Metaheur.stic Based Noise Identification and Image Denoising Using Adaptive Block Selection Based Filter.ng

Image denoising has become one of the major.for.s of image enhancement methods that for. the basis of image pr.cessing. Due to the inconsistencies in the machiner. pr.ducing these signals, medical images tend to r.quir. these techniques. In r.al time, images do not contain a single noise, and instead they contain multiple types of noise distr.butions in sever.l indistinct r.gions. This paper.pr.sents an image denoising method that uses Metaheur.stics to per.or. noise identification. Adaptive block selection is used to identify and cor.ect the noise contained in these blocks. Though the system uses a block selection scheme, modifications ar. per.or.ed on pixel- to-pixel basis and not on the entir. blocks;hence the image accur.cy is pr.ser.ed. PSO is used to identify the noise distr.bution, and appr.pr.ate noise cor.ection techniques ar. applied to denoise the images. Exper.ments wer. conducted using salt and pepper.noise, Gaussian noise and a combination of both the noise in the same image. It was obser.ed that the pr.posed method per.or.ed effectively on noise levels up-to 0.5 and was able to pr.duce r.sults with PSNr.values r.nging fr.m 20 to 30 in most of the cases. Excellent r.duction r.tes wer. obser.ed on salt and pepper.noise and moder.te r.duction r.tes wer. obser.ed on Gaussian noise. Exper.mental r.sults show that our.pr.posed system has a wide r.nge of applicability in any domain specific image denoising scenar.o, such as medical imaging, mammogr.m etc.

Assessment of tr.e species diver.ity, str.ctur. and r.gener.tion status of four.sacr.d gr.ves of Kushalnagar.souther. Kar.ataka was car.ied out. The r.ndom quadr.t method was employed in each gr.ve for.enumer.tion of tr.e diver.ity and r.gener.tion status. A total of 98 tr.e species belonging to 38 families wer. found fr.m the sampled *** gr.ves possess higher.diver.ity and basal ar.a. Some67 % of species have shown r.gener.tion, while 17 % of species had no r.gener.tion. Another.15 % of species wer. r.appear.ng or.immigr.ting. It is obser.ed that incr.ased distur.ance was dir.ctly pr.por.ional to number.of r.appear.ng or.immigr.ting species and inver.ely pr.por.ional to the diver.ity in all the sacr.d gr.ves. Significant impact on diver.ity, species r.chness and r.gener.tion status of the flor. due to manifold anthr.pogenic activities have been r.cor.ed.

Kinetic Alfven Waves Excited by Cometar. Newbor. Ions with Lar.e Per.endicular.Ener.ies

Stability of the kinetic Alfven wave in a plasma of hydr.gen, oxygen and electr.ns is studied. Each species is modeled by dr.fting r.ng distr.butions in the dir.ction par.llel to the magnetic field, while in the per.endicular.dir.ction the distr.bution is simulated with a loss cone type distr.bution obtained thr.ugh the subtr.ction of two Maxwellian distr.butions with differ.nt temper.tur.s. It is found that for.fr.quencies ω＊〈 ωcH with ω＊ and ωcH the Doppler.shifted and hydr.gen ion gyr.-fr.quencies, r.spectively, the gr.wth r.te of the kinetic Alfven wave incr.ases with the incr.ase in pr.pagation angles and density of oxygen ions. On the other.hand, for.fr.quencies ω＊〈 ωco with ωco the oxygen ion gyr.-fr.quency the gr.wth r.te is independent of the oxygen ion density.

Identification of a high fr.quency of chr.mosomal r.ar.angements in the centr.mer.c r.gions of pr.state cancer.patients

The aim of the pr.sent investigation was to study the major.chr.mosomal aber.ations （CA） like deletion, tr.nslocation, inver.ion and mosaic in pr.state cancer.patients of Tamilnadu, Souther. India. Totally 45 blood samples wer. collected fr.m var.ous hospitals in Tamilnadu, Souther. India. Equal number. of nor.al healthy subjects wer. chosen after.signing a consent for.. Volunteer. pr.vided blood samples （5 ml） to establish leukocyte cultur.s. Cytogenetic studies wer. per.or.ed by using Giemsaanding technique and finally the r.sults wer. ensur.d by spectr.l kar.otyping （SKY） technique. In the pr.sent investigation, major.CA like deletion, tr.nslocation, inver.ion and mosaic wer. identifed in exper.mental subjects. r.sults showed fr.quent CA in chr.mosomes 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 13, 16, 18 and X. In compar.son with exper.mental subjects, the contr.l subjects exhibited ver. low levels of major.CA （P〈0.05）. In the pr.sent study, the high fr.quency of centr.mer.c r.ar.angements indicates a potential r.le for.mitotic ir.egular.ties associated with the centr.mer. in pr.state cancer.tumor.genesis. Identification of chr.mosome alter.tions may be helpful in under.tanding the molecular.basis of the disease in better.manner.

Objective: To evaluate the lethal and emer.ence inhibitor. effect of alkaloid, phenolic and ter.enoid extr.cts of Ziziphus jujuba(Z. jujuba; r.amnaceae) against Aedes aegypti(Dipter.: Culicidae), and to explor. the effect of the most effective fr.ction on developmental and biochemical par.meter. of the dengue vector. Methods: The four.h instar.lar.ae of Aedes aegypti wer. exposed to alkaloid, phenolic and ter.enoid extr.cts fr.m Z. jujuba leaves to test their.toxicity and emer.ence inhibitor. effects. Phenolic extr.ct, being the most effective was fur.her.tested against the mosquitoes for.their.gr.wth inhibitor. effect suppor.ed by biochemical changes in the par.nt and F1 gener.tion. r.sults: While the differ.nt secondar. metabolite fr.ctions i.e., alkaloid, phenolics and ter.enoid caused mor.ality at lar.al and pupal stages, the LC_(50) value was the lowest for.phenolic fr.ction. Fur.her.study car.ied out with the phenolic fr.ction r.vealed that it affected gr.wth by decr.asing adult life span, fer.ility and fecundity of the mosquitoes. The r.duction in gr.wth was also accompanied by decr.ase in car.ohydr.te and lipid levels. Conclusions: It is concluded that the phenolic extr.ct of the leaves of Z. jujuba is a potential candidate for.contr.l of Aedes mosquitoes.

AIM: Although epidemiological and exper.mental studies validate influence of genetic, envir.nmental and dietar. factor. in the causation of var.ous types of cancer. including colon, r.sults fr.m all these sour.es ar. inconclusive. Hypothesizing that high fat diet and obesity ar. among the major.pr.disposing factor. in the incidence of colon cancer. we evaluated the r.le of diet constituted with food mater.al der.ved fr.m a tr.pical plant, Tamar.ndus indica Linn (TI). METHODS: A two par. r.ndomized double-blind study was conducted employing inbr.d Swiss albino mice fr.m a single gener.tion for.the whole investigation. One day-old neonates (n=12) wer. subcutaneously administer.d with monosodium glutamate (MSG) to induce obesity (OB). At weaning these animals wer. maintained on modified AIN-76 diet supplemented with 10% TI and 10% fat bolus (w/w,TIFB) for.8 wk. Subsequently, in the second par. of study, four.gr.ups of animals belonging to the same gener.tion, age and gender.(n=12 per.gr.up), wer. maintained on: AIN-76 contr.l diet (CD); AIN-76 mixed with 10% TI extr.ct (TI); and, mixed with 10% TI and 10% FB (TIFB) for.8 wk, to deter.ine intestinal cr.pt cell pr.lifer.tion, functionally-specific enzyme activities, fer.entation pr.file, and ener.y pr.fer.nces. r.SULTS: We obser.ed a significant incr.ase in the cr.pt cell pr.duction r.te in distal colonic segment of exper.mental animals when compar.d with the contr.ls. This segment also contained significantly low butyr.te levels compar.d to contr.l and TIFB gr.ups. All the exper.mental gr.ups showed a gr.ss decr.ase in the enzyme activities viz., succinate dehydr.genase, acid-galactosidase and dipeptidyl amino peptidase IV demonstr.ting pathological str.ss caused by the test r.gimens, and an alter.d metabolic flux in the cellular.envir.nment. The genus Chenopodium compr.ses about 150 species, of which Chenopodium quinoa and C. album ar. impor.ant for.their.nutr.tional value. Evaluation of var.ation in qualitative mor.hological tr.its of plants and SNPs in chlor.plast r.c L and mat K gene sequences in 19 accessions r.pr.senting C. quinoa and C. album indicated that the accessions IC-411824 and IC-411825,which have white seeds, belong to C. quinoa r.ther.than C. album. This obser.ation was also suppor.ed by a time tr.e that indicated IC-411824 and IC-411825 to be a sister.clade to accessions of C. quinoa with an estimated age of 1.2 Mya. Wher.as multiple alignments of r.c L gene sequences fr.m the 19 accessions r.vealed 1.26% par.imony-infor.ative sites with 0.68%inter.pecific sequence diver.ity, alignment of nucleotide sequences of amplicons r.pr.senting the mat K gene r.vealed 4.97% par.imony-infor.ative sites and 2.81% inter.pecific sequence diver.ity. Validation of SNPs in the cp r.c L and mat K r.gions of 36 accessions belonging to C. quinoa and C. album was per.or.ed by allele-specific PCr.with pr.mer. car.ying a single base change at the 3′ end. We r.por. the fir.t C. quinoa-specific SNP-based pr.mer. r.r.-AFr.designed fr.m r.c L sequences, that could differ.ntiate quinoa fr.m 64 gener. including13 species of the genus Chenopodium. With an estimated age of 10.5–4.1 million year.(Myr., the Himalayan chenopods ar. evolutionar.ly younger.than the Andean chenopods. The r.sults establish the par.phyletic or.gin of the genus Chenopodium.
