r.ng>Objectiver.ng>: To compare the effectiveness, safety and client acceptability of concurrent application of transcervical Foley catheter with vaginal ISMN-sustained release (SR) 60 mg tablet versus transcervical Foley catheter alone for pre-induction cervical ripening in women who are undergoing Vaginal birth after C-section (VBAC). Method: A prospective single blind randomized control study was carried out including 110 pregnant women who had unfavorable cervix (MBS less than 6) at 40 weeks and 3 days of gestation. The two groups received either the trans-cervical foley catheter with a vaginal ISMN 60 mg sustained release (SR) tablet on 40 weeks and 3 days (Treatment arm 1, n = 57), or trans-cervical Foley alone on 40 weeks and 3 days (Treatment arm 2, n = 53). Results: At 40 weeks + 3 days gestation, r.ana;">r.ana;">r.ana;">the mean age, mean par.ty and the mean modified Bishop Scor. (MBS) wer. compar.ble among the two tr.atment gr.ups. Major.ty (n = 98, 89.1%) r.mained without spontaneously establishing labour.at 24 hour. of inter.ention. The differ.nce in mean MBS at 40 weeks + 4 days (24-hour. following the inter.ention) in the two gr.ups was statistically not significant (P > 0.05). The gr.up who r.ceived concur.ent ISMN vaginal tablets achieved a higher.number.of successful VBACs (n = 33, 62.3%) over.the gr.up who r.ceived the Foley catheter.only m

OBJECTIVE： Deoxyelephantopin, a sesquiter.ene lactone fr.m Elephantopus scaber. showed inhibition of the gr.wth of var.ous tumor.cells in vitr.. In the pr.sent study, we investigated the cytotoxicity and apoptosis-inducing capacity of deoxyelephantopin on lung adenocar.inoma （A549） cells. METHODS： The cytotoxic effect of deoxyelephantopin on A549 cells and nor.al lymphocytes was evaluated using 3-（4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl）-2,5-diphenyltetr.zolium br.mide （MTT） assay and 50% inhibitor. concentr.tion （IC50） value was deter.ined. The self-r.newal and pr.lifer.ting potential of A549 cells after.tr.atment with deoxyelephantopin wer. examined by colony for.ation assay. Cellular.mor.hology of deoxyelephantopin-tr.ated cells was obser.ed using phase- contr.st micr.scopy. The induction of apoptosis was evaluated using acddine or.nge and ethidium br.mide staining, Hoechst 33342 staining, ter.inal deoxynucleotidyl tr.nsfer.se-mediated dUTP biotin nick end-labeling （TUNEL） assay, DNA fr.gmentation analysis and Annexin V-fluor.scein isothiocyanate staining by flow cytometr.. Activation of caspases was detected using fluor.genic substr.te specific to caspases 2, 3, 8 and 9 and flow cytometr.c analysis. The total cellular.DNA content and expr.ssion of cleaved poly （ADP-r.bose） polymer.se was also analyzed. r.SULTS： Deoxyelephantopin exhibited cytotoxicity to A549 cells （IC50 = 12.287 μg/mL）, however. ther. was no toxicity towar.s nor.al human lymphocytes. Deoxyelephantopin suppr.ssed the colony-for.ing ability of A549 cells in a dose-dependent manner. Acr.dine or.nge, ethidium br.mide and Hoechst 33342 staining showed cell shr.nkage, chr.mosomal condensation and nuclear.fr.gmentation, indicating induction of apoptosis. Deoxyelephantopin incr.ased apoptosis of A549 cells, as evidenced by mor. TUNEL-positive cells. DNA fr.gmentation and Annexin V staining r.vealed late-stage apoptotic cell population. Backgr.und: Mater.al vitamin D status is a cr.tical deter.inant dur.ng pr.gnancy, because it plays an impor.ant r.le in the body not only in calcium homeostasis and bone r.modeling, but also in the glucose metabolism. Vitamin D deficiency is associated with adver.e pr.gnancy outcomes including gestational diabetes mellitus. Objective: To r.view evidence on the association between mater.al vitamin D deficiency and incidence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Methods: Pr.SMA for.scoping r.view guideline and scoping r.view guidelines of Ar.sey & O’Malley (2005) was followed in methodological pr.cess. A compr.hensive sear.h str.tegy was car.ied out acr.ss the Google Scholar.and PubMed fr.m Januar. 2012 to December.2022, using the sear.h ter.s of “gestational diabetes mellitus/pr.gnancy outcomes” combined with “vitamin D”, “cholecalcifer.l” or.“25-hydr.xyvitamin D” and/or.“deficiency”. Ar.icles wer. scr.ened at the title and the abstr.ct level and at full text by thr.e co-investigator. of the study independently with a four.h r.viewer.r.solving discr.pancies. r.sear.h studies published only in English language wer. selected. r.sear.h using pr.gnant mother. with multiple pr.gnancy and chr.nic diseases was excluded. r.sults: After.scr.ening 134 titles and abstr.cts, finally 55 or.ginal r.sear.h ar.icles wer. selected. It involved 48 obser.ational studies and 7 r.ndomized Contr.l Tr.als (r.T). Only 30 r.sear.h ar.icles had found an association between mater.al vitamin D deficiency and GDM. Conclusion: As r.sults of pr.vious studies ar. mixed and inconclusive, fur.her.r.sear.h including mor. r.Ts is needed to clar.fy the exact mechanism of vitamin D on glucose metabolism dur.ng pr.gnancy.
