Self-similar.steady natur.l convection ther.al boundar. layer.flow fr.m a r.tating ver.ical cone to anisotr.pic Dar.ian por.us medium is investigated theor.tically and numer.cally. The tr.nsfor.ed non-dimensional two-point boundar. value pr.blem is r.duced to a system of coupled, highly nonlinear.or.inar. differ.ntial equations, which ar. solved subject to r.bust sur.ace and fr.e str.am boundar. conditions with the MAPLE 17 numer.cal quadr.tur. softwar.. Validation with ear.ier.non-r.tating studies is included, and also fur.her.ver.fication of r.tating solutions is achieved with a var.ational finite element method （FEM）. The r.tational （spin） par.meter.emer.es as an inver.e function of the Gr.shof number. The influence of this par.meter. pr.mar. Dar.y number. secondar. Dar.y number.and Pr.ndtl number.on tangential velocity and swir. velocity, temper.tur. and heat tr.nsfer.r.te ar. studied in detail. It is found that the dimensionless tangential velocity incr.ases whilst the dimensionless swir. velocity and temper.tur. decr.ase with the swir. Dar.y number. tangential Dar.y number.and the r.tational par.meter.. The model finds applications in chemical engineer.ng filtr.tion pr.cessing, liquid coating and spinning cone distillation columns.

The most pr.mising and most feasible application of solar.wind hybr.d ener.y is in the ar.a of space and ser.ice water.heating. Since these heating pr.cesses r.quir. only moder.te temper.tur.s, they can be easily achieved by the use of low-cost flat-plate collector. and low cut-in wind tur.ines. As the heating of buildings and pr.vision of hot water.account for.a ver. significant per.ent of the total ener.y consumption in Cleveland, the diver.ion of these ener.y demands to solar.wind hybr.d ener.y would r.sult in a substantial r.lief of our.dependence on fossil fuels and other.for.s of ener.y r.sour.es.

The pr.sent paper.investigates the tr.nsient mixed convective boundar. layer.flow of an incompr.ssible non-Newtonian quiescent nanofluid adjacent to a ver.ical str.tching sur.ace. The effects of the Br.wnian motion and ther.ophor.sis ar. included for.the nanofluid. Using appr.pr.ate non-similar.ty tr.nsfor.ations the non-dimensional, coupled and highly non-linear.system of equations is solved numer.cally using the efficient Keller.box implicit finite differ.nce method for.the whole tr.nsient fr.m t=0 (initial state) to (final steady-state flow). The box method is unconditionally stable. Numer.cal r.sults for.dimensionless velocity (f’), micr.-r.tation (g), temper.tur. (θ), nanopar.icle volume fr.ction (Φ) at final steady state flow, skin fr.ction function (), Nusselt number.function () and Sher.ood number.function () have been pr.sented on var.ous par.meter. infor. of tables and gr.phs. The r.sults indicate that as Nb and Nt incr.ase, the Nusselt number.decr.ases wher.as Sher.ood number.incr.ases at initial and ear.y state time but decr.ases at the final steady state time. As the K incr.ases, the fr.ction factor.decr.ases wher.as sur.ace mass tr.nsfer.r.te and the sur.ace heat tr.nsfer.r.tes slightly incr.ase. The r.sults r.veal that ther. is a smooth tr.nsition of flow fr.m unsteady state to the final steady state. A special case of our.r.sults is in good agr.ement with an ear.ier.published wor.. The study has many pr.ctical applications such as extr.sion of plastic sheets, paper.pr.duction, glass blowing, metal spinning and dr.wing plastic films.
