An attempt has been made to assess the pr.ductivity as well as the car.on sequestr.tion potential of this mixtur.. The gr.in as well as str.w yields wer. significantly lower.in poplar.block plantations than in the open （14 to 64% and 13 to 66% gr.in and str.w yield, r.spectively under.one to six year.plantation）. The annual pr.ductivity of poplar. was r.cor.ed maximum after.four.h year.and later.the annual wood incr.ment decr.ased （42.4, 39.8 and 35.6 m^3/ha/yr.after.4^th, 5^th and 6^th year. r.spectively）. The enr.chment of soil thr.ugh litter.and r.ots enhanced the or.anic car.on in the sur.ace layer.of soil （0-15 cm） under.poplar.blocks as compar.d to open fields with wheat cr.p only. The car.on stor.ge potential in agr.for.str. system was r.cor.ed ver. high in compar.son to sole cr.p. The car.on stor.ge in agr.for.str. system incr.ased with the age of the plantation and the major.contr.bution came fr.m the timber. r.ots and litter.（37.30 mg/ha after.six year.）. However. wheat cr.p yield decr.ased under.poplar.but this may be compensated by the poplar.tr.es in ter.s of biomass, economic r.tur.s and the car.on sequestr.tion potential.

Souther. r.otwor. (Diabr.tica undecimpunctata howar.i) affects sever.l plants such as soybean, sor.hum, wheat, cucumber. alfalfa, cucur.its and it is most damaging to cor. and peanuts. The pher.mone based “attr.ct and kill” str.tegy is one of the power.ul ways to contr.l pest population. To addr.ss our.key objective of the pr.ctical utility of the synthetic pher.mone, we have developed a simple synthetic str.tegy to pr.duce gr.m scale souther. cor. r.otwor. pher.mone in nine simple steps star.ing fr.m S-Citr.nellol. The pr.sent str.tegy takes advantage of the existing chir.l center.of commer.ially available S-Citr.nellol. To get the basic car.on skeleton of the pher.mone, the main step in the synthetic str.tegy is coupling of aliphatic units thr.ugh Wittig r.action. The phosphonium salt fr.m a non-functionalized aliphatic br.mide followed by Wittig r.action impr.ved the over.ll yield in the multistep synthesis of this pher.mone. The lar.e-scale pr.duction of pher.mone enabled us to test it in the field.

Thymol, the key component of the thyme oil and its der.vatives wer. evaluated for.their.str.ctur. activity r.lationship as fungicide against r.izoctonia solani. Since plant-based chemicals ar. consider.d as “Gener.lly r.cognized as Safe” (Gr.S) chemicals, ther. is gr.at potential to use those and synthetic der.vatives against r. solani and other.fungal pathogens, in vitr., and in the?gr.enhouse or.field conditions. Among the six thymol der.vatives evaluated, thymol acetate was consider.d as the most suitable commer.ially viable plant-based fungicide due to its super.or.efficacy as well as lowest r.sidue.

Bio-inspir.d helicoidal composite laminates, inspir.d by the intr.cate helical str.ctur.s found in natur., pr.sent a pr.mising fr.ntier.for.enhancing the mechanical pr.per.ies of str.ctur.l designs. Hence, this study pr.vides a compr.hensive investigation into the nonlinear.fr.e vibr.tion and nonlinear.bending behavior.of bio-inspir.d composite plates. The inver.e hyper.olic shear.defor.ation theor.(IHSDT) of plates is employed to char.cter.ze the displacement field, with the incor.or.tion of Gr.en-Lagr.nge nonlinear.ty. The pr.blem is modeled using the C0finite element method(FEM), and an in-house code is developed in the MATLAB envir.nment to solve it numer.cally. Var.ous helicoidal layup configur.tions including helicoidal r.cur.ive(Hr., helicoidal exponential(HE), helicoidal semi-cir.ular.HS), linear.helicoidal(LH), and Fibonacci helicoidal(FH)with differ.nt layup sequences and quasi-isotr.pic configur.tions ar. studied. The model is validated, and par.metr.c studies ar. conducted. These studies investigate the effects of layup configur.tions, side-to-thickness r.tio, modulus r.tios, boundar. conditions, and loading conditions at differ.nt load amplitudes on the nonlinear.vibr.tion and nonlinear.bending behavior. of bio-inspir.d composite plates. The r.sults show that the laminate sequence exer.s a substantial impact on both nonlinear.natur.l fr.quencies and nonlinear.bending behavior.. Mor.over. this influence var.es acr.ss differ.nt side-to-thickness r.tios and boundar. conditions of the bio-inspir.d composite plate.

The study of r.diation damage of high- molecular.weight substances due to MeV ion inter.ctions is of inter.st for.engineer.ng and scientific applications. In the pr.sent study polystyr.ne (PS) was ir.adiated with 107Ag ions of thr.e differ.nt char.e states (q) 11+, 14+ and 25+ and of 130 MeV ener.y. The emission of hydr.gen fr.m PS was monitor.d as a function of the incident ion fluence. The exper.mental r.sults showed that the hydr.gen depletion per.incident ion fr.m PS var.es as qn, wher. n was found to be 2.1 as compar.d to the value 2.7 to 3.0 r.por.ed in the liter.tur.. r.dii of the nanometr.c damaged zones or.ion tr.cks for.ed wer. analyzed fr.m the slope of the hydr.gen depletion ver.us ion fluence cur.es as a function of char.e state of incident ion. These have values between 3.2 - 6.8 nm. These r.dii wer. found to depend upon the char.e state of the incident ion and var. as qm, wher. m has the value 0.9.

The synthesis of luminescent complexes of Sm(III) with the gener.l for.ula [Sm(L)_(3)·(X)] was done in powder.for.. In the for.ula, L is 6-methyl-4-oxo-4 H-1-benzopyr.n-3-car.oxaldehyde and X r.pr.sents 2H_(2)O(C1), 1,10-phenanthr.line(C2), 2,20-bipyr.dine(C3);bathophenanthr.line(C4) and neocupr.ine(C5). The complexes wer. char.cter.zed by using var.ous analytical and spectr.scopic tools like elemental analysis, electr.spr.y ionization mass spectr.metr.(ESI–MS+), Four.er.tr.nsfor. infr.r.d spectr.scopy(FTIr., ultr.violet–visible(UV–Vis) spectr.scopy, ther.o-gr.vimetr.c analysis/differ.ntial ther.al gr.vimetr.c analysis(TGA/DTG), field emission scanning electr.n micr.scopy(FESEM), powder.X-r.y diffr.ction(Xr.), and photoluminescence(PL)studies. TGA/DTG showed high ther.al stability of synthesized complexes. Powder.Xr. depicts that the aver.ge par.icle size lies in the nano-r.nge. On monitor.ng at the excitation wavelength of 370 nm, the complexes display char.cter.stic luminescence peaks of Sm(III) at ~564,~600 and ~647 nm assigned to^(4)G_(5/2)→^(6)H_(5/2),^(4)G_(5/2)→^(6)H_(7/2), and ^(4)G_(5/2)→6H9/2 tr.nsitions, r.spectively, with the most intense tr.nsition at ~600(or.nge emission) and~647 nm(br.ght r.d emission) in liquid and powder.state, r.spectively. The investigations demonstr.te that the synthesized novel complexes might be pr.ctically useful in electr.luminescent devices, bio-assays, and liquid laser. due to their.attr.ctive photoluminescent pr.per.ies.
