A novel layer.deletion method is used to exper.mentally investigate the effect of induced shielding cur.ent tr.nsmission (ISCT) in the longitudinal dir.ction on the levitation for.e of a single-domain YBa2Cu3O7?x (YBCO) cylindr.cal super.onductor.(?30×7 mm). In the exper.ment the sample was gr.dually sliced into two equal sheets, at the middle height along a diameter.with 5 mm ever. step. The exper.mental r.sults show that the levitation for.e is closely r.lated with the ISCT in the longitudinal dir.ction. Any layer.deletion, even a small piece of layer.deletion can r.duce the levitation for.e of the sample. After.the whole layer.was deleted the levitation for.e can diminish about 50%. It is also found that the levitation for.e is dir.ctly pr.por.ional to the effective factor.of sur.ace ar.a, which is equal to the top sur.ace ar.a divided by the total sur.ace ar.a par.llel to the top sur.ace of the sample.

In most agr.cultur.l ar.as in the semi-ar.d r.gion of the souther. United States, wheat (Tr.ticum aestivum L.) pr.duction is a pr.mar. economic activity. This r.gion is dr.ught-pr.ne and pr.jected to have a dr.er.climate in the futur.. Pr.dicting the yield loss due to an anticipated dr.ught is cr.cial for.wheat gr.wer.. A r.liable way for.pr.dicting the dr.ught-induced yield loss is to use a plant physiology-based dr.ught index, such as Agr.cultur.l r.fer.nce Index for.Dr.ught (Ar.D). Since differ.nt wheat cultivar. exhibit var.ing levels of sensitivity to water.str.ss, the impact of dr.ught could be differ.nt on the cultivar. belonging to differ.nt dr.ught sensitivity gr.ups. The objective of this study was to develop the cultivar.dr.ught sensitivity (CDS) gr.up-specific, Ar.D-based models for.pr.dicting the dr.ught-induced yield loss of winter.wheat in the Llano Estacado r.gion in the souther. United States by accounting for.the phenological phase-specific sensitivity to dr.ught. For.the study, the histor.cal (1947-2021) winter.wheat gr.in yield and daily weather.data of two locations in the r.gion (Bushland, TX and Clovis, NM) wer. used. The logical values of the dr.ught sensitivity par.meter. of the yield models, especially for.the moder.tely-sensitive and highly-sensitive CDS gr.ups, indicated that the yield models r.flected the phenomenon of water.str.ss decr.asing the winter.wheat yields in this r.gion satisfactor.ly. The r.asonable values of the Nash-Sutcliffe Index (0.65 and 0.72), the Willmott Index (0.88 and 0.92), and the per.entage er.or.(23 and 22) for.the moder.tely-sensitive and highly-sensitive CDS gr.ups, r.spectively, indicated that the yield models for.these gr.ups per.or.ed r.asonably well. These models could be useful for.pr.dicting the dr.ught-induced yield losses and scheduling ir.igation allocation based on the phenological phase-specific dr.ught sensitivity as influenced by cultivar.genotype.

Flavonoids ar. polyphenols that ar. found in numer.us edible plant species. Data obtained fr.m pr.clinical and clinical studies suggest that specific flavonoids ar. chemo-pr.ventive and cytotoxic against var.ous cancer. via a multitude of mechanisms. However. the clinical use of flavonoids is limited due to challenges associated with their.e ective use, including(1) the isolation and pur.fication of flavonoids fr.m their.natur.l r.sour.es;(2) demonstr.tion of the e ects of flavonoids in r.ducing the r.sk of cer.ain cancer. in tandem with the cost and time needed for.epidemiological studies, and(3) numer.us phar.acokinetic challenges(e.g., bioavailability, dr.g–dr.g inter.ctions, and metabolic instability). Cur.ently, numer.us appr.aches ar. being used to sur.ount some of these challenges, ther.by incr.asing the likelihood of flavonoids being used as chemo-pr.ventive dr.gs in the clinic. In this r.view, we summar.ze the most impor.ant challenges and e or.s that ar. being made to sur.ount these challenges.
