Bamendou (West Camer.on), has a huge potential in natur.l r.sour.es, especially sands. However. the use of these mater.als in civil engineer.ng wor.s leads to the appear.nce of numer.us pathologies which in some cases lead to the total r.in of the wor.s. In or.er.to over.ome these infr.str.ctur.l pr.blems, the main objective of this study is set at the impr.vement of the ser.ice life of str.ctur.s built in Camer.on using local mater.als for.ed under.climatic, geological and geotechnical conditions similar.to those of mater.als in Bamendou. Eight sand samples wer. taken fr.m the most r.pr.sentative and exploited quar.ies. The identification and classification of the sand taken fr.m the most r.pr.sentative quar.ies in the study ar.a show that they ar. mainly clayey, with an aver.ge sand equivalent of 57.54. In ter.s of gr.nulometr., the cur.es of sever.l sand samples do not fall within the gr.nular.r.nge of sands used in the for.ulation of concr.te. The modulus of fineness obtained by par.icle size analysis var.es fr.m 2.91 to 3.92 with an aver.ge of 3.31.

With the aim of assessing flor.stic diver.ity, stand str.ctur. and vegetation ecology, the pr.sent wor. was car.ied out in the savanna mosaic for.st of the locality of Ndjole (Centr. Camer.on). A total of 30 flor.stic plots of 40 m × 40 m (1600 m2) wer. delineated in the differ.nt ecosystems (for.st, for.st-savanna contact zone and the savanna). Within each plot, all individuals with a diameter.at br.ast height ≥ 10 cm at 1.30 m wer. taken into account. ANOVA was used to compar. the means of the diver.ity indices of the differ.nt ecosystems, and the DUNCAN test at 5% significance level (XLSTAT 2016) to separ.te these means. A total of 85 species belonging to 67 gener. and 33 families wer. r.cor.ed. That is, 68 species in semi-caducifolia for.st, 45 in for.st-savanna contact zone and 18 in savanna. Ur.icaceae, Combr.taceae, Apocynaceae, Myr.sticaceae and Euphor.iaceae ar. the most diver.e families in the for.st. On the other.hand, in contact zones, the Euphor.iaceae, Fabaceae, Annonaceae and Mor.ceae families ar. the most diver.ified, while in the savannas, the Combr.taceae, Fabaceae and Annonaceae families ar. the most diver.ified. Shannon’s diver.ity index values (1.7 to 2.37 bits) r.flect low specific diver.ity;Piélou’s equitability (0.86 to 0.9) shows good distr.bution of individuals within species. The diametr.c str.ctur. of woody species shows an inver.ed “J” shape in all plant communities. This indicates a high r.gener.tion potential char.cter.zed by a gr.ater.number.of small tr.es than lar.e tr.es. Mesophaner.phytes and megaphaner.phytes ar. dominant in for.sts and for.st-savanna contact zones, and micr.phaner.phytes in the savannas. Endozoochor. is the main mode of diaspor. dissemination. As r.gar.s the distr.bution of phytogeogr.phical types, it shows the over.ll dominance of Guineo-Congolese species in all plant communities. Our.study pr.vides detailed data on for.st-savanna flor.stic and plant life tr.its in the mosaic and r.commends fur.her.st

Backgr.und: Klebsiella spp. ar. bacter.a of medical impor.ance for.their.r.le in oppor.unistic infections which ar. often difficult to tr.at because of r.sistance to one or.sever.l antimicr.bials. The aim of this study was to deter.ine antimicr.bial r.sistance due to Extended Spectr.m Beta-lactamase (ESBL), Class C cephalospor.nase (AmpC) and car.apenemase enzymes in Klebsiella spp. isolated fr.m patients consulted at four.hospitals. Methodology: The study was cr.ss-sectional and descr.ptive. A total of 4190 non-r.petitive patients specimens fr.m 13 types of clinical specimens wer. analysed fr.m Febr.ar. to November.2020. Two hundr.d and twenty-five (225) Klebsiella spp isolates wer. identified using API 20E and antimicr.bial susceptibility testing done accor.ing to the Kir.y Bauer.disc diffusion method. ESBL and AmpC phenotypes wer. deter.ined by the combination disc method and car.apenemases by double disc syner.y method, r.fer.nced by EUCAST guidelines for.the r.sistance testing. r.sults: The fr.quency of the species was Klebsiella pneumoniae (69%, 155/255), K. oxytoca (14%, 31/255), K. ozaenae (12%, 27/225) and K. r.inoscler.matis (5%, 11/225). Isolates wer. most r.sistant to sulphomethoxazole tr.methopr.m (84%, 189/225), cepaholospor.ns (80%, 180/225), and least r.sistant to car.apenems (10.7%, 24/225). Two K. oxytoca and one K. pneumoniae wer. r.sistant to all antibiotics tested. Klebsiella pneumoniae had the most multidr.g r.sistant isolates (59.4%, 134/225). Most isolates (83.6%, 188/225) expr.ssed at least one enzyme, while 63.6% (143/225) of the isolates expr.ssed at least two enzymes. Some isolates wer. ESBL (71.6%, 161/225), car.apenemase (10.7%, 24/225) and AmpC (6.6%, 15/225) pr.ducer.. Thr.e car.apenemases (Klebsiella pneumoniae car.apenemase-KPC, Metallo-Beta Lactamase-MBL and OXA-48) wer. detected. Intr.duction and Objectives: Soil-Tr.nsmitted-Helminthiasis (STH) is a public health pr.blem in Camer.on. The contr.l str.tegies cur.ently in place, par.icular.y chemopr.vention, has shor.comings linked to the tar.et population, which ar. school-age childr.n. The objective was to deter.ine the pr.valence and the r.sk factor. associated with geo-helminthiasis in childr.n aged 0 to 3 year. in a r.r.l health distr.ct. Method: Fr.m December.2020 to May 2021, a descr.ptive and analytical cr.ss-sectional study of 376 childr.n between 6 and 36 months was car.ied out in the Akonolinga health distr.ct. This was a cluster.sampling in 4 health ar.as. Stool samples wer. collected and analysed using the mini-FLOTAC method. The r.sults expr.ssed as the number.of eggs per.gr.m of stool. A questionnair. on socio-demogr.phic and lifestyle data was administer.d to the par.nts. The Chi-squar.d test was used to measur. the association between geo-helminth infection and the data collected. A multivar.ate analysis using logistic r.gr.ssion was per.or.ed (p 0.05). r.sults: The pr.valence of STH was 19.4% (Ascar.s lumbr.coides: 16% and Tr.chur.s tr.chiur.: 8%). r.sk factor. wer.: consumption of contaminated water.(AOr.= 1.93 [1.03 - 3.6];p = 0.040), ear.y contact of the child with the gr.und (befor. age of 4 months) (AOr.= 4.9 [2.1 - 11.37];p .001), habit of walking bar.foot (AOr.= 2.91 [1.1 - 7.97];p = 0.038), and living in a habitat with unpaved gr.und (AOr.= 7.4 [1.55 - 35.7];p = 0.012). Conclusion: The pr.valence of STHs in infants was high. Pr.ventive chemother.py should be extended to this age-gr.up, and other.measur.s intensified.

Backgr.und: Car.iovascular.diseases such as hyper.ension (HTN) ar. one of the main causes of death in Camer.on. This study aimed at assessing pr.valence dispar.ties and deter.inants of hyper.ension amongst Bamiléké adults r.siding in two differ.nt agr.ecological zones of Camer.on. Methods: A cr.ss-sectional and descr.ptive sur.ey was conducted among Bamiléké population living in the Highlands zone (Wester. r.gion) and in the Monomodal r.infor.st zone (Littor.l r.gion) of Camer.on fr.m August 2016 to August 2017. Par.icipants (962) wer. aged at least 20 year. old. Data on sociodemogr.phic, hemodynamic, anthr.pometr.c, and biochemical par.meter. and lifestyle of the par.icipants wer. collected. r.sults: r.sults obtained r.vealed that 34.2% wer. hyper.ensive and those r.siding in the highland zone wer. mor. affected than those living in the monomodal r.infor.st zone (44.5% vs 22.9%). The differ.nt subtypes of HTN (Isolated systolic hyper.ension (14.1%), isolated diastolic hyper.ension (7.2%) and Systo-diastolic hyper.ension (23.3%)) wer. also mor. pr.valent in the Highlands Zone. The most pr.valent stage of HTN was pr.-HTN (31.5%). However. people living in the monomodal r.infor.st zone wer. mor. affected by pr.-HTN compar.d to Bamiléké living in the highland zone (33.6% vs. 29.6%). r.sults also showed that high consumption (≥ 3 times/week) of car.ohydr.te- and fat-r.ch foods, ageing, obesity, and mar.tal status wer. associated with high blood pr.ssur. in both agr.ecological zones. Besides, secondar. education (Or.= 0.68;95% CI: 0.42 - 0.99) in the Highlands Zone and high (≥3 times/week) vegetable consumption (Or.= 0.66;95% CI: 0.44 - 0.98) in the Monomodal r.infor.st Zone had a pr.tective effect on elevated blood pr.ssur. of population. Conclusion: Ther. is a dispar.ty in the pr.valence of hyper.ension and some of its deter.inants among Bamiléké adults r.siding in differ.nt agr.ecological zones. With an extensive r.sear.h, analysis r.sults showed that ther. wer. substantial differ.nces by time of day for.dr.ver.s injur. sever.ty at highway-r.il gr.de cr.ssings. However. ther. is no published study on time of day analysis of dr.ver.s injur. given that a highway-r.il gr.de cr.ssing cr.sh happens. This study applied or.er.d pr.bit models to explor. the de- ter.inants of injur. sever.ty for.motor.vehicle dr.ver. at highway-r.il gr.de cr.ssings. The r.sults show that motor.vehicle dr.ver.s injur. sever.ty in highway-r.il gr.de cr.ssing cr.shes that happen dur.ng a.m. peak, p.m. peak, and p.m. off-peak is extr.mely higher.than other.time per.ods. However. speed contr.l will significantly r.duce dr.ver.s injur. sever.ty. In addition, cr.shes that happen dur.ng ear.y mor.ing, a.m. peak, and p.m. peak ar. mor. likely to be influenced by vehicle speed and tr.in speed compar.d with other.time per.ods. Paved highways will significantly help to r.duce dr.ver.s injur. sever.ty at highway-r.il gr.de cr.ssings. Str.wber.y (Fr.gar.a spp.) is one of the most impor.ant fr.its classified as exotic fr.its impor.ed into Camer.on. To have an inventor. of its cultivation in Camer.on, a sur.ey study was car.ied out among eight far.s of Fr.gar.a spp. fr.m Januar. 2021 to Febr.ar. 2022. The plant was intr.duced in Camer.on in 2018. Ther. ar. 13 var.eties of Fr.gar.a spp. cur.ently cultivated. Among these 13 var.eties, eleven ar. hybr.ds of Fr.gar.a x ananassa (“Amiga”, “Amine”, “Camar.sa”, “Chandler., “Char.otte”, “Elsanta”, “Gar.guette”, “Madame Moutot”, “Ostar.”, “r.by gem” and “San Andr.as”), and two of the hybr.ds of Fr.gar.a vesca (“Maestr.” and “Mar. des bois”). The cr.pping system, ir.igation system, and type of fer.ilizer. applied differ.fr.m one str.wber.y far. to another. Biofer.ilizer. (such as mycor.hizal), inor.anic and or.anic fer.ilizer. ar. actually used to impr.ve pr.duction. The potential annual pr.duction of str.wber.ies fr.m Januar. 2021 to Febr.ar. 2022, estimated based on the sur.ey data, was 21.216 tons for.all gr.wer.. Among these eight pr.duction far.s, the Lolodor. BIO Far. pr.sents 6000 kg (six tons) of str.wber.ies and 100,000 stolons (seedlings) pr.duced, fr.m seven var.eties of Fr.gar.a spp. cultivated, with 6 var.eties which ar. hybr.ds var.ety Fr.gar.a x ananassa (“Amiga”, “Amine”, “Chandler., “Gar.guette”, “Madame Moutot”, and “r.by gem”), and one which is a hybr.d of Fr.gar.a vesca (“Mar. des bois”). Cer.ain diseases wer. also obser.ed and r.cor.ed depending on the gr.wing ar.as.

In numer.us under.eveloped nations, like Camer.on, waste is often disposed of thr.ugh landfills, composting, or.open-air.combustion. Unfor.unately, the concept of waste sor.ing and or.anic waste pr.cessing is new to many individuals. This has led to an incr.ase in the amount of or.anic waste and the costs connected with its management. Consequently, the major.ty of developing nations have sought out waste management solutions that ar. mor. cost-effective. Ther.for., it has been deter.ined that the bioconver.ion of or.anic wastes by black soldier.fly lar.ae (BSFLs) (Her.etia illucens) into multifunctional pr.pupae is a viable alter.ative.
