A new sulfonamide, 4-{（4-nitrophenylsulfonamido）methyl}cyclohexanecarboxylic acid（C14H18N2O6S）, has been synthesized by the reaction of tranexamic acid and 4-nitrobenzenesulfonyl chloride in basic medium at room temperature. The molecular structure was determined by FT-Ir, NMr, elemental analysis and single-crystal X-ray technique. X-ray diffraction shows that the compound crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P21/c with a = 13.5980（7）, b = 4.9877（2）, c = 23.3878（13） A, β = 93.254（3）°, Z = 4, V = 1583.67（14） A3, μ = 0.237 mm-1, F（000） = 720, r = 0.0471 and w r = 0.1182. The molecules are related by inversion and paired into dimers via C–H…O interactions. The dimmers are interlinked due to strong N–H…O bonds, where O-atoms are of sulfonyl groups. The molecules are stabilized in the form of infinite two-dimensional network with base vectors [0 1 0] and [0 0 –1] in the plane（1 0 2）. The existence of good intermolecular interactions suggests the biological importance of the synthesized molecule. The compound was screened for its interaction with FS-DNA using UV-visible spectroscopy. UV-visible spectroscopic results depict that the compound interacts with DNA by mixed binding mode intercalation along with hydrogen bonding. Negative values of ΔG（–23.34, –17.79 k J·mol-1） indicate spontaneity of the compound-DNA adduct formation.

Silver(Ag)plasma has been generated by employing Nd:YAG laser(532 nm,6 ns)laser *** energy and flux of ions have been evaluated by using Faraday cup(FC)using time of flight(TOF)*** dual peak signals of fast and slow Ag plasma ions have been *** energy and flux of fast and slow ions tend to increase with increasing irradiance from 7 GW cm-2 to 17.9 GW cm-2 at all distances of FC from the target *** a decreasing trend of energies and flux of ions has been observed with increasing distance of FC from the *** maximum value of flux of the fast component is21.2×10^(10) cm^(-2),whereas for slow ions the maximum energy and flux values are 8.8 keV,8.2×10^(10) cm^(-2) *** the analysis of plume expansion dynamics,the angular distribution of ion flux measurement has also been *** overall analysis of both spatial and angular distributions of Ag ions revealed that the maximum flux of Ag plasma ions has been observed at an optimal angle of~15°.In order to confirm the ion acceleration by ambipolar field,the self-generated electric field(SGEF)measurements have also been performed by electric probe;these SGEF measurements tend to increase by increasing laser *** maximum value of 232 V m^(-1) has been obtained at a maximum laser irradiance of 17.9 GW cm^(-2).

BACKGrOUND: Fulminant hepatic failure (FHF) is not uncommon in our clinical practice in Bangladesh. There was a rise in acute hepatitis E virus (HEV) in Bangladesh after the 2004 floods. At that time, most of the country was under water for more than a month, leading to sewage contamination of the water supply. The aim of this study was to investigate the etiology of FHF in Bangladesh. METHODS: In this retrospective study, 23 patients with FHF who presented with severe impairment of hepato- cellular function (i.e. encephalopathy, coagulopathy and jaundice) within 6 months of onset of symptoms were included. There were 17 men and 6 women, aged from 18 to 32 years. Four of the women were pregnant. Patients were tested for markers for common hepatotrophic viruses. A relevant history was taken and the Patient record Book of the Unit was reviewed. rESULTS: 56.52% patients (13/23) had HEV infection, and all were anti-HEV IgM-positive tested by ELISA. HBV infection was detected in 34.78% patients (8/23), all of whom were tested positive for either HBsAg or anti-HBs IgM by ELISA. 8.7% patients (2/23) had a positive history for intake of alcohol and/or drugs. CONCLUSIONS: Acute HEV infection is the leading cause of FHF in Bangladesh. Sewage contamination of the water supply following floods contributes to a higher incidence of HEV infection. HBV infection is also important.

Assessment of Genetic Variation Within Indian Mustard (Brassica juncea) Germplasm Using random Amplified Polymorphic DNA Markers

Genetic diversity among 45 Indian mustard （Brassica juncea L.） genotypes comprising 37 germplasm collections, five advance breeding lines and three improved cultivars was investigated at the DNA level using the random amplified polymorphic DNA （rAPD） technique. Fifteen primers used generated a total of 92 rAPD fragments, of which 81 （88%） were polymorphic. Of these, 13 were unique to accession ‘Pak85559＇. Each primer produced four to nine amplified products with an average of 6.13 bands per primer. Based on pairwise comparisons of rAPD amplification products, Nei and Li＇s similarity coefficients were calculated to evaluate the relationships among the accessions. Pairwise similarity indices were higher among the oilseed accessions and cultivars showing narrow ranges of 0.77-0.99. An unweighted pair-group method with arithmetic averages cluster analysis based on these genetic similarities placed most of the collections and oilseed cultivars close to each other, showing a low level of polymorphism between the accessions used. However, the clusters formed by oilseed collections and cultivars were comparatively distinct from that of advanced breeding lines. Genetically, all of the accessions were classified into a few major groups and a number of individual accessions. Advanced breeding lines were relatively divergent from the rest of the accessions and formed independent clusters. Clustering of the accessions did not show any pattern of association between the rAPD markers and the collection sites. A low level of genetic variability of oilseed mustard was attributed to the selection for similar traits and horticultural uses. Perhaps close parentage of these accessions further contributed towards their little diversity. The study demonstrated that rAPD is a simple and fast technique to compare the genetic relationship and pattern of variation among the gene pool of this crop.

Use of Scrapped rubber Tires for Sustainable Construction of Manhole Covers

Scrapped tires from vehicles are produced in large quantities. Despite numerous existing uses of scrapped tires, alarge quantity ends up at the landfill sites, which contributes to environmental degradation. The development ofmore applications of scrapped tire usage can reduce the disposal of tires at landfill sites. This research proposes anovel use of scrapped tires by using the strips taken from scrapped tires in replacement of steel bars as reinforcement. Manhole covers were produced using scrapped tires by completely replacing the steel with scrapped *** different samples of manhole covers were prepared and tested. The highest bearing capacity of 25.5 kN wasrecorded with a sample of 100 mm thickness made with cementitious composite, which is 2.25 times higher thanthe bearing capacity of a conventional reinforced-concrete manhole cover. The use of manhole covers made withscrapped tires can effectively address the theft issue of manhole covers. The lifecycle cost analysis shows that themanhole cover made with scrapped tires is 3.4 times more cost-effective in comparison with the conventionalmanhole cover. This research shows a new avenue of the potential use of scrapped tires as reinforcement in structures, which can improve sustainable construction practices.

The dispersion relation for general dust low frequency electrostatic surface waves propagating on an interface between a magnetized dusty plasma region and a vacuum is derived by using specular reflection boundary conditions both in classical and quantum regimes. The frequency limit ω ≤ωei ≤ ωce is considered and the dispersion relation for the Dust-Lower-Hybrid Surface Waves （DLHSW＇s） is derived for both classical and quantum plasma half-space and analyzed numerically. It is shown that the wave behavior changes as the quantum nature of the problem is considered.

Developing effective and long-term treatment strategies for rare and complex neurodegenerative diseases is challenging. One of the major roadblocks is the extensive heterogeneity among patients. This hinders understanding the underlying disease-causing mechanisms and building solutions that have implications for a broad spectrum of patients. One potential solution is to develop personalized medicine approaches based on strategies that target the most prevalent cellular events that are perturbed in patients. Especially in patients with a known genetic mutation, it may be possible to understand how these mutations contribute to problems that lead to neurodegeneration. Protein–protein interaction analyses offer great advantages for revealing how proteins interact, which cellular events are primarily involved in these interactions, and how they become affected when key genes are mutated in patients. This line of investigation also suggests novel druggable targets for patients with different mutations. Here, we focus on alsin and spastin, two proteins that are identified as “causative” for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and hereditary spastic paraplegia, respectively, when mutated. Our review analyzes the protein interactome for alsin and spastin, the canonical pathways that are primarily important for each protein domain, as well as compounds that are either Food and Drug Administration–approved or are in active clinical trials concerning the affected cellular pathways. This line of research begins to pave the way for personalized medicine approaches that are desperately needed for rare neurodegenerative diseases that are complex and heterogeneous.

Using a bidentate ligand, a Schiff base 4-（{[（Z）-（2-hydroxyphenyl）methyldene]amino}methyl）cyclohexanecarboxylic acid, complex I（ML2, where M = Cd（Ⅱ）） was synthesized and characterized by Ir spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. It crystallizes in monoclinic system, space group C2/c, M_r = 685.04, 0.34 mm × 0.26 mm × 0.14 mm, a = 54.050（3）, b = 6.1220（3）, c = 9.5081（5） A, β = 90.229（2）°, Z = 4, C_（30） H_（40） CdN_2 O_9 and V = 3146.2（3） A^3. Complex I was screened for its bactericidal activity against four bacterial strains Chromohalobactersalexigens, Chromohalobacterisraelensis, Halomonashalofila and Halomonassalina and fungicidal activity against Aspergillusnigerand Aspergillusflavus. Antimicrobial activity results showed that the synthesized complex displayed good anti-fungal activity against two fungal strains. It was found to be inactive against four different bacterial strains analyzed and was negative for bactericidal effect.
