Statistics consideration. METHODS： This paper compares workforce outcomes collected by the two most prominent acupuncture entities that have produced the most useful acupuncturist workforce data （California Acupuncture Board 2015 Occupational Analysis and the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine^2013 Job Analysis） at national and state levels. rESULTS： Findings based upon the most compatible survey questions showed the following： more than 70% of acupuncturists work fewer than 40 hours weekly; approximately 76% work in solo practice or in shared space with other acupuncturists; more than 70% of the national sample have been in practice 15 years or less; and median income is between $40 000 and $50 000. A preponderance of acupuncturists is less than 50 years of age, and fewer than 15% of all respondents have been in practice more than 20 years. CONCLUSION： Basic workforce information is a necessary precursor for conducting workforce projections. It is useful to track the expansion or contraction of any given profession. Tracking influences subsequent planning for the profession based upon reliable and valid information about its growth. The ability of the profession to collect its own workforce data is paramount to workforce projection models. Any future survey should be a shared project that follows guidelines supported by the National Center for Health Workforce Analysis.

Shrinkage of magnetosphere observed by TC-1 satellite during the high-speed solar wind stream

During the interval 06:14―07:30 UT on August 24, 2005, since the Earth’s magneto- pause was suddenly compressed by the persistent high-speed solar wind stream with the southward component of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF), the magnetopause moved inward for about 3.1 rE. Meanwhile, TC-1 satellite shifted from northern plasma sheet to the northern lobe/mantle region, although it kept inward flying during the interval 06:00―07:30UT. The shift of TC-1 from the plasma sheet to the lobe/mantle is caused by the simultaneous inward displacements of the plasma sheet and near-Earth lobe/mantle region, and their inward movement velocity is larger than the inward motion velocity of TC-1. The joint inward dis-placements of the magnetopause, the lobe/mantle region and the plasma sheet indicate that the whole magnetosphere shrinks inward due to the magnetospheric compression by the high-speed solar wind stream, and the magnetospheric ions are attached to the magnetic field lines (i.e. ‘frozen’ in magnetic field) and move inward in the shrinking process of magnetosphere. The large shrinkage of magne-tosphere indicates that the near-Earth magnetotail compression caused by the strong solar wind dynamic pressure is much larger than its thickening caused by the southward component of the IMF, and the locations of magnetospheric regions with different plasmas vary remarkably with the variation of the solar wind dynamic pressure.

Macroscopic superposition states of ultracold bosons in a double-well potential

We present a thorough description of the physical regimes for ultracold bosons in double wells, with special attention paid to macroscopic superpositions （MSs）. We use a generalization of the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick Hamiltonian of up to eight single particle modes to study these MSs, solving the Hamiltonian with a combination of numerical exact diagonalization and high-order perturbation theory. The MS is between left and right potential wells; the extreme case with all atoms simulta- neously located in both wells and in only two modes is the famous NOON state, but our approach encompasses much more general MSs. Use of more single particle modes brings dimensionality into the problem, allows us to set hard limits on the use of the original two-mode LMG model com- monly treated in the literature, and also introduces a mixed Josephson-Fock regime. Higher modes introduce angular degrees of freedom and MS states with different angular properties.

Near-Earth bursty bulk flows and AE index

With the 4-s resolution data of the magnetometer and the ion plasma analyzer on TC-1 from June to November of each year during the period of 2004―2006, we statistically analyzed the occurrence rate of both convective and field-aligned bursty flows (FABFs). A near-Earth bursty bulk flow (NEBBF) occurred during both the quiet time and substorm process. In general, the magnetic field and the plasma density began oscillating with the appearance of the NEBBF associated with a distinct increase of the AE index. The increase of AE index during the NEBBF was more than 100 nT in both quiet time and substorm process. The statistical analysis indicated that the occurrence rates of the FABFs were nearly the same in the dif-ferent stages of the AE index, but the occurrence rate of the NEBBFs was much higher in the growth stage of the AE index, indicating that the NEBBFs were di-rectly related to the growth and expansion phases of the substorm. The observa-tions suggested that the quite large number of BBFs from the mid magnetotail could enter into the near-Earth tail and play important role in triggering the sub-storm onset.

Solar wind transport into magnetosphere caused by magnetic reconnection at high latitude magnetopause during northward IMF: Cluster-DSP conjunction observations

An event of Cluster-Double Star conjunction observations of magnetic reconnec-tion at high latitude magnetopause nightside of both cusps and solar wind trans-port into magnetosphere caused by such reconnection process has been investi-gated. During northward IMF, Cluster/SC1 observed accelerated flows and ion heating associated with magnetic reconnection at high latitude magnetopause nightside of southern cusp. And Double Star observed cold dense solar wind plasma transported into dayside magnetosphere. The analysis on such conjunction observations shows that: (1) during northward IMF, magnetic reconnection occurs at high latitude nightside of southern cusp, accompanied by accelerated flows that are observed by Cluster/SC1; (2) the direction of the accelerated flows, with its sunward component Vx, dawnward component Vy, northward component Vz, is quite consistent with the theoretical anticipation under the condition of northward IMF with dawnward component By; (3) reconnection can heat plasma more in par-allel direction than in perpendicular direction, to a level of about 4 keV; (4) with reconnection taking place at high latitude magnetopause nightside of the southern cusp, TC-1 observed cold and dense plasma transported into magnetosphere; (5) by reconnection at high latitude magnetopause nightside of both cusps, solar wind flux tube can be captured by magnetosphere and pulled into dayside magneto-sphere. This event presents further observational evidence for magnetic reconnec-tion at high latitude magnetopause nightside of both cusps as an important mech-anism of sol-ar w-ind transport into magnetosphere.
