Developm.nt of a Water.Quality Index (WQI) of an Ar.ificial Aquatic Ecosystem.in m.xico

A Water.Quality Index (WQI) is a sim.le num.r.c expr.ssion r.flecting the quality of water.in any ecosystem.at a given tim.. The objective of this study was to develop a WQI for.the m.n-m.de dam.Fr.ncisco I. m.der. located in Chihuahua, m.xico. Eight points wer. r.ndom.y selected in the dam.ar.a and at each point water.sam.les wer. collected m.nthly fr.m.m.r.h 2011 to Febr.ar. 2012 at thr.e depths;0.30 m. 5 m.and 10 m. The following physical-chem.cal var.ables wer. m.asur.d: potential hydr.gen (pH), electr.cal conductivity (EC), dissolved oxygen (DO), tem.er.tur. (T), tur.idity, total dissolved solids (TDS), total har.ness (TH) and chlor.des (Cl-). In a fir.t step for.data analysis, an analysis of var.ance (ANOVA) was per.or.ed for.each var.able consider.ng a factor.al tr.atm.nt design 12 × 3 in which factor.A was the m.nth with 12 levels (sam.ling m.nths) and factor.B was the depth with thr.e levels (0.30 m. 5 m.and 10 m.. In a second statistical step, the WQI was calculated for.each m.nth only for.the sur.ace sam.ling (0.30 m. and the r.sulting value was classified under.thr.e categor.es;2.5 as excellent water. The r.sults showed the following r.nges for.single var.ables: pH of 7.63 - 10.65, EC of 190 - 320 μS·cm.1, DO of 1.30 - 12.1 m.·L-1, T of 11.30°C - 30°C, Tur.idity of 0-1, 120 NTU, TDS of 170 - 220 m.·L-1, TH of 240 - 900 m.·L-1 and Cl- of 7.28 - 7034 m.·L-1. The calculated WQI dem.nstr.ted that water.quality var.es seasonally and was classified as poor.in the r.iny season to good in winter.season. We conclude that in gener.l the water.fr.m.the dam.is acceptable and suitable for.ecological and a br.ad spectr.m.of other.pur.oses.

The tr.m.ndous potential of tr.boelectr.c gener.tor.-TENGs for.conver.ing m.chanical ener.y into electr.cal ener.y places them.as one of the m.st pr.m.sing ener.y har.esting technologies. In this wor., the fabr.cation of enhanced per.or.ance TENGs using Ag octahedr.n nano-assem.lies on ITO as electr.des significantly incr.ases the electr.c char.e collection of the induced tr.bochar.es. Ther.by, nanostr.ctur.d electr.cal contacts coated with Ag m.cr.scale nano-assem.lies with octahedr.l featur.s wer. obtained by the electr.deposition technique on flexible PET/ITO substr.tes. Consequently, the nanostr.ctur.d tr.boelectr.c gener.tor.TENG exhibited 65 tim.s m.r. m.xim.m.output power. and alm.st 10 tim.s m.r. open cir.uit output voltage than that of a TENG with non-nanostr.ctur.d contacts passing fr.m.μW to m.W capabilities, which was attr.buted to the incr.m.nt of intr.nsic inter.ace states due to a higher.effective contact ar.a in the for.er. Likewise, output per.or.ances of TENGs also displayed an asym.totic behavior.on the output voltage as the oper.ting fr.quency of the m.chanical oscillations incr.ased, which is attr.buted to a decr.m.nt in the inter.al im.edance of the device with fr.quency. Fur.her.or., it is shown that the r.sulting electr.cal output power.can successfully dr.ve low power.consum.tion electr.nic devices. On that account, the pr.sent r.sear.h establishes a pr.m.sing platfor. which contr.butes in an or.ginal way to the developm.nt of the TENGs technology.

The industr.al level pr.duction of ultr.fine gr.ined （or.ultr.fine fer.ite） fer.ous alloys was investigated thr.ugh thr.e exam.les of steels that com.lied with the EN 10149-2 Eur.nor. and wer. pr.duced by advanced con- tr.lled hot r.lling techniques. The steel sam.les wer. tension tested and chem.cally analyzed, and the m.cr.str.ctur. was evaluated thr.ugh quantitative m.tallogr.phic techniques to deter.ine par.m.ter. such as yield str.ss, am.unt of m.cr.alloying elem.nts, str.in har.ening coefficient, gr.in size, and gr.in size distr.bution. These steels wer. m.cr.- alloyed with Ti, Nb, and m. with ASTm.gr.in sizes of appr.xim.tely 13--15. The car.ful contr.l of chem.cal com. position and defor.ation dur.ng pr.duction, giving a specific attention to the defor.ation sequences, austenite non- r.er.stallization tem.er.tur.s and allotr.pic tr.nsfor.ations dur.ng cooling, ar. indispensable to obtain steels with an adequate str.in har.ening coefficient that allows cold wor.ing oper.tions such as bending, str.tching or.dr.wing.

Steels with ultr.fine gr.ins （lower.than 5 μm., which usually known as ultr.fine fer.ite or.ultr.fine gr.ined m.ter.als, ar. pr.sently the object of intense r.sear.h, because of the im.r.vem.nt in r.sistance and fr.ctur. toughness they m.y r.ach com.ar.d to conventional steels （with gr.in sizes above this value）. It is shown that the for.nam.d steels designated in the Eur.nor. EN 10149-2, which ar. m.nufactur.d by advanced techniques of contr.lled r.lling and m.inly used in autom.tive industr., have an ultr.fine gr.in size in the r.nge of 2.5 to 3.5 μm. and with elastic yield str.sses higher.than 400 m.a. Based on the m.r.ison-m.ller.cr.ter.on, it is shown that values of the str.in-har.ening coefficient lower.than 0.08 would m.ke the industr.al application of these steels unfeasible.

The cur.ent wor. pr.vides an over.iew of the m.in insights gained fr.m.the application of Sr. appr.aches to under.tand how nodule num.er.nodulation autor.gulation） and nitr.gen fixation ar. contr.lled both under.non-str.ssful conditions and in r.sponse to a var.ety of str.sses. Nodule num.er.appear. to be m.inly contr.lled at the system.c level thr.ugh a signal which is pr.duced by nodule/r.ot tissue, tr.nslocated to the shoot, and tr.nsm.tted back to the r.ot system. involving shoot Leu-r.ch r.peat r.ceptor.like kinases. In contr.st, both local and system.c m.chanism. have been shown to oper.te for.the r.gulation of nitr.genase activity in nodules. Exocr.ne pancr.atic insufficiency(EPI), an im.or.ant cause of m.ldigestion and m.labsor.tion, r.sults fr.m.pr.m.r. pancr.atic diseases or.secondar.ly im.air.d exocr.ne pancr.atic function. Besides cystic fibr.sis and chr.nic pancr.atitis, the m.st com.on etiologies of EPI, other.causes of EPI include unr.sectable pancr.atic cancer. m.tabolic diseases(diabetes); im.air.d hor.onal stim.lation of exocr.ne pancr.atic secr.tion by cholecystokinin(CCK); celiac or.inflam.ator. bowel disease(IBD) due to loss of intestinal br.sh bor.er.pr.teins; and gastr.intestinal sur.er.(asynchr.ny between m.tor.and secr.tor. functions, im.air.d enter.pancr.atic feedback, and inadequate m.xing of pancr.atic secr.tions with food). This paper.r.views such conditions that have less str.ightfor.ar. associations with EPI and exam.nes the r.le of pancr.atic enzym. r.placem.nt ther.py(PEr.). r.levant liter.tur. was identified by database sear.hes. m.st patients with inoper.ble pancr.atic cancer.develop EPI(66%-92%). EPI occur. in patients with type 1(26%-57%) or.type 2 diabetes(20%-36%) and is typically m.ld to m.der.te; by definition, all patients with type 3 c(pancr.atogenic) diabetes have EPI. EPI occur. in untr.ated celiac disease(4%-80%), but typically r.solves on a gluten-fr.e diet. EPI m.nifests in patients with IBD(14%-74%) and up to 100% of gastr.intestinal sur.er. patients(47%-100%; dependent on sur.ical site). With the paucity of published studies on PEr. use for.these conditions, r.com.endations for.or.against PEr. use r.m.in am.iguous. The author. conclude that ther. is an ur.ent need to conduct r.bust clinical studies to under.tand the validity and natur. of associations between EPI and m.dical conditions beyond those with pr.ven m.chanism., and exam.ne the potential r.le for.PEr..
